Yeah. People are gonna do what they want to do.

Weight lifting still carries a big stigma to women due to all the junk science about training out there. Like weight lifting makes women bulky and what not. Man, the magazines like Self and whatnot have really done a number on weight lifting in terms of not making it compelling to women, even though it is very beneficial as they age to combat osteoporosis.

Moreover, the weights section can be all boys club at the gym and if you're a semi attractive to attractive female, the stares can get uncomfortable.

This is just the feedback I get from women, family and friends, that I try to convince to weight train, since weight training is better for body composition for everyone.

This is probably the exact reason there are women's only versions of a few of the local gyms around where I live.

Speaking of energy shots.

Anyone know of a tasty energy drink with as little sugar as possible? :p
I guess redbull diet might do it?

Coffee/tea is just not my.. cup of tea :p

Mio ... just add it to water. No sugar, nice 2-3 hour buzz.

Wal-mart makes a knockoff that actually tastes better and s slightly cheaper.

I don't have the book yet -- simply ordered it. I know nothing about it currently other than that it is highly recommended.

Okay, 3 days a week is also fine; I am simply saying that I can allot 5-6 days if that is better. Are 3 days more recommended? If so, how long is each session? Should I or should I not continue a cardio routine? If I should have a cardio routine, should it be on my lifting off days or on days?

I'm on my second week of SS, and I'd like to throw my opinion out there that I doubt that you'll feel like doing anything else after your workouts. Only other thing that I could see doing would be doing some low intensity walking.

Why not just buy caffeine pills? They're cheaper and better for you than an energy drink, and they're really convenient. I prefer coffee, but it's a viable option.

How much do you guys spend on your protein? I'm guessing the cheap walmart stuff is just as "good" as more expensive brands out there? Not really feeling spending 70$+ on protein again.

I get this for $32 at a wholesale club....

Admittedly I know it's probably not the best quality.

I guess you will get grams displayed on the product but taste and mixability are not so good. I would rather spend a bit more and get a quality protein. Where are you shopping where you are spending $70? Can you not buy online? I can get you a few online options for some great protein.

been on the chocolate for awhile now since my friend works @ abbott (they own EAS) works good enough and actually tastes good with milk or soy milk

I've been mixing with water and it tastes okay to me.

I'm just guessing their formula for a wholesale club is probably using "less quality" ingredients...but I don't care.

I swear by the Gaspari Probiotic Dark Chocolate myself. It was $60 last time I got the large tub at GNC and I think that's the normal running price at Amazon. Blends great (but then I do use a magic bullet which helps) but also tastes great to me in some unsweetened vanilla almond milk. It's also one of the few that doesn't ravage my digestive system and intestines.

I spend $35 on a 5 lb bag of Muscletech chocolate flavor at Sams Club. That alone is probably worth a membership over the course of a year. Otherwise, GNC may actually be worthwhile if you're a member and go in the first week of the month when they do their 20% sale. Muscletech tastes great with water, better with milk.

I'm working through a tub of muscle milk I got for $20...pb&choc (it's gross don't get it) and 3 tubs of vanilla optimum nutrition performance whey (this is delicious) that I got for $90. after that I don't know what I'll get, probably whatever is on sale on slickdeals I guess.

workout yesterday went well:

squat 300x3x5. going below parallel on my squats now, that makes life difficult haha.
ohp 120x3x5. these are easy for whatever reason.
power clean 140x5x3. I'm gonna see if I can get a form check on my power cleans. they feel good, but when I clean the bar, my legs go wide as if I was sumo squatting the bar. normal?

I got a big 5kg bag of Kinetica protein that I am looking forward to replacing the moment it's finished.

Jesus fucking christ that shit is disgusting.
Next time I'll look at more than just protein/gram.

Was gonna head to the gym to do squats but I am just too tired. Tomorrow it is.

Fuck off FE don't talk like that. Get your ass out the door, the best workouts happen when you don't think you're feeling it. GO.

so im going to be doing front squats full time, since my si joint/back just can't support heavier weights in the normal back squat. what would be a good supplemental exercise to hit areas that the front squat doesnt fully cover (im thinking mostly in the hammies).

