EAS has various lines...that bag I get isn't part of the Myoplex line but this just scares the shit out of me all the same.

Cytosport was sued and lost a class action lawsuit over this. I beleive it was arsenic. I got the class action thing in the mail because I used to buy it at Costco.....never again.

2010 consumer reports reported that EAS may have several heavy metals that may be unsafe. I dont know if things have changed but take it for what you will.

Why does protein powder have all these things in it? Arsenic, for example.

I don't believe protein powder is regulated for quality by the FDA since it's a supplement. This actually allows sloppiness in a LOT of bodybuilding products. Hell even bodybuilding.com was forced to pay a big fine due to, er, suspicious steroidal compounds in their products iirc.

Well fuck...gonna finish up my current bag and give it a rest for awhile. Been meaning to just eat more real food anyway. I really did this for the convenience factor.

How do you figure? MyFitnessPal has various listings...and most of them seem to think a 6oz. piece of chicken breast is 58-60g protetin and 260 calories.

4 calories per protein gram...

All the chicken breast I have ever seen is around 120-130 cal per serving (4oz) Usually like 1.5g fat and 25-26g protein

In fact, looking on myfitnesspal confirms that.

6 oz breast is 39g protein. Is it sad that I have that memorized?
hahaha Maybe. To clarify, I meant cooked weight. But I guess then that kills my protein calculation vs raw weight and 1.99/lb. But still!

My chicken doesn't come out dry. It used to. But you just have to practice with the way you cook it. I cook once on Sunday night and I have chicke that is still juicy on Friday afternoon for lunch.

Ah yes, that is uncooked, best to weigh uncooked since it is more accurate. length of cooking, dryness, etc will affect cooked weight.

Just depends where you get it from.

Just saw this. Seems like that was the discrepancy. I'm just too lazy to weight it out and then split it for each day of the week. I put it in a huge container and weigh it each evening while I pack my lunch for the next day.

Just can't trust people these days to input the correct info...fuuuuuuuuuuu

My mistake. =(

Was going off the Wegmans - Boneless/Skinless chicken breast...they had it listed as 3oz. - 28g protein.

I usually trust their nutritional info, but now it has me questioning things....not that 20g protein here or there is going to throw me off.

$1.99 a lb at wal mart. 840 grams of protein for 10 bucks.

*smug face*

Really though. I stopped buying protein powder and now I pretty much keep some cooked chicken breast in the fridge at all times. 6 ounces is small and around 50 grams of protein. Easier than making a shake when I'm in a rush.

I will never argue against chicken, steak, fish, or eggs being the best source for protein but how good are those options when you have a sweet tooth? I would prefer to save a little room for a decent protein shake. Find a good protein and it's a wonderful treat after your workout or your meal. Either some people just don't like sweets/desserts or have been turned off by terrible protein powders is what I think.

I eyeball my chicken on the grill. When it looks juicy I open the biggest piece up to confirm its done. In fact, I'm cooking some now before I go back to work!

Hngggggggggggg!

I shouldn't be jealous this is what I ate today so far.

8 egg whites
6oz Chobani yogurt
12oz Mashed sweet potato
7 oz mahi mahi
7 oz chicken breast (george foreman style :(
Grilled flat iron steak sandwich
asparagus
3 servings broccoli

it's only 1pm lol

Will never overcook anything again.

Registers temp in 3 seconds. Pricey but worth it.

I've been turned off by the price in protein powders honestly. It just wasn't worth it to me. And I don't have much of a sweet tooth so I guess that figures into it as well. However, when I feel like eating a treat I usually go for a few tbsp's of peanut butter

Yeah it's usually no big deal. I always check the labels from the food to make sure it matches. That's harder to do for stuff like fresh chicken and meat but the costco frozen breasts I get have a label.

I wonder if any of us should be worried about this.. I'm hoping the amounts are so small that they wouldn't be harmful for consumption.

Oh good point. I forgot to think about the cost. Kudos for that.

there's no doubt chicken, etc. is the best for micro nutrients (vitamins & minerals) but whey is more bioavailable than all of those sources. It is the most bio available protein source.

I'm sure it doesn't really matter though, I just use them because it is hard to eat 250-300g of prepared protein per day without it. Not because I couldn't eat it. I just don't have time to cook it. I agree about the desert. Trutein is godly in that respect. Especially with almond milk.

