Where do you guys buy winter jackets/outerwear?
At the thrift shop.

I can't find any coats that allow me to reach forward or move my arms around though, it's driving me crazy.
I've always had problems with long sleeves on account of my monkey arms. Most jackets that fit my arms well would have the rest of me swimming in it (I probably should have always had tailored jackets). Now that I've added a modest amount of mass, some of my favorite jackets that accommodate my frame aren't fitting at all anymore. At least one work coat and a nice running jacket are among them. They have a slim fit through the sleeves so any movement at the elbow tightens it up too much now. They looked good but since the fit is skinny I guess it's back to the thrift shop to look for more jackets.

Well you don't need protein powders, though they're convenient.

Top foods for gaining healthy weight cheaply (assuming you exercise):

Milk
Eggs
Ground meat
Beans
Rice
Pasta
Trail mix

Example diet:

Morning: three eggs, bacon and two tall glasses milk

Snack: trail mix

Lunch: hamburger, milk, salad

Snack: trail mix

Dinner: pasta with ground beef tomato sauce, milk. Or make chili, sloppy joes, whatever.

Total calories combined with weightlifting and some conditioning work will have you at a healthy weight in no time. Lots of protein too.

Is this how to get fat quickly?

Some small progress report I guess. Got a first beach photo this year:

smallbody.jpg

Usually my abs show clearly but this image was taken shortly after devouring three hamburgers off the barbie (and I guess, a fully relaxed pose).
I believe I'm down to 11% body fat now @ 66.6KG (146.5 lbs). Was 13.1% bf on last report (DEXA scan) and I was 1.5KG heavier then.
Was 72-73KG in August.

looking good more push ups will make your shoulders look better do at least 200 a day they make a huge difference in terms of what you look like.

something is weird in this thread, I was laughed at for saying I was doing around 160 push-ups, with proper variations, pauses and other things to consider, one day a week, and while it was just one guy, noone came to say "hey, don't mind the asshole, keep at it", on the contrary, other responses were "it's too much" and "You should change that" and stuff like that. I remember I asked "hey, what's wrong with doing that?" and nobody answered.

what gives? :/

and I assume that's once a week.

I don't recall the responses of "too much". I really don't see any negatives with doing that many pushups as long as it isn't impacting your other lifts (assuming that increasing your lifts is your main goal).

I went back and read and I was told to simplify a couple of times but upon reading again, I think people meant the whole thing I was doing, which included much more stuff from other bodyparts, not just the push-up thing.

so, I guess I take that back.

yeah, I didn't mean to say everyone was against me or with him, I was talking strictly about the push-up.

Does running burn that many more calories than cycling or spinning? I'm thinking about buying a stationary bike (Is there a difference between "spinning" and riding a stationary bike?) to use at home so I can watch TV or a movie while working out, but I've heard that you have to go twice as long to get the same workout as running. I'm not overweight at all, just getting a little stomach fat since I'm getting a little older (approaching 30) and due to trying to gain muscle weight and a terrible work/sleep schedule. I'd like to stay pretty lean.

Spinx start slow and build up I usualy do that amount daily outside the weekends it really made my chest and shoulders shapen up...it becomes almost routine to just add them in. Who said its too much? That's the one thing I can say I have is chest and shoulders abs I need some work but if u want defined chest and shoulders push-ups made a nice difference

The guy wants to gain weight. If he's gaining it too quickly, decrease the portions (probably reduce the pasta or trail mix or use lower-fat milk) and continue. This diet will get you plenty of protein, a good mix of calories and I even included a salad!

Got to really lift hard though.

200 daily? wow, respect.

I used to do that 3, max 4 times a week in the summer when I didn't have a gym and needed to fill the workout time with something.. but after finally finding a gym, I only do that once a week, in the interest of paying attention and not negelcting the rest of the body and have a more balanced development.

you are definitely right though, results from doing Push-ups are very noticeable and doesn't take that long, actually :)

Good results lately. I got my bench press up to 3x5 145lbs. I crossed the 135 barrier last week, and it felt great. I feel like I actually belong in the gym now that I'm benching with a 45lb plate on each side and not fucking around with some combination of lower weights. When I started, I was benching 95lbs. Yes, seriously. I was benching the bar and a 25 plate on each side. I felt weak as fuck, especially seeing the dudes with 2+ 45 plates on each side.

That's awesome to hear. I seem to be plateaued at 3x3 145lbs benching for the last two weeks, giving 5/3/1 BBB a shot to hopefully get past that. So in a couple of weeks if I can squeeze out more than 1 rep at 150-155 I'll be happy.

Almost done with my second cycle of 5/3/1 and it's been great so far. Today was bench and I managed to put up 180x8 on my last set. Big improvement from when I struggled to do 180x5 on SS. Now to try my early christmas present tomorrow.

My diet has completely fallen apart, not even in the way most do, I've had a rough couple of weeks and basically I'm not really hungry. I pretty much eat twice a day now, once in the morning and then once after the gym, some days I've even had just 1 meal (after the gym). I'll force myself to eat, but the hunger just isn't there lately.

One week left! I kinda just want to keep cutting. It's much more fun than bulking!

Lighting abuse incoming!

Now I move into a bulking phase, and then comes the important shit. Before I can pick and contest and start shaping up, I have a big issue that needs to be fixed. From my drastic weightloss I've got some loose skin that I need to have removed around my lower stomach. (you can kinda see around my belly button). It's pretty bad, I'm just good at cropping/hiding it.

