Ugh, got over ambitious on squats today and now I feel a sharp pain in the lower left area of my back. Feels like a muscle sprain. God damnit.

Any advice on how to treat this quickly so I can get back to the gym in full force?

So, a bit of personal news for you folks.

I've been in a rut with my personal and professional life due to some really fucked up circumstances.

However, today it seems I may have walked into my perfect profession. One of the very successful globo gym chains in the area wants to hire me as a PT manager.

I help design the programs.
I help train the staff.
I hire and fire.
I divvy out the clients to the trainer.

It's a combination of management and training that I've only been able to dream about. I, a black steel barbell type of guy, getting to run the training program at a gym. Granted, it'll be on my shoulders to get the clientele to shell out the dough to train at the gym, but that's nothing.

So, get excited.

Excellent news. Congratulations.

It's still a good goal to look like how he's carefully positioned to look in those shots. I mean, he's still a big guy in the movie, just not as cut up as they make him look. He's a big guy in Warrior though.

Beaten. His Warrior workouts were pretty intense, I think they're on Youtube.

He's also on a shitload of tren and has the power of Hollywood magic behind him, so don't compare yourself too much to those pics.

Mmmm infinite food. I'd have salmon all day everyday. Salmon with my eggs when I wake up, salmon sushi rolls for lunch and a big hunk of salmon for dinner

Anyone take a pre-workout supplement? I've been thinking about jack3d, and I came across this:

Honestly, you don't need it.

Black coffee will do you just fine. If you're fasting, mix it with some amino acids.

I've used Jack3d, and it's great, but in hindsight coffee has had the same efficacy. Plus, it's cheaper.

Thanks for the well wishes everybody. I have an interview with the VP on Monday. As long as I don't do anything stupid, I should be good to go!

Been able to work around my shoulder pain with a neutral grip on DB shoulder presses, can't press as much as I used to but I can rep out, so I'm back in bidness.

In the meantime I'm doing all sorts of shoulder rehab work with bands and stretching out where my pec/shoulder meet which I'm assuming had grown to be too "tight".

I had to bail after 25 seconds. Can't listen to his lingo.

I used to take them all the time but not any more. It's like many things, the more you take it, the less effective it is and then you end up needing to take it to feel how you would normally feel.

I only have some Craze occasionally if I have to workout at a weird time and I'm dead tired. Yesterday I didn't get to the gym until 11pm and didn't get done until 1am so I took some, (caffeine would have worked too) but really don't get hooked on that stuff.

Yeah, I'm sure the lighting and Hollywood Magic helps out a lot but I still think it is a nice goal to aspire to as long as you are within reason.

Can't wait for back day tomorrow.

Falling, the last few responses about Tom Hardy reminds of the Homer Simpson Frogurt scene.

I'm just going to eat apples and bananas beforehand. Apparently it's better anyway (for me at least) because I took a small dose and crashed really hard during a workout.

Why is it so hard to gain strength? Been training for 5 weeks. Went from 63kg to 67kg (5 reps). Tried training again. Could barely manage 63kg for an odd reason. My arms felt fried. My weight hasn't changed at all in the time period. I find it an epic struggle to gain weight. What is a good simple meal(s) that I could potentially add to my diet to increase the cals?

Strength can vary for a lot of reasons. Are you properly rested? Properly hydrated? Were you hungry? In a bad mood? Stressed?

Calorie-rich foods you could add might be nuts, milk/dairy, peanut butter, juices (if you specifically want more carbs), etc. Make sure you are getting enough protein as well.

I wonder how similar is this to what I did in the music conservatory.

in the school I went to, everybody had to take 8 years of piano and only a limited amount of students around year 5 or 6 could say they (somewhat) looked, sounded, behaved and had the knowledge of a true musician/pianist...

all students in years 0 to 2-3 would be newbies trying hard to look like but never being one, like I said you can't accelerate time and development.

Strength training/Weight lifting feels like that in many ways, many more than I thought...

I try to make an analogy to that part of my life in regards to efficieny at the gym, results by looking at the mirror, results on strenght, form on all exericises, discipline.... going by that analogy, I am VERY MUCH a first year newbie but the hope of evolution and what will come if I stick to it makes me want to see the results in the years to come and not give up, patience is a virtue worth learning.

regardless of years, I love working out.

well, that was random..lol

People don't realize how much time and effort gets put into strength gains.

The best part about progress is putting things into perspective.

My easy squat warm ups are more than I could do as my 1rm last year.

I'm pulling over 2x the weight on deads than I could last year.

I can close grip BP more than I could 1rep regular bench last year.

My medium shirts almost look like they shrunk in the wash because I actually have muscles developed in my shoulders and back now.

Agreed.

and it's like the more you care, learn and get into it, the more there is to work on and fix and get better at. There is so much more to it than picking things up and putting them down.

I am liking a lot the learning phase I am in now, talking about it with friends that try to do it at the same level, trying to come up with conlusions about conflicting info about everything. the topics of food, exercises, form, pros and cons of every exercise, trying to research more and stuff like that.

it does helps to have some one to talk about it.

Here is my back from years ago. I wish I did more rows, deadlifts and squats:

not that your back doesn't look damn fine, but your arms and shoulders got more of my attention :D

Please ignore my messy hair and room. Most recent one I could find, from a few weeks ago.

I'm always in awe to see this kind of definition. How each muscle has its own look and just looks so unreal. Good ish.

How long have you been doing this, Darth? I'm in awe.

I am awaiting anwser to this, as that will be my time reference.

A friend of mine with a similar body told me 10 years with the first 2 or 3 "not being very serious" about it.

Are any of you or have any of you done direct isolated arm work to get bigger arms? What is/was it? One of my main goals is to increase my arm size and it's only about 12 inches right now.

63 to 67 on what lift? What programming are you using?
