farhatraza said:Speaking of Spurs, Modric is said to be on 43k per week. I see him moving...he could easily triple his wages (he's worth it) and play for titles.
Ushojax said:Or the chairman could decide to increase his wages, and keep him. Modric is not particularly bothered about moving right now, he's always said it is up to the club and that he is happy to stay. If he does leave, it will be open season on all our top players like, VDV, Bale and Sandro and it will confirm that the chairman has no ambition for the club. Selling Modric would be bad for the club's standing.
dschalter said:he is the best player on the team though and is his pay isn't all that close to reflecting it.
Chriswok said:Aye, but we don't spend our time looking for fat mackems, or fat Mackem Geordies in your case.
All true. But not enough to definitely keep him. On the money side Spurs pay up to 70k. I can imagine clubs offering up to 150k to him. I doubt money is his main priority but it counts.Ushojax said:Or the chairman could decide to increase his wages, and keep him. More importantly is the footballing side. He's too good a player to not be playing in the CL regularly and winning things.
I am sure he is happy at Spurs. Being happy doesn't rule him out from leaving though IMO. Spurs won't want to sell, but if good money isthere and Modric asks for it to be accepted it can happen. Players dictate transfers these days. Not saying he'll definitely be moving this summer, just think with the apparent interest in him there's a good chance it could happen.
Did you read my post in the previous page -_- ?Joe said:further punishment for calciopoli![]()

Levy sent out that letter saying they were not selling anybody right? He wouldn't be very popular if he went back on those words...Ushojax said:Oh, I totally agree that it is possible, in fact I think it's likely, that's how little I trust the chairman. But I think any move will originate from him and not the player. I trust Harry will fight tooth and nail to keep him and I don't think Modric is the sort of player who would press for a move, not yet.
Lotta people are 50/50 on Welbeck, but I have been excited for these 2 for a long time, really happy to see them back with the club.DominoKid said:Cleverley and Welbeck (?) as the main architects.
England would do well to embrace passing like that.

Luka Modric dropped a bombshell on Tottenham when he told Sportsmail he wants to leave White Hart Lane and sign for Chelsea.
The midfielder took the stunning decision to declare his reasons for wanting to join Chelsea, who are preparing a second offer for the Croat in the next 48 hours.
It is an action that will enrage his employers and Spurs supporters, but Modric says he wants to move to a club with ambitions of winning the Barclays Premier League title and is going public to force the issue.
Last night the 25-year-old spoke to Sportsmail from his holiday boat and said: I want to leave Tottenham as friends. I have enjoyed my time there, but now it is right for me to look at another club.
'I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.
A second Chelsea offer is due - and this time the price will rise from their opening £22million bid to closer to £30m.
And Modric said: Chelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League.
I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family. I like the city.
The news will explain why Manchester City and Manchester United have been monitoring and talking, rather than formally bidding. They have clearly got wind of Modrics desire to stay in London in the last 24 hours, which puts Chelsea in pole position.
I dont want to have an argument with Tottenham, said Modric. The supporters have been very good to me and I have enjoyed my time playing for the club, but it is for football that players leave clubs and move. It has happened to Tottenham before. It is normal for a player to dream about playing for a bigger club.
Modric will speak to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about arranging the transfer but insists the desire to leave is not about money.
'If somebody comes to the club and the offer is good for me and acceptable to them, then I want to leave, he said. It has to be good for my ambition. It has to be a club who are winning titles and playing in the Champions League.
This is not about money, it is about ambition. When I came to England, I was dreaming about winning titles. That is still the same.
Tottenham are a big club, with good players and a good manager, but I want to fight for the championship. Spurs will always have a place in my heart. My experiences in the Champions League have left me with the desire for more.
When asked what happens next, Modric said: I need to talk with the chairman. I wont ask for a transfer, no. That would be disrespectful. I hope they can reach an agreement (with another club) that is satisfactory for everyone. I am on holiday, but I need to speak and to see if I can find a solution to this.
Spurs fans will expect Levy to offer Modric a new contract and keep his word. The chairman has said that he will not allow the player to go, while manager Harry Redknapp described the original Chelsea offer as ridiculous.

And yet, every manager would still love to go to Chelsea,
Sign a contract
Get fired
???
Profit

Clutching at straws here for United fans but in The Telegraph's story Luka says "they (Chelsea) are the only ones who sent an offer and at the momentthey are my first choice".
Maybe the dream isn't dead just yet...maybe...

Expensive he is but he is perfect for the role we need filling in CM. I really can't think of a more suitable and realistically attainable player for us. We are never going to get hold of Xavi, Iniesta, Schweinsteiger...I'd prefer Modric over Sneijder or Nasri. Will be gutted to miss out on him and see him go to Chelsea.Rad- said:I don't want him. Ashes1396 said:I think we should get somebody less then 25 million to fill that gap. An up and coming twenty year old is better then 30 million modric or a stop gap solution at that. We need a goal scorer. Shame so few goal scoring midfielders are about.
Chriswok said:Oh hey look at that. All of Man U's Champions League group games are followed by a home fixture in the league. Wow.
/fake surprise.
KidA Seven said:I disagree with that. Normally I would agree with that, but now that Gibson is being sold, and Scholes is retiring, we need someone who can make an impact right away. Not to mention Giggs has been playing a central role and he will be another year older next season.
Everyone knew last season our midfield was our weakness. Now those 2 are gone on top of that (more so Scholes), and we need someone with experience and quality.
Ashes1396 said:Fair enough. As highly as I rate Modric, I don't think he is worth more than £25 million. Others will disagree of course. Fundamnetally, we need goals from the central midfield, and he is not a goal scorer.
