What multivitamin do you guys take, if any? Also, ideas for Halloween costumes? :p

I take the cheapest "complete" multivitamin I can get my hands on... so, Walgreens, Walmart, whatever store-brand. Most of them are extremely similar, so Centrum, and especially GNC, are really not worth the extra money, in my opinion. I think I'm using the Walgreens One-a-Day equivalent right now.

Also: Wolverine, Bane, any WF/WWE wrestler, or Danny Bonaduce/Carrot-top post-roids are all good choices.

I'm not swole enough for any of those guys, I'm afraid :p

About 5'9" 160lbs right now, got some muscle on me but not what I would consider "muscular" - also have a decent bit of body fat because I've bulked up from 140lbs.

I haven't been taking fish oil nor multivitamins at all so maybe it's time to start.

Edit: bought both, brand Swisse.

Every time I play basketball, I end up tweaking something. Today was my ankle and knee. Nothing serious but if this is how it feels to be injury prone, I now feel for professional athletes that are known for being injury prone. =/

I think I need to invest in some knee sleeves and better basketball shoes. Anyone know much about sleeves? I don't really know what the one with the hole does differently than the one without, or if I need a knee brace (right knee is getting bothersome, it aches when I drive).

What's the consensus on supermans for the lower back?

Some say it puts too much pressure on your spine and others say its a must.

I'm going to take up swimming like I said before

I'm not sure when I should take some protein, like from a Myoplex shake, during the workout though. Is it before I start swimming, during swimming, or after I swim? Even if I'm swimming for a good 2 ish hours?

I plan on supplementing the swimming with some weight training and bicycling. I can't do any walking/jogging/running based exercise until I get surgery on my toe.

Finally back at the gym after 2 months of not going due to vacation and a new girlfriend and holidays and my gym only being open at dumb hours. Forgot how terrible DOMS could be after squats. And i almost passed out halfway through my planned workout so that didnt go so well. I guess i should take one or two weeks of building up again before going like i did before my pause. :lol

Anyone got any interesting ways to cook brown rice, or flavours and sauces that go well? I can conjour up some good meals with potatos and lean meat, but can't think of anything that works with rice... (Low fat for leangains workout days!)

Why did you think it would be a good idea to go back full force after a 2 month layoff?

Whats the best protein powder I can buy on Amazon?

The kind that has the least amount of animal hair. Why are you guys taking pictures of your protein powder?

back feels a bit better today. Still a little tight and a bit weird, but not awful. Have to watch my diet now too with the week off. Can't depend on my daily hour of cardio to burn off the crap I normally eat. sucks.

Dude, it's just fucking whey.

Lol it's just protein powder

Fools and their money always quickly parted.

The supplement industry is brilliant.

Get of your god damn high horses. Why is everyone piling on a guy for buying a FLAVOR of protein?

Maybe you guys like guzzling down barely ingestible shit 1-3 times a day, I don't.

I wouldn't go to great lengths or pay much more than what I pay now for it ($40 for 4lbs) but who the fuck are you to tell him how much he should spend on the food he likes (yes it's a food as much as it is a supplement).

And for the record it's god damn delicious, I just ordered my 2nd tub.

We aren't "piling on him" and quit being so sensitive. The simple fact is that he was way too excited for nothing more than protein powder. He even paid more for shipping than the actual product to get it.

If anything we are trying to keep his head straight. There is this mentality around especially with new lifters that protein (and other supplements) are some kind of magic steroid. We've seen it in here before, you just got here, so you may not have seen "that" yet.

It's just protein. Now calm the hell down and get back to reading for your PT exam.

First time dead lifting in 2 months. Straining to finish the lift. Farted so loud I heard it thru my headphones.

I did that last night with a female behind me and the trainer I usually talk to while I'm there. When I finished he looked at me like "really dude!??!" I just smiled and said, I'm fucking tired.

lol

Well I apologize if that was the intent, just seemed like people were being harsh. And yes I know how it is, everyone wants a miracle pill that will make them instantly not fat or instantly ripped. Or instantly huge.

I didn't get the impression that Man was the type to fall for crap like that though. I think he knows it's "just protein" and just wants the flavor. Again I wouldn't pay that much, but I'm not gonna tell anyone else how to spend their money.

This thread can seem harsh at times, it's typically that way when we encounter stuff that's recurrent (and bad) in here. The way he was going on about it definitely made it seem that way to a few of us.

Anyway, not that big of a deal, if he wants to waste his money like that more power to him, so long as he knows it's just protein.

edit:

See.

To be fair, even if this wasn't the case he might say that to save face (not that that's what is happening). Not that it matters, this community exists to keep people straight, give information and give motivation. And that's what was going on.

In terms of protein powders, for people in the UK. Don't buy 1kg for £35 (in stores), go to myprotein online and get 5kg for £40. That will last you for ages.

Alright, I'm gonna make a BodyBuilding.com order later this week.

I think I'll get myself some whey, and perhaps creatine and BCAAs. Also, is fish oil available there?

Any recommendations? Was thinking Optimum Gold Standard for whey since people seem to like the flavors. Any recommended flavors? Not really sure what to go with for creatine and BCAAs. Apparently fish oil quality matters...so not quite sure what to do there either.

And yeah, I know creatine and BCAAs aren't really necessary, but I'll give them a shot.

