So I finally bought a pull up bar. Where would people recommend putting pull-ups and chin-ups and variations in a stronglifts plan? Would an 'off' day work, that would be what I would prefer just so my workouts don't get too long.

Sunday and Monday were some of the most energized lifting moments I've ever had, so I used that to do some heavy weight low rep lifts. I'm still feeling it throughout my chest and back.

Is there such thing as going a bit too hard at the gym? I'm going to rest until Thursday if possible.

when your hiking across the badlands, mount rushmore, grand tetons and yellowstone; and you crave to workout in a gym.

Do some body weight shit. It'll be even more epic in those environments.

My grip fails at 140kg DL (4x5) so I ordered lifting straps on Amazon. Do you guys use straps? Do they help?

Also, how effective are these things for lower arm strength and what do you call them in English?

I can buy a pair with 40kg resistance at a local store and I wonder if they're worth it.

edit: Apparently, it's "grip strengtheners".

Nice and smooth today, 335x3 easy on deadlift, had a lot more in the tank but I wanted to do more vanity lifts since wedding is so soon.

Home gym is beyond glorious. If anyone has the means, do it. Worth every single penny. After I get back from honeymoon I'll finally finish the garage with mirrors and slat wall hanging for everything else. Can't wait for it to be completed.

I use straps as a back up since you wont get nearly as much grip development. Use chalk or hook grip before straps. If your gym doesnt allow traditional chalk, get liquid chalk.

Add some farmers walks on a day you dont deadlift, no chalk /no straps. Those help a lot with developing grip strength.

I do all my working deadlift sets with chalk and mixed grip unless I've torn a callous during the workout then I'll switch to straps. Mostly all other pulls like pull ups, shrugs, bent over rows I'll do with straps on because I don't care about increasing grip strength for those movements.

They had grilled cheese and tomato soup at lunch today, and it's one of my favorite food pairings so I had to eat it even though it's a low carb day lol. Made up for it by doing high volume high intensity accessories today, so hopefully that grilled cheese went straight to those gains

argh, debating if i should sign up for a new gym membership, getting kinda annoyed with how pack 24hr fitness has become after work....

A bit of a milestone yesterday: 135 pounds on squats. A plate on each side.

I'm sort of proud of myself, considering that before 2 months ago, I never squatted before in my life and even the bar was difficult.

This time next week, if things progress according to program, I'll be up to my bodyweight.

I need to focus on my booty again for more lockout strength. I think my quads and hammys caught up to where it doesn't look that big anymore

First week of putting on weight went well. Up a lb, which is about where I wanted to be.

Trying deadlifts again not so well. Even at 95lbs, I got pain in my glutes for the next couple days. I'll definitely need to schedule an MRI. I wonder if something is torn from my accident.

IMO, these things work better as a stress reliever on your way to/from work, like if you're walking or riding the bus. I'd say wrist barbell curls are a better way to develop strength.

Honestly (while you're right that wrist curls will give you stronger forearms), these things are LEGIT for grip strength

STOP ROLLING YOUR FUCKING SHOULDERS DURING SHRUGS.

Jesus fucking Christ. I mean every single one of these doofuses has obviously working out for a while. How is this still a thing?

Wrist curls potentiate more grip strength by making the muscle bigger, but actually practicing grip related things have better direct carryover to deadlift grip strength. Ie farmers walks, static holds, and endless ropes.

Deep breath. Don't let it bother you. If I got upset at people at the gym doing something improperly I'd never be happy.

Well we all vary with respect to degree of being absolutely "proper" with exercises but the rolling thing is flat-out, 100% wrong and dangerous. It has been highlighted a trillion times by various sources. I just don't understand how these people missed it.

I'm long past giving a shit about people doing dangerous things at the gym. Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.

You look like a comic book character. You look like that from running and pushups?

Ha no I wish. Lots of bodybuilding routines. I just have only had the energy to run and do push/pullups for the last couple months.

So true. If someone approaches me and asks my opinion ill tell them but I really couldn't care less what they want to do as long as it isn't endangering me or others.

