Is this normal?

Pic

Tried my new powerlifting belt today. I only picked it up today and was eager to try it for squats even though I hadn't properly broken it in yet. Did some rolling today but of course it needs a lot more of it.

I used it for 3 sets of squats and the picture shows the results even though it doesn't really do it justice. Pretty bad bruising on the top of my pelvic bone. Doesn't feel like anything yet but I'm expecting it to be pretty painful tomorrow.

So is this because I hadn't broken it in yet and the belt was just too stiff? Did I place it in the wrong place? AFAIK it was in the right place and I adjusted it correctly. Am I just not built for a wider belt?

On the bright side I squatted 220x6 which isn't that much but a milestone for me nonetheless :)

Normal. I have the same issue. You won't notice it after while. I think wearing it a bit higher might improve it.

That's your 1RM. You are doing the intro cycle right?

yeah that 3 weeks at the beginning. if its my 1rm i need to find a calculator for that lol. i'd guess my 1rm is somewhere around 335 but i don't feel comfortable testing it, nor do i want to test it.

edit1: ugh. www.exrx.net/Calculators/OneRepMax.html says that my 1rm is 350. fantastic.

edit2: what the hell

I tried LG for a week or so.

Worst thing I've tried. Not eating breakfast is fucking awful. Some may not mind but not eating anything until lunch is crazy for me. I got extreme hunger pangs and it's definitely not something sustainable.

totally sustainable, you just have to adjust your calories and let your body get used to the fasts.

I'm into my third month of SS, the second month felt like the actual first month, I finally feel good with all the lifts and their full range of motion.

My numbers:

Squat - 200lbs below parallel almost ATG
Deadlift - 242lbs overhand grip
Bench - 154lbs very slow progress with the bench
OHP - 81lbs slow progress as well
Clean - 88lbs still not very confident with my form to increase the weight much

This week I had the gym manager telling me I got bigger, I said thanks! He said: "no I'm not telling you that just to make you feel better, I can see progress, but don't forget about your core and legs", also a regular gym member told me: "weightlifting sure is working for you huh?", feels good man.

pic: http://h9.abload.de/img/1340364528-clip-752kbq998n.jpg

I weigh 170lbs/23yo, still looking slim, but hey I looked like this in my teens.

Silly manager, how can you forget your legs when you are squatting three times a week. :lol

I hadnt stretched or foam rolled for a while and good god, its amazing how fast my hips and it-band get tight again, probably due to having a desk job.

You sound ignorant because you believe that there is no way that anyone, ever, under any circumstance could work out on an empty stomach doing Leangains because you have not tried this method. Not only that, but you insinuated that people that do Leangains are "really weak".

never once said that. learn to read. i said it didn't sound good for me.

petrie: yea sure, buddy, people going to the gym all over are on leangains diet and fasting. yea.

yes, the guy looks better than i do. never said he didn't and i don't know how the hell that is relevant to this discussion.

No, you clearly insinuated that people on leangains are weak. Do you not understand your own words?

Fasted training? No thanks. Sounds absolutely dreadful. I bet that guy is really weak.

See, you said you bet that guy is really weak, and the reason you thought that, was because he is doing fasted training. The English language has clear meanings, and that is what you are saying.

Dumbass.

Nice work, looking good, man.

And ask the manager how deadlifts and squats don't work your legs and core.

I'm sorry? But you are taking this awfully personally, my dude. Calling people dumbasses now. OK maybe you need to learn to chill a bit eh?

Obviously I am the one with reading problems /rolleyes

Speaking of which, I upped the weight on my squats today. On an empty stomach, no less! How did I ever manage such thing? It was so miserable!

I said he looked tired/weak in the picture he posted, I didn't say the guy was weak. He would probably be a lot stronger if he ate though!

reilo: cry a little more that someone criticized a fasting diet.

What is the bare minimum weight set i would need to make use of a bench at home. Been Thinking about getting 4-6 25lbs weight.

I only weight 140 and i bench 110-115 as of right now just looking to add to this a bit and get off of using machines.

I guess you could buy more plates later as you need them. Probably go for the 25lbs weights you wanted plus some 5s and 10s...maybe a couple 2.5s if you want to dial into more precise/smaller ones.

No you didn't. You brought up him looking tired and weak in the pic as an afterthought.

Also, he eats plenty, and studies show no real benefit in lifting to eating beforehand, that's just your own silly personal bias.

Also, any regular here knows I don't take it personally at all, as I can't do a fasting diet thanks to being diabetic, so it doesn't apply to me in the slightest. I just refuse to tolerate bullshit statements like the ones you made, and then an unwillingness to own up to what you actually said. It may not be what you meant, but it is definitely what you said.

Again, see that? That's you insinuating he is weak because of a fasting diet. You then afterwards say:

Hell, he looks kind of weak and tired from that pic.
.

As an afterthought. What you did not say is:

He looks kind of weak and tired from that pic. I wonder if he could be stronger if he didn't do fasted training.

I don't have problems with people criticizing any method IF THEY TRIED IT. But you clearly haven't and you came across as completely ignorant and honorary and let your belief of what working out should be get in the way of the discussion.