Don't tell me I don't need it. Don't tell me not to do it. It's happening.

So after that, I expect to take about 2 months to recover, another month to bounce back, and 2 months to contest prep. If I can't make my show in the summer, I will do the show in the fall. I will compete next year, period.

Looking awesome dude. Hope I look like something like that one day.

And get that loose skin fixed because clearly it's on your way. If you got the money then go for it. Hell, I would get something like that fixed no matter how much it would cost. Shouldn't be even that bad of an operation since it's just your lower stomach.

The loose skin is also a good reminder of how far you've come :)

Edit:
Wow, impressive. If you don't mind me asking do you have a before picture the weight loss?
I'd like to see this too (again).

Looking good Darth.

I have a food-related question - I'm trying to find the name of this particular type of sausage. I rarely ever see them here in the UK (though not knowing their name means it's hard to know where to look exactly) but they were everywhere when I was in the US. They're small and thinner than your average sausage and seem to be popular during breakfast. At the hotel I was at when I was in San Francisco, they served up a shit load of them along with scrambled egg for breakfast.

I found a picture of what they look like, IIRC:

http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-704...usages-poached-egg-and-whole-grain-toast.html

I ask because I want to throw these in to my breakfasts and whatever else.

Bratwurst?

Looks like the one, thanks. Though I'm going to have to go a butchers as my regular supermarket doesn't sell them. Most likely for the best anyway, quality-wise.

If they dont have Bratwurst, you might be able to get chipolatas. Don't really know if they are the same, but used to have these for breakfast regularly (and Christmas dinner).

That's Italian Sausage.. If you have access to fennel seeds, ground pork and nutmeg you can make it yourself.

Pressed 135 for 6 today and (and this is the important part) did so WITHOUT fucking up, pulling, slipping a disc in, or generally negatively impacting in any way, my neck (I've had neck issues in the past). Feels good man. Feels real good.

Anyone else hitting the gym thanksgiving morning? I am looking forward to banging out a good hard heavy deads/light squats day and follow up by stuffing myself silly.

You look fantastic. Seriously, keep it up and I wish you the best of luck for your contest in the future!

I think I'm starting to taper out when it comes to deadlifts. Barely was able to get 3 reps @ 325 and I just feel real annoyed/upset about it. I will try for 1 rep @ 340 next week and then maybe deload. Or switch to rack pulls/quarter deadlifts. Maybe even take a week off since my lower back still feels sore.

What should i do for exercise in the winter when I have no weights or money to buy them? Also no gyms nearby.
I want to lose bodyfat. I already do construction but its not enough.

I've been doing a low carb diet for the past 4 months...well I've been cheating for the last 2 months but still lost a bit of weight rather than gaining but going to the gym has helped with that I think.

I'm looking the best i've ever looked but I'm doing it for 1 more month before giving it a break! Gone from 13st to 11st and getting stronger.

I can feel a big difference in my body from starting to do squats and deadlifts.

Sometimes I dont even know my strength which is nice :)

Brian Burke punched my mom
Well pulled 484 for a single after a couple sets of doubles and triples with 400/420. Haven't done any regular DL in a while now but did RDLs the day before. I might try again in a month or so.

Did front squat pyramid on sunday then did 250x20 back squat immediately after for a "burn" which wasn't a good idea at all, I did the set in less than a minute. I felt so fucking weak afterwards and skipped shoulders half way through.

My urge to cut is rising, but I'll either wait till after turkey day or start Jan 1, not sure yet. Currently 207, goal weight will be 185 and shredded for spring/summer.

I took notice of Mr.OogieBoogie's pyramid concept for workout and decided to try it today with the pull-ups, It was fantastic.

the thing with the pull-ups is that most people are doing them half-assed, if my gym is anything to go by. Most guys don't go completely down, then not completely up, then at some point losing good posture by curving the back, then trying to get momentum with the knees, Pull-ups can easily turn into fucking trainwreck and most don't notice and try to do as many as they can.

after realising this, I brought down what I was doing in summer 4 x 10 to 4 x 7 a month ago.. but even then I wasn't very happy, the last 2 sets I was exhausted and again, I wasn't being able to go completely up or down, etc....

so instead of doing 4x7, today I did 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1 with 15-35 seconds pauses inbetween. Instead of doing 28 total, I did 25, but damn, the quality of them, it doesn't compare, in the least... and I suspect that the pyramid arrangement builds more strength than regular sets over time, I am really thrilled.

recommended all the way, thanks Mr.Oogie for bringing it up.

EDIT: CONGRATULATIONS, Alienshogun :)

Decline bench - a weak ass way of fooling myself to thinking I can lift more, or the best benching technique to engage the chest to build bench strength?

Also, screw decline, its the worst of the benches and makes you look like you got manboobs.

You guys are the pros so I'll ask you.

I'm a hard gainer and it's been difficult for me to gain just about all my life. However, recently I've found something that's actually been working (to the tune of about 2 Ibs a week!); a ton of weight gainer per day. My question is, is there any reason I can't take this stuff indefinitely? It started off hard on my stomach but I've gotten used to it more a less. I currently take about 1300-1400 cals per day of weight gainer. I'm also thinking about upping that by about 300 calories in about 8 weeks or so. Also, HGH: yay or nay?

(From about 182 to 188 so far)

Dude holy shit, if you wan't to gain weight/size, eat more food for your calories.

Man I wish it were that easy. I'm stuck here, where the food is godawful, for the next mont and I have to force myself to eat 2000 in regular food each day. I can't even imagine wolfing down more.