Creatine is one of the best athletic supplements around. Nothing wrong with taking it, though I will contentiously add that loading isn't necessary (i.e. starting out by taking 20g for a few weeks instead of the daily 5g recommendation). People disagree on this point, including the ones selling it to you. Come to think of it, it might even be more valuable than protein supplements since most of that should be eaten though whole food sources to begin with.

And unless you're on a very specific intermittent fasting regimen, BCAA's really aren't necessary. Even then, as someone who has fasted for years I'd still rather break the fast with a 300 - 500 calorie meal two hours before my training than consume a bit of BCAA's before and after.

If your shopping list was whey, creatine, and fish oil I don't think many people would fault you for it. I don't have any specific recommendations other than getting the cheapest product of satisfactory quality.

I suggest beta-alanine as a nice preworkout supplement as it helps me squeeze out a few more reps. Along with taking creatine, you can really see some gains.

If you don't mind paying a little bit more, get the Trutein Cinnabun or Trutein Chocolate Peanut Butter.

Stuff is so amazing. I rather drink it than eat just about anything.

Edit: Wow they are totally sold out right now. Good thing I have 20 lbs.

www.getrippednutrition.com has better prices on almost everything than bodybuilding.com does anyway.

Also, pro-tip, never buy from bodybuilding.com without using a 10% off coupon code. Can usually find one on their forum.

Well I'm 6 weeks into my workouts and I guess it's time to look back a little bit at my beginner gains and see where I've come from. My bench has increased 25 pounds (115 lbs 4 times to 140 4 times), deadlift up 70 pounds (145 lbs 8 times to 215 5 times), and the other one I measure success on is not one that I know the name of.. I log it as a seated cable row, but it's a machine where I'm seated and pulling the weight in towards my sides. I've gone up 55 pounds in that (105 lbs 10 times to 160 7 times). I work out at my in-laws, and they have a lot, but no squat rack yet so I can't do those, unfortunately. My bench would have actually gone up more, most likely but I haven't had anyone to spot me for a few weeks and so I've been a bit more conservative (though I did have to dump weights once when I went for an extra rep).

I'm doing accessory work as well, but those are my main exercises that I'm measuring my gains by. I'm focusing more on sets in 3-5 range and when I can do something 6 or 7 times then I'm raising the weight, and so on.

So far I'm very pleased with my results and I'm looking foward to the future, though I know my beginner gains won't always be there and my results will slow down eventually.

Great job man, keep it up!

I'm enjoying these whey posts.

Flavors I like:

Chocolate Mint - Not very good in shake form, but great with oats and okay with baking.
Double Rich Chocolate - All around good flavor. Great to cook with it, okay in shakes.
Coffee - Personal favorite, can pretty much use it in anything. Makes a fantastic coffee creamer.
Vanilla - If you want to eat pancakes every day, get this one.

I mean really, it may just be whey, but I get to eat pancakes, waffles, muffins, cakes, brownies, blah blah blah whenever I feel like it. Makes sticking to macros so much easier and lowers that craving to cheat. For me at least.

No whey is not the main source of anything in my diet. But boy does it open a nice new world. Same for flax meal and low carb situations.

People who buy whey to make shakes don't even know. They don't even know!

Right, but obsessing about it and posting multiple pics of a fucking tub of protein is ridiculous. Reminds me of my coworker who spends 1.5 hours working on his biceps at the gym.

Dude posted like one pic. I don´t see the problem.

Anyway for me is always vanilla or flavorless. I do have some peanutbutter flavored casein coming just to mix things up a bit.
And when I take the flavorless stuff I don´t add anything (just water, of course). I give no fucks.

You take one about 15 -20 minutes before your workout then you take another 1-2 scoops throughout the day. I've certainly felt a difference and there is a lot of science and research done on the positive effects of beta-alanine. Check it out.

You take it every day. I'm not sure if there's much difference in when to take it but I generally try to take it with my first meal of the day and on workout days after the workout.

And gotta check out that beta alanine. They sell it everywhere here but haven't ever though anything of it. But if it helps it might be worth it.

Thanks. One more question I just thought of - is creatine something you can take daily forever (as long as you're working out) or do you ever get to a point where you need to lay off for a while? I obviously know nothing about it really.

To my knowledge you can take it pretty much indefinately. If I'm wrong somebody please correct me :p

Kroc Rows:
28 kg x 12 reps (+41 pts)
28 kg x 12 reps (+41 pts)
28 kg x 10 reps (+40 pts)
28 kg x 10 reps (+40 pts)
28 kg x 10 reps (+40 pts)
28 kg x 10 reps (+40 pts)

Is there a reason why you do so many sets of Kroc Rows? Really, what makes a Kroc Row, a Kroc Row, is high reps. I think Kroc himself usually just does one all-out, balls to the wall set. 20-30 reps.

Serious? I always thought ez curl bars are 25lb.

Yes, super seriously.

Generally, the run 15-18lbs. You would, as suggested, need a scale for an exact weight. Or, just grab a 15lb dumbbell and hold it with one hand and the bar with the other, at the top. You should be able to tell the difference.

Or, just round to 15. It's not like being a few pounds over/under kills anybody when you make regular progression.

It doesn't matter when you take Creatine. Yes you can take it daily, no need to cycle off.

Correct, no loading/cycling needed and you can take indefinitely, at least according to recent understanding and some research. Contrary to what supplement companies want you to believe.
