I used to love my FU tshirt. It had a chalk looking capital F U on the front and on the back it said fired up. I lost it :(

They don't sell them anymore

Yeah, they seem to cycle shit out over the seasons.

Also, they aren't just "marketing" these belts. They actually use them, and as much as it seems I'm on Tate's nuts, he usually seems pretty to the point and honest and he's said several times this is the best belt he's ever used.

They seem to do a lot of testing for the shit they go to sell in their own gym. That's why I like their shit a lot. They don't just slap shit together to sell it to make a quick buck, it's shit they use.

Here's a couple of them using them during the LTT seminar. (the tan belts if you don't see them right off).

Just saw a 11-13 year old kid deadlift 225 at my gym. As seen by my form check video, I'm no expert but the kid will be in a ton of pain the next few weeks. He was actually kicking with one leg for the entire 30 seconds it took him to get it up.

I nearly went over to be that guy, but I realized his father was right there smiling as his kid is holding his lower back. I walked away.

Yeah, I do the same, or I get a size up in "relaxed" (559s).

That was probably the first time he's done Deadlifts too. He's been coming with his dad for the past two-three months and has just walked around and watched his dad. I think today was his first lifting day. He did three sets of Deadlifts (125, 195, 225) and calf raises.

So my husband and roommate are trying to convince me to go to a local gym called Bay Area Boxing. It has cardio kickboxing classes along with Muy Thai/Ju Juitsu/whatever stuff. Problem is, it's $80 a month and I already have a 24 Hour Fitness membership from Costco I bought less than a year ago. I'm not too motivated to go to 24 H Fitness, but they both say that the other gym would be better, simply because there are people there to help motivate and help me.

Thoughts?

Any place worth a shit will allow you to try them out before you sign anything, so just show up and see if you like it.

Also, ultimately the motivation has to come from within you. Having people around you exert peer pressure on you can work for awhile, but if you never find that spark you are just going to quit going eventually.

Would you recommend bench press and squats twice a week?

Most strength focused programs have you squatting at least twice a week (on mondays and Fridays). Starting Strength has you squatting 3 times a week on non-consecutive days.

For someone just getting into weight training, I don't think it gets any better than doing a linear progression like Starting Strength of Greyskull Linear Progression.

if you cannot find the willpower within yourself to go workout you will not get it from other people

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when ultimately making the decision.

Yep, they said I can drop in at any time to check them out.

I do want to be more in shape, but I'm just lazy. Not sure how to conquer that. :|

If it was that bad I probably would have said something. Especially since it was a kid.

Ordered some whey again. 8kg this time for 100€. 4kg for me and 4kg for my GF. Should last a while :)

Btw, anyone have an idea of gelatinehydrolysate as a source of protein? AFAIK gelatin comes from collagen which apparently isn't a good source of protein. But apparently this gelatinehydrolysate should be pretty good stuff but I'm not sure how since it should be basically the same stuff (only broken to smaller particles) unless I've understood something wrong. Anyway the stuff is made from animal skin and bones. Just asking since I got a small pouch of the stuff from my mother-in-law who deals it.

Lyle McDonald in his book, The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook:
...collagen: a protein
that provides essentially zero nutrition to the body.

Got back from the doctor. She said there wasn't anything wrong with my rotator cuff since I had certain degrees of movement. She referred me to a physiotherapist and prescribed some painkillers, quote : "There's nothing we can do for you here"

- My lowerback
- My traps
and now my shoulder/s are shot and worthless and not a single one of the doctors I've been to have ever - E V E R - recommended or helped me in any other way that to dump me on some physiotherapist who ( invariably, from experience ) end up printing a sheet of exercises with fucking clipart pictures attached and say "here you go, do these". Mate, I've done em' , I did em to death, I've done them for years and I still hurt.

But no worries, no fucking worries, no more worthless quacks for me, as soon as I'm done with my cut I'm turning to nandrolone... atleast that's something that will do, however god damn intangible the relief might be I'm certain it's going to be better than the nothingness the healthcare here provide me...

Fuck me, just sitting here and typing this ragepost is giving me shooting pains through the entire shoulder...

Apparently I got in contact with Dave Tate without even knowing it. He was the one on twitter last night. My new belt was shipped out yesterday, I don't have to ship this one back until the new one gets here, and they are refunding my shipping. I also don't have to pay to ship this "wrong" one back.

That there is good customer service.

Lyle McDonald in his book, The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook:

Protein is different depending on the source. Whatever your main source is, it really needs to break down to leucine, Iso-leucine, and valine which are the most important amino acids for muscle building and recovery. You need the others as well but the great thing is that meat and fish protein have complete amino acid profiles. Soy does as well and eggs and dairy have all of the important ones.

You can google leucine sources or whatever to see an actual list.

There are some proteins that are useless like collagen and the protein in baked pig skins.