$1.99 a lb at wal mart. 840 grams of protein for 10 bucks.

*smug face*

Really though. I stopped buying protein powder and now I pretty much keep some cooked chicken breast in the fridge at all times. 6 ounces is small and around 50 grams of protein. Easier than making a shake when I'm in a rush.

quads - leg press

Cooked chicken breast from the fridge is awful. I hate that dry taste. I need to shred it and then cook it on a pan. Throw some eggs and eat it in a tortilla wrap.

Hopefully your SI joint heals up.

I need to devise some marinades to add variety to my chicken. shredded in pasta is good but variety would be better.

50lbs at a time of unflavored recession blend from true nutrition. Pay a lot up front to get great quality at a great price. Unflavored allows me to use it for cooking and such as well without ruining the flavor profile of my foods. Amazing stuff.

http://truenutrition.com/p-4311-whey-protein-concentrate-high-grade-1lb-milk.aspx

You don't pay for anything but quality protein.

The more you order, the cheaper it is with shipping costs.

That's a really good deal. I wonder how good their chocolate flavor is.

I was looking into ways to increase my grip beside the obvious ways like holding the bar longer, etc. and I came across this article:

http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/how-increase-deadlift-max-specialized-grip-training.html

Is this just some overkill or should any of these exercises be implemented?

I'm also considering buying a quality hand grip. Any experience?

Thanks.

pullups and maybe this ? http://www.captainsofcrushgrippers.com/ I have a friend that got into this to improve his grip strength.

How are you cooking it that it dries out?

Most of the time it is just on a pan and the few times I used a crock pot it turned the same way. I am trying it with some chicken stock added. Hopefully that keeps some of the moisture in. Otherwise, the next few days I would just shred the chicken and put it in a salad or make scrambled eggs and and mix them all up in a tortilla.

You summoned me here, now you need to go atone for it. With squats.

sir yes sir. heading out after submitting this status update for work.

Wish I could help, but I'd always rather buy unflavored and flavor myself. Sugar free hershey's syrup gives me all the chocolaty goodness I'd want when I'm craving it.

Might order some flavored with my next order in small amounts though, but 25lbs left to go through still.

Great stuff.

Come on son....just bake it next time. A crock pot will ruin chicken 100% of the time, guaranteed.

Having a digital thermometer helps as well...pull it right when the breast reaches 160-165 and let it rest 5-10 min before cutting into it or storing it for later use.

I am not an expert on the PC by any means but I typically land in a bit wider than squat stance so maybe slightly wider than shoulder width. Not sumo though. I think.

I'm actually doing them tonight so I'll try and report back hah.

2010 consumer reports reported that EAS may have several heavy metals that may be unsafe. I dont know if things have changed but take it for what you will.

You need to get a skillet with a lid for those chicken breasts. Sear both sides, throw in a 1/4 cup of liquid and let it go. Also salt that breast up. It will help retain the moisture as it is being cooked.

When you are cooking unseasoned meat in the open air you are letting all the natural moisture evaporate out.

thanks! i think i'll get on the leg press machine and do some of those hack squat variations in the article.

SLDL, RDL, GHR, GM.

Hopefully your SI joint heals up.

i normally incorporate the GHR in my pull day, but i just can't DL anymore without pain. i can only do a plate on each side relatively pain free; but since i know i can't get anywhere close to my pr i've kind of had this mental block on deadlifting.

so with a push/pull split:
push -
bench
front squat
ohp
leg press
dips
hack squat (sled)

pull -
bent over bb rows
db rows
weighted pull ups
glute ham raises
hanging leg raises
barbell curls

anyway ideas on how to optimize this split? im doing more cardio at the moment (training for a 5k and have a basketball league) and with home/gf/work commitments, i dont think i can spend more time at the gym.

6 oz breast is 39g protein. Is it sad that I have that memorized?

EAS has various lines...that bag I get isn't part of the Myoplex line but this just scares the shit out of me all the same.

I spent £40 on 5KG of whey protein powder (80ish% protein), so that's $60 for 4KG of protein.

Also, looks like I'm sticking to Optimum or Six Star protein in teh future.
How's the taste with those?
