sorry. as a boxing fan first and an mma fan second, this is such bullshit. i didnt think mcgregor would even land a punch. but i had him win the first 3 easily. then mayweather turned on the engines and ripped away. i had maybe the 8th going to conor too. i dont think mayweather was ever in any danger but give the guy some fucking credit. he did way better than most boxing fans expected.

and objectively, ufc IS more exciting overall than boxing. just look at the fucking undercards of a ufc event compared to the undercard of this, the biggest event in history. and i think ufc fans have a point, if it was fight, a fight fight, conor would smoke mayweather. he's the better overall fighter. again. i never actually believed conors boxing would trouble mayweather though. i had him losing both diaz fights. but i want to seperate that first part out from that.

and finally, the heel/face thing isnt based on race. its based on being the bad guy. its conor's schtick too. and ronda. and brock lesnar. but then you have someone like anderson silva who is a face. so its not race.

It was a boxing match not mixed martial arts or a street fight. It is down to boxing ability and nothing more. Conor was severely lacking and showed no quality in this regard, he had good counter punch timing but those punches were basic with no snap and poor form. Oh yeah he also switched stances well but that didn't really do much.

Race is a big part of boxing in America. Has been for a long time and extremely well documented and actively manipulated by promoter but yeah he is also repugnant.

The difference isn't giving the guy some credit it was 40 yo no power punches Mayweather literally walking through as you put it "the better fighter overall". There was no strong left hand, there were no angles. Floyd didn't even do anything he typically would do in a normal boxing match. Most fans were yelling he'll get a KO, now we giving him credit when he effectively did nothing? "If this was a real fight" not a UFC sanctioned event there will probably be guns and weapons involved and Conor might get killed. All these "ifs" Your bias is showing a little bit.

Exactly and that is why when I keep reading people claim that MacGregor "held his own" in this fight makes me chuckle. Mayweather was never in trouble in the slightest and literally ended it when he was ready to.

He carried that fight for 10 rounds which allowed for both fighters to "win". Floyd gets the obvious 50-0 win and Conor gets the "win" by "holding his own".

He actually had to fight Canelo. Canelo wouldn't carry MacGregor for 10 rounds. He would get him outta there in under 5.

What's a "fight fight"? He didn't look much like the "better overall fighter" Saturday night. Just looking at the way he punches tells you that. He just couldn't stop bending his wrist. No flush connections. Didn't even see any of his 28 year old prime bouncing heads off the canvas power.

ie, if there were kicks and takedowns. the overall skill set. in the context of the guy i was replying to, that mcgregor has a better overall fighting skill set than mayweather. obviously it doesnt mean SHIT when it comes to boxing. but its what i was referring to.

That's fair enough, but does that deserve much credit when Mayweather's whole plan was just to walk forward and let Conor throw punches at will until the later rounds? From my point of view Conor threw what he wanted and had zero power behind any if them. He might not have connected flush with anything, but there was not a single punch that looked to have power that you'll usually see in a 28 year old Welterweight boxer.

Not talking movement, combos, distance, just power in a punch. I think boxing gets shunned against MMA lots of times because of the kicks elbows, etc. But in general it doesn't seem like the power is there from somebody just throwing a punch.

If Mayweather fought properly he might not have but he was open and exposed himself regularly, he also lead with his head many times in a way an experienced boxer would have at the very least connected with but Coner failed to even move on it. A lot of the time it looked like Mayweather was trying to create a more entertaining fight and prevent Coner from getting points deducted.

I bet a lot of boxers he fought over the years would have loved to have gone against him fighting like that because that would have been an easy fight and easy money.

If Mayweather fought MacGregor the way he fought Canelo, does it go 10 rounds? Mayweather wasn't looking to finish MacGregor or most importantly, embarrass him.

He was looking for a decisive victory that wouldn't go to the judges.

Neither fighter lost face in this bout. That is the remarkable aspect of all this.

It was a master stroke of a promotion.

Conor deserves props for stepping in the ring and having the stamina to last as long as he did against the world's best. He did have some solid footwork and bobbing, I'll give him that. Definitely a take away skill from UFC. But at no time did he really pose a threat to Floyd, like expected.

This was the best outcome for Floyd. An early win would have soured people and left a bad taste in their mouths. People wouldn't want to buy his next show(If he does it) and people would be less interested in his merchandise.

But he still needed to put Conor down on the ground before the end.

This is without a doubt what Floyd wanted and he played his game to the T. The fact people are saying Conor held is own is telling to how well Floyd sold him. Viewers left happy for a glorified exhibition match.

Hell, this probably helped a piece of shit like Floyd's image even. He showed his skill, sold Conor, and came out looking like a respectable champ. Didn't even open his mouth too much prior. It's probably the best Floyd has ever looked as a person.

You punch with your legs. Conor never brought them with him when attacking. That's precisely why Floyd was willing to eat those punches.

I'd give anyone who gets in the ring credit. It doesn't mean I think he give Floyd any problems or looked like a boxer, but it takes guts to put your body on the line. It's easy for people who've never been in a boxing ring to laugh at him.

How the hell have you seen boxing and think that? The last several rounds was McGassed walking around, hugging, and throwing empty punches that might injure a kitten if it's not in a defensive position. His hands were completely down and he hugged May many times a round when he wasn't throwing punches that did 0 damage. The punches towards the second half of the fight were so wack, that Flloy wasn't even trying to defend that much anymore. He has no skill or technique on top of a pitiful motor. His punches for such a strong hitter from the UFC were soft as shit as well.

That was a pathetic display. I don't blame mcGassed for it mind you, the dude is a genius businessman/marketer and has amazing charisma to make so much money out of a silly fight. But you saying you watch boxing and considering McGassed as someone who has a chance to be a pro boxer when a 40 year old 2-year retire with bad hands just had the easiest pro win of his 50 W career by a landslide. A heavy hitter is going to pulverize him if he's not cut in the first few rounds because he has no motor at all. That was obvious in the UFC, let alone in boxing where it's far more important as was evident in this fight.

McGassed literally needs a hit to the chin in the first 3 rounds that catches them completely off guard, or any elite competent boxer is going to rock and embarrass him.

You can't ignore that Conor took a risk. Fair play to him for that. He's not a boxer and he put himself in front of the best of his generation. He was completely outclassed, as expected, but credit to him for getting out of his comfort zone and having a go.

Also to the poster saying he's a pro fighter, yeah, but in a different sport.

There are plenty of boxers giving him credit for the same reason, and I'll go with them rather than you lot.
 
It is possible for Conor to hold his own while Mayweather wasn't exactly in that much danger. Conor exceeded what I expected and Mayweather still showed why he was one of the best ever.

I don't think anyone deserves anything, but he definitely earned points just for stepping in, and not looking completely useless. Granted, that's mostly on Floyd, but Conor still has to land shots - they weren't gifted to him in the sense that GGG let's someone tee off.