Yes, high five. Trutein(have tried vanilla and cinnamon and preferred cinnamon) is good stuff. I also liked Myofusion, Muscle Gauge Nutrition isolate(cake batter was so good), and right now using Cellucor COR-Performance whey cinnamon swirl. Next I plan to try Gaspari Myofusion elite protein peanut butter cookie dough. I prefer vanilla, cake batter, or cinnamon bun/swirl flavors over chocolate flavors. I like to try many brands and flavors. I have had a few bad flavors in my tasting but overall I try to read reviews before ordering.

Where do you guys buy Trutein?

I was looking at my cytosport bag and noticed it says free of banned substances in a NSF GMP for sport registered facility

Then I found this.

http://www.stayfitcentral.com/buyer...ceives-nsf-certified-for-sport-certification/

I buy it from bodybuilding.com, getrippednutrition.com, or sportsnutritiononline.com

I like the Chocolate Peanut butter and cinnabun the best. Banana cream is godly to cook pancakes and waffles with.

Shamrock shake tastes amazing but it was just limited run :(

You should try the chocolate peanut butter, and when it comes around again, shamrock shake.

Between the brands that are heavy metal free, which do you guys reckon taste the best with water or a water/milk mix?

First off remember that is a 2010 report so that's 3 years old. If going by that list, I would say anything Optimum Nutrition though these days there are many great options. All depends if ordering online or not and what is stocked where you buy.

Normally I just grab my blender bottle and pour in water. Once in a while I'll pull out my Magic Bullet and mix Vanilla ON protein with orange juice and vanilla yogurt. It tastes exactly like a creamsicle.

The above is, quite possibly, one of the biggest issues with the fitness industry. Worse than the shit programming, the crappy equipment, long term gym contracts, Crossfit injury prone boxes, etc.

The reality is that these companies can lie. Flat out fucking lie, and all the need is an asterisk that says "these statements have not be verified by the Food and Drug Administration." No oversight, no accountability. It's a fucking shame. Plus, if they use something they shouldn't or sell a shit product, the company can tear everything down and just change their name. Happens all the time.

Seriously, I'd rather be on D-Bol with no liver support than 95% of the shit on the market. I know what it does, I know the affects, and I know how it works. Before you waste a dime on a supplement, hella spend the time researching it.

Hm, is it perhaps just an american thing then?
Are we in the EU and UK safe?
Kinda, but not really.
The European Union's Food Supplements Directive of 2002 - requires that supplements be demonstrated to be safe, both in dosages and in purity.[1] Only those supplements that have been proven to be safe may be sold in the bloc without prescription. As a category of food, food supplements cannot be labeled with drug claims but can bear health claims and nutrition claims.[2]

The dietary supplements industry in the United Kingdom (UK), one of the 27 countries in the bloc, strongly opposed the Directive. In addition, a large number of consumers throughout Europe, including over one million in the UK, and various doctors and scientists, had signed petitions by 2005 against what are viewed by the petitioners as unjustified restrictions of consumer choice.[3] In 2004, along with two British trade associations, the Alliance for Natural Health had a legal challenge to the Food Supplements Directive[4] referred to the European Court of Justice by the High Court in London.[5] Although the European Court of Justice's Advocate General subsequently said that the bloc's plan to tighten rules on the sale of vitamins and food supplements should be scrapped,[6] he was eventually overruled by the European Court, which decided that the measures in question were necessary and appropriate for the purpose of protecting public health. ANH, however, interpreted the ban as applying only to synthetically produced supplements—and not to vitamins and minerals normally found in or consumed as part of the diet.[7] Nevertheless, the European judges did acknowledge the Advocate General's concerns, stating that there must be clear procedures to allow substances to be added to the permitted list based on scientific evidence. They also said that any refusal to add a product to the list must be open to challenge in the courts.[8]

Then there's the UK libel laws that allow shit like homeopathy to run unchecked, so...

Quick question.

So while doing a cut I understand that strength training is the best way to go. But does that mean that hypertrophy training should be abandoned? I ask because I'm currently doing PHAT will be cutting eventually. Should I abandon it and go back to a more standard strength program?

I think the idea is that the strength training is the best way to maintain the muscle you have already developed. I think supplementing with hypertrophy training to attempt to still see some gains won't be a problem, so long as you do not sacrifice strength training whatsoever to do so.

I'm still getting stronger somehow.

Yesterday I did flat bench BB 300x4 and incline DB bench 130x4. Today I squatted 315x5 and I had more left! Next week I'm going for 335x5. All this and I weighed in at 182.5 this morning.

I wish I knew how it was happening.