Just popping in to say hell/subscribe. Anybody in here a fan of weightlifting? I did my first competiton this past weekend and it was a blast. My numbers suck but I'm working hard and making gains quick.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when ultimately making the decision.

While the advice before (you need to be your own motivation) is a reasonable statement, the feel of a group class is pretty different from doing strength training and cardio alone. There's a pretty huge variety of options in the world as to how to stay active, so don't stop looking til you find something. Weight machines are different from free weights; cardio feels different depending on if it's on a machine, a street, or a trail; every sport feels different; there's martial arts, dancing, tons different aerobics-type classes, etc.

edit: shoot double-post. sorry. meant to multi quote.

Have you tried the group classes at 24 Hr?

So I started IF today, gonna try it out and see how it works.

I have an insanely stubborn metabolism, I would have to starve myself and/or be a marathon runner to get my bf% into the single digits. Just getting it below 15% requires a herculean effort.

Working in an office doesn't help.

I go to sleep at around 11:30 PM, get off work at 5 PM, if I go straight to the gym I can be home by like 6:30 pm. So that would give me 5 hour window to stuff my face.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Nope, no fans of weighlifting here. We prefer curling in the squat rack while riding an exercise bike.

Well, I found out why my conditioning/cardio was so good even when I wasn't running before. ( I could literally run without weeks of running and have absoultely no issue making my times) My volume/intensity was insane. I came off of "taking it easy" and taking a bit off of squats/deads and I damn near died just doing a little of what I was doing before. I had no idea how nuts I was going. It's gonna take a bit to work back to that.

Good news is I think these sleeves and pants are going to be good for my low back, hams, glutes, quads etc. I didn't feel anything "bad" and my piriformus issue isn't acting up.

I'll know better tomorrow.

BBB deadlifts. That is something else. For the past few months, I've been fucking around with DL so I decided to reset and start over. Focus on form, lower weight, etc.

So much volume, it hurts to sit ;_;

Oh yeah. I've been there. When did you start BBB? It definitely gets better. But the volume is cray.

Don't neglect the foam roller. It's been a life saver. Do it before every workout.

Apparently I'm a type referred to as skinny-fat. All of my body looks reasonably "skinny" except for my midsection. I've got fat collected all over the stomach area and I hate it.

I'm low on money and time, I'm a student with an extremely heavy course load and I can't afford a gym membership or bench/weight set. I wouldn't have the space for it anyway.

I commute via bicycle and it's pretty hilly here. School started about 6 weeks ago and prior to that I hadn't had any serious or regular exercise. My legs have completely transformed from floppy masses to solid, visible muscle. My endurance has grown a ton too.

Basically I want this for the rest of my body, but especially to be rid of the fat around my midsection. Is it possible to accomplish this using only body weight exercises?

I've always been doing BBB. Just not for deadlifts. Been real lax with them. As a part of the 3 month challenge, I needed to get my shit together. It is not fun.

What are BBB deadlifts?

Boring But Big. Just a lifting philosophy by Wendler. 5x10 @ 50% your working max (90% your 1RM).

so for me, it is 5x10 @ 175. Not bad, just really draining for me because of my fuckaroundness when it came to deadlifts.

I know that feel. Need to get to the gym tonight for bbb deadlifts as well. It left me sore for days during my first week of 5/3/1.

I don't see how you could possibly be "fat" at 6'1 and 165, but the only way to lose fat is by burning more calories than you eat. You can accomplish that by eating less, getting more exercise, or both.

Squats are fine twice a week. As the gentleman with the Don Draper avatar said, SS starts with 3x a week squats.

Same with Bench. On SS, there will be some weeks when you bench twice a week and some once.

The gist it to focus on big compound movements if you want to build muscle.

The best thing for Skinny fat is usually bulking. Here is a good explanation why.

Never tried body weight only so I can't answer that.

We all lift weights, like to get strong or big. Or maybe you are on the other end of the spectrum. Trying to lose weight, get lean/cut. In the end, we care about our bodies to get out and do something. Hobby, for fun, whatever. It is something we enjoy doing.

So I have a question for you. Have you guys taken a look at the Christina Aguilera thread (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488912&page=5) and well. Is she fat? Do you consider her to be fat? I don't know, the comments there are annoying to me. I know it is just opinions but I still think she is very pretty. Is she bigger? Sure. But fat and as fat as people are trying to put her as? I don't think so at all.

If bigger is not your thing, then that is fine but I really don't see what the problem is. Maybe just a case of the internet being the internet.

She looks fine until you see her ass, it's not defined at all, it's a slab of fat. That's the main issue I have with those pictures. (very definitely could be a terrible angle of her ass though).

I think it is a combination of the dress and angles because there are other pictures taken within the same time period where it doesn't look like that all. Then again, who knows what really is going on underneath.

Meh. I don't think she is fat but I can also see why people will say so as well. The pics of her from "before" are too skinny from my tastes.