Give it a try. If it doesn't work for you, then criticize it all you want.

You're a nut honestly. Take a look at my conversation with 404 Ender (who didn't react REMOTELY the way you have) and then look at yourself. I even told him that I have respect for people who can fast.

Done talking to you, you're abrasive here all the time. Ignore.

Any regular here will know that you take everything personally, judging by your post history.

Exactly. A critique based on experience is one thing. One based on bullshit and hyperbole is another. Get that nonsense out of the thread.

Abrasive? No, I am always encouraging and helpful. I am also unwilling to tolerate bullshit statements with absolutely no merit.

Yes, you changed your tune after people called you out on the dumb statement you made.

I'm aware of what I wonder means, and it's the only thing you should be saying since you have no evidence or experience with the leangains method.

No they won't, because that's as far from the truth as could be. As always, I just won't overlook it when someone like you comes in and says a bullshit statement like this began with. Has nothing to do with taking anything personally, just a way to make sure when a newbie comes in they can have bullshit like that shown to be just that, bullshit.

Without getting involved in the argument....I love leangains/IF.

I eat from 3pm-11pm. I usually can't train fasted though because I don't get off work and get ready to workout until like 7 or 8 pm.

I have trained fasted before and do it like once a week or so, basically whenever I workout on the weekends. Never had a problem with it.

Okay. I'm done, no more shirtless pics for this thread for the rest of the year. I appreciate your patience and just want to say to Fitness-GAF, thank you very much for everything you have done. I ask dumb questions and I complain about myself from time to time, but in the end, you guys pushed me and helped me out with everything I asked.

True thanks to everyone here <3

I like how in the 2nd pic it looks like Ric Flair has been giving your chest some chops. What happened there? lol

Looking good though, you can definitely see how much the cut has improved things aesthetically.

I'll admit I've never really looked into lean gains. Would it be more effective for cutting than eating low carb/less calories?

And FallingEdge, really nice progress.

Bruh, you look weak, you should eat more.

I mean, I wonder if you're weak. I mean... FUCK!

In all seriousness looking good bud, can definitely tell a difference.

I have been banned from GAF twice. Once for some comments claiming most fat people should not be blaming genetics, and another for posting something asking about a song in a porn video and mistakenly linking to said video. That's hardly "often".

So looking at the leangains basics, I'm not sure I could even do it. I usually get home around 7, sometimes later on days I have meetings (like today) so I wouldn't have an 8 hour period to eat like Id want to. I suppose I'll stick with low carb/lower cal for now.

Yeah that's what I'm doing. I can't do 16 hours, but I do try to keep my eating to 10-12 hour window, usually starting around noon, but that's early for me, as I'm a night owl.

Yeah I have pretty tight schedules.

9-12 first client/data book work

12:30-3:30 second client/data book work

4-6 third client/data book work

(8x a month) 6:30-8:30 meeting.

Between 12 and 12:30 I get to eat, sometimes while driving. I make it work, usually by eating quickly then driving. Then I typically don't eat until I get home. Ok back to book work :(

Excuse me messy hair...But decided to take a natural non tensed back pic. Still happy the way things are going, but until my cut is more apparent T shirts will be staying on...Struggling to get the weight down, but dont wanna be starving myself..but I'm anxious to see what it looks like :D

I love back days in the gym, favourite day of the week, 2nd shoulders, then legs then chest :(

I do both actually.

<20g carbs per day plus leangains.

I only do leangains because it is convenient but supposedly it works well with low carb.

First time doing regular DLs last week in 1.5 years since injury, 420x5. Lifted Saturday too after taking almost a month off now that I'm done school I can finally lift after work.

Hopefully I can do this for one rep by years end... 642x7 @ 206

You don't spot a deadlift, if he doesn't get it he just drops it. Same with ohp/military press.

And what do you mean he wanted you do lift each side?

Dude sounds a little off.

We knew, but we didn't really want to insult what he does. He wanted my friend and I to grab the little nub at the end of the diamond bar and lift it for him. Basically he wanted to do an assisted deadlift which makes absolutely no sense. It didn't work and we apologized and then laughed at him in the sauna.

Again, see that? That's you insinuating he is weak because of a fasting diet. You then afterwards say:

To be fair, the guy's lifts suck, but not entirely because his fasted training.

Good luck with your squat cycle, balddemon. You'll need it.

Thank you for your reply Mr.City!

There are no smaller weights in my gym (1.25kg per "plate"), so 2.5 jumps is what i have to do. I actually bought some smaller weights of my own, but they didn't fit the bar at the gym :p

I've tried to do some chin ups, but i can only do 3x3 max, and i need to rest in between a 3x rep :p

I was thinking as I was so weak at them atm that i should do something else instead, but you would recommend doing chin ups

I know that arm strength was going to lag a bit (as I said, I've been lurking here for some time), i just wasn't expecting it to lag so far behind...

But for the sake of argument, is there anything else i should do? Or should i just stick to the same routine and just add chin ups?

I would just run the novice program until progression stops, and then take a look at what your goals are at that point. You can try something known as the frequency method for your chin ups.