I know the feeling.

Everyday, I see the same asshole doing stupid shit. Sometimes, I just get pissed off and I'll shout at the mirror to lift the shit.

Wait... Is it that guy constantly doing the splits in the corner with that smug look on his face? Yup, I know exactly who you're talking about. F that guy.

Huge Craigslist score. Diamond pro bumper plates, set of 15s, 25s and 45s for 120, in mint condition. Now I have 650+lbs of weight at home and a full bumper set with lifting platform. Honestly just need the walls done to hang equipment, a glute ham raise, farmer handles and a nice rower, then I'll have everything.

Welp making the leap and started calorie counting and eating the proper amount of protein per day, been doing Starting Strength on and off for just under a few months but want to take my training seriously now, and subscribing to the thread for some inspiration.

I'm trying to not let it get to me. I'll try Hexbar deadlifts next week and see how they feel. Luckily I can high bar squat just fine

Jumped off SL 5x5 after two months and moving into a regular PPL regimen. SL at least got me lifting regularly and decidedly better with forms, but I'm not going for straight lifting power nearly as much as aesthetics.

Never really dealt with AMRAP sets before so it's an interesting change of pace for the last set in PPL.
Started yesterday with my Push session, was nice to actually use what SL got me in other lifts.

Also I find it easier to do ass to grass squats than say regular squats, since I started I just did it that way, careful to not let me knees collapse but had a couple saying you shouldn't go ass to grass, others saying it's better. Feels good man, but still unsure. Pretty sure my form is good, or at least I've had a couple people tell me I'm fine.

whats the deal with people that use multiple things at once? theres literally one guy at my gym that does this and it is annoying as fuck. i wouldn't mind as much if he wasn't a fucking dick about it, but he doesn't let people work in with him even though he is using diff shit. one time i asked to work in and he just says "superset" before putting his shitty stock iPhone ear buds back in and acting like no one else exists and he can't hear anything.

i used to train at the UCF gym, so going to a regular strip mall gym has been such a change of culture. that place had 4 squat racks for a 65000 student body. people there shared everything and offer pointers and help beginners.

went to the gym yesterday expecting to do mostly squats. ended up doing sumo deadlifts because someone was using the rack. like they need to add another one or redo the whole layout of the place.

anyways, sumo dl. then like 5x10 squats @ 185 because i was too lazy to add weights.

and then finished off with some ham work.

And today my butt and hams are sore. RIP world.

you sure you weren't lifting with Dom? lol

Seriously though, fuck people like that. Nothing wrong with supersets but you have to let people work in with you.

Lol where I go I'll be hogging a squat rack taking 5 mins in between sets. When someone asks how long I'll be I laugh and tell them a long ass time but you can work in with me. I shit you not most people look at me like I'm insane.

I hate working in on squats. Got to adjust the rack unless the person is the about the same size as you. Not trying to expand energy by pulling off weights and putting them back on

FINALLY signed up to the gym here in Japan. Going through the sign up process was mostly painless, even for the shit I clearly did not understand lol. Just said yes to everything and no to having any particular illnesses or physical disabilities. Also helped a friend who is pretty out of shape but wanting to fix that get signed up too. I'm one of those shy, goes to the gym at crazy night hours and does his thing types so hopefully he can be consistent when I'm not around to encourage him.

But yeah, I am pretty annoyed at myself this summer. I went on a pretty decent eating diet, being particular about what I ate, did about 5k a day ect. to get in decent shape for summer and a festival here which required being mostly naked. Soon as the festival was over all the hard work went away thanks to the insane amount of summer drinking parties in this country lol.

Ready to get back at it now that school has started again for the kids. I got 400 cardio buddies before weight training now haha.

I squat with my daughter who is 5'1 and we are constantly pulling weights off and on and lowering and raising the bar. It's not that bad.

I'm 5'11 and my fiance is 5'2, you get used to it and it becomes routine. Obviously it's quicker and easier when you're by yourself, but you make it happen.
