It's not too bad, only seems to be painful when I'm walking up stairs or making a squatting motion.

Vaguely related, dislocated my shoulder whilst warming up (hypermobility). Aaaaages since I've had that happen.
Ouch. Take it easy with the pull.

On a related note to your shoulders, I can dislocate both of them at will :D

Everyone thinks its gross :(

Came home and just so tired and no energy. Ate a bunch of deli meat, felt instantly better thanks to dat fat. Then had a bowl of low carb ice cream and low carb brownies. Feel like my old self again.

I'm really curious how this weekend is going to be, with all the naughty foods and alky.

What bothered me a bit was that she brushed off my comments on IF by firstly stating "he's a doctor"

I love how doctors know everything. Free infinite knowledge of everything about the body with every PHD. That's why there don't have to be subsets of medical knowledge, because obviously once you're a doctor you can just as easily be a dietary specialist as a neuro-surgeon. Just depends how you feel that morning. ;)

I pulled my groin in like March couldn't squat regularly till the summer. My bench suffered too. Deadlifts shot up since I couldn't do much else.

Speaking of doctors, in general, I like my Endo. He is behind me 100% with my goals and basically allotted me a larger amount of insulin for use due to increased carb intake for my bulking since it has to be mail-ordered and if I go up I don't need to put in new scripts constantly for my daily allowance. Been with him for years and he allows me to adjust as needed for my diet which is great. He also handles a few notable athletes in Chicago so he is well versed in sports nutrition.

Most docs are absolutely the wrong people to talk to about nutritional needs and lifestyles for anyone remotely athletic. Not that that makes them any less of a doctor but it is important to find practitioners who understand the rigors of physical training and the food requirements needed. I feel lucky he knows his shit.

Not just nutrition. I was put on beta blockers and asked specifically if they'd affect my training for / my capabilities on an event that was doing. I was told categorically no.

Trained the next day, 30bpm lopped off my max heart rate. Beta blockers in the bin. Job done.

Knee felt a lot better today and making sure to watch my stance I had no pain with 3x5x210 squats this morning. Feel like I dodged a bullet.

Also got 5-4-2 on chin ups after being stuck at 5-3-1 for several attempts. However I had my first failure since I started this program, 85lbs on OHP. I had seen that coming and thought it was going to come at 82.5, actually.

2 weeks out from my meet today ends my last deload day before the meet. Already getting nervous, but that's just part of it. A bunch of my buddies are competing in the USPA Kentucky state meet today, looking forward to seeing how they do.

What do you do for the next 2 weeks now?

Hey bud, I think if you did anything significant, you'd be in a ton of pain. Laughing, moving, etc. would all be extremely difficult. Maybe a strain?

these songs been on repeat for me while at the gym, get me hype hype hype

I never pulled it but I have experienced crazy ab cramps. Those hurt.
Yeah it was just a really bad cramp. Maybe I'm getting old, lol. Still a little sore, but I'm fine.

I tend to get cramps/spams a lot when I'm not hydrated enough, so probably that. Never in my abs though, always my triceps.

Accidentally locked most of my workout gear in my car and had a pretty good workout regardless.

Front Squats - 210lbs 1x2, 190 2x5
Db Press - 65s 3x3 (PR)
Good mornings - 135lbs 4x10 (PR)
Pendlay rows - 220 lbs 3x5 (PR)

May I ask why you were prescribed a beta blocker in the first place? Their main use is to decrease the heart rate.

Also, about thew whole doctors and nutrition thing, I think it's a bit disingenuous to just outright say doctors don't know the value of nutrition. Medical education is constantly changing and, at least in my school, nutrition has been a heavy focus with its relationship to health.

Noooo, don't say that.

It makes me feel ancient.

Anxiety. Ironically I just became even more anxious because I knew I wouldn't be able to train properly with them.

As for doctors not knowing nutrition, that wasn't really the argument. More than being a doctor doesn't automatically make you an expert on nutrition (especially the older lot, with woefully outdated / incorrect knowledge). Hell, there are a handful of people here that have studied more on the subject than most doctors would ever come close to in their lifetimes.

I get them in my left side abs often. It's the worst. Probably need some MT on them, but that would be miserable.

Just finished a tough (loss) basketball match. Somehow damaged my elbow (nerve I think?) - took an impact on it and felt a shooting pain go all the way up my arm numbing two of my fingers. Now when it's bent at a certain angle it feels pretty painful.

Looks like I'm only training legs for the next few days!

I try to go 6 days a week.
Same.
Sunday thru Friday:
Legs
Chest
Back
Shoulders
Bis
Tris

I have to get them all with high volume or I just won't grow. Tried several programs over the years but the simple once-per week nets me the most gains consistently. I will, however, throw in drops, supers, etc regularly every few weeks and about every 3 months I take a rest week which is usually heavy bag week to keep movement and muscle activation so its more of a deload but not with weights. I do attribute slow growth periods to not being able to absorb nutrients efficiently as I'm without a thyroid and a T1 diabetic. Even with careful planning I get down in the dumps and depressed occasionally when I hit plateaus but I grow more in spurts. I find it more mentally challenging than anything. Physically and calorie-wise I'm good to go but frequent med changes wreak havoc on my body's ability to absorb nutrients and heal. Still, press forward as best I can.

3 lifting days, 3 turbo training days, 1 outdoor ride day (usually 4hrs +).

Whilst all of that is going on, I do 5 days of greasing the groove too. Tons of pullups and pushups on those.

You were given a beta blocker for anxiety? I'm sorry that your physician didn't take your interest in fitness into account before prescribing you something that would directly affect your ability to perform.

And as far as the doctors and nutrition things is concerned, I would agree that older doctors might not be up to date on the new findings when it comes to nutrition, but that is changing. A lot of what old doctors know about nutrition most likely relates to disease states like diabetes or hypertension and not necessarily things like fitness. Sports medicine is still a relatively new field and my hope is in the future things like nutrition, health, fitness and whatnot will be a lot more intertwined.

Guys, how many days a week do you exercise? I tend to do it 4 times a week.

I'm moving to 4x a week from 5x.

Basically dropping 2nd leg day. Monk lifestyle is killing me and trying to eat surplus on top of that would be disgusting. I was barely managing maintenance for a while.

On other days ill walk the dog and I usually walk about a mile or so at work during the day when I take breaks.

Ugh, base mileage training is getting hard. Shortest workouts start at 2hrs 15mins now and the longest is three hours. Losing the will to live.

Wouldn't be so bad, but so far they've actually been fairly difficult rather than just being able to shut off for a couple of hours and make my legs go round.

3x of lifting a week for me, but I'm upping it to 4x. My shoulder feels good enough to OHP.

I might add in a day or 2 of cardio, we'll see. I'd rather go an extra day and lift puff and fluff stuff but I don't know if Id feel like making it there on my late nights.

3-4 lifting days, 4 days of 3 mile runs, 1 day of longer trail runs with lots of elevation.

That long trail run can sometimes sap my willingness to lift a 4th day.

Also on the 4 day crowd, although I aim for 5. I generally only work out for 45 mins though, I basically skip cardio 3 days and do 30 mins cardio and abs on my extra day.

I wonder how much my takeaway food on a weekend is restricting my gains

What's up chaps.

I'm on a business trip for a week. No gym access.

I've literally never done a bodyweight routine. What's some stuff I can do in a hotel?
