Going to be no shortage of midfielders in the northwest next season, thats for sure.

EDIT:

The fuck?! Where did that come from?!

Hope to god he's getting paid per game, at least until he proves his fitness.
Know much about him? What type of player he is etc? On a free though so not the biggest of risks, unless you're paying him 90k a week! :-/

Transfers begin to hot up. I think next week could be exciting!

Sounds like he's very talented in certain respects, but arrogant and injury prone. also sounds like he's useless with anything but his left foot.

I'm perfectly willing to give the lad a chance. He's only 25 so he's got plenty of time, but we've been burned with players wages on free transfers before, especially with certain players injury records, so I'm a little concerned about what kind of contract we may be offering.

Well if he ever questions Dalglish the manager can just pull out the old photo album. "Ye see this son? I was winning everything before you were even born. You want to win? Then do as I say or piss off."

At 25 and a free agent I'm willing to give him a chance, but anything over 50-60k a week max is foolish considering his injury record. I'd promise him an improved contract should he make enough appearences in his first season.

There is absolutely no way on earth he's getting 80k a week up here.

Probably not, but that's paper talk for you. They said we offered him 50k to stay, and if Nolan's on that it's not too much of a stretch to say Ba's probably after the same or more.

fener bid 11m pounds for lass and madrid rejected!

make an offer between 16-18m pounds and we got a deal fener (no clue if lass wants to play in turkey)

atletico get arda turan in return ... right?

is this official or just a rumor like klose to gs?

Rumour is that Hiddink is going to bring him along to Chelsea. Arda is the kind of player that would make Torres relevant again.

I think we've been in for Marveaux for a long while now. He'll be nothing more than a backup by the looks of it, but should at least give us a bit more squad depth. Hope his wages aren't on ridiculous levels like Cole, but since that deal was signed by Cecil, and FSG were angry at the size of the wage bill when they took over, I can't see them being that high.

The only issue there is, United are going to have problems in a bidding war, because we can always out bid you.

You don't have Fergie's man management skils or the alleged persuasion skills. Wait, you don't even have a manager... :P

But money talks, I will give you that.

Modric is still under contract, and realistically if Spurs are going to sell him, it's most likely going to be to who ever flashes the most cash.

Oh lawd I wish we had a manager already.

Modric might have a preference himself. It may be towards Chelsea of course, but it could be United. In general though I think United have shown they can offer big sums of money if SAF is keen enough on a player. At the end of the day your bid just has to reach a point where it is accepted. Chelsea could go to 50m, but Spurs may sell at 35m. Any successful bid for Modric may very well include Berbatov.

That report is so typical of journalism today. Nowhere do they report any actual evidence for their assumption that United are preparing to bid for Modric.

This is the main factor here, journalists seem to use anonymous sources as an excuse to write any old story.

Anonymous sources which are more than likely not sources at all. They've gotta sell papers at the end of the day, and some sensationalist story will give them the most chance of doing that.

I think the 45 million figure being bandied about is quite telling. It probably is a reference to Man City more than anything else.

Ps. United have conducted a fair bit of business with the spurs board over the last few years. So there is that side of things.

The last bit of business over Berbatov left a very sour taste (fair enough tbh we were dicks in that transfer), so if anything it could count against us. Sure Levy wouldn't let a bit of personal beef get in the way of the best deal but he could sure make it difficult.

Again all depends on how much they/Modric entertain bids and how much the bidding clubs want him. Reckon this one could be the summer long saga.

1998's was the best Mexican team I had the fortune to watch. We would have gotten to the quarter-finals had Germany not remembered that they were German during those last thirty minutes.

I can't remember much from 98 since I was 10 at the time. I remember being in Mexicali during part of the world cup and watching the final back at home.

We have direct group stage Champions League but yeah seems a bit far fetched for him to join Fener. 26 and a French international.

New fixtures released

Cue United fans saying David Bernstein has fudged them fixtures.

Manchester Derby in October and April this year. United at home first.

First game for West Ham is Cardiff at home, that one should be a cracker! Leeds is our 2nd home game too, and Millwall away on the 17th of September should be pretty heated ;)

Spurs got a really nasty opening period.

Everton H
United A
City H
Liverpool H
Arsenal H

All in the first month and a half.

I just recall for the 6 years Rafa was in charge, we were away on the opening day every time :p

I actually thought it was some sort of perk for the champions to have the first game at home.

Absolutely ridiculous decision. It is hard not to get depressed about next season and we spent $2M to get him? That could have been spent on strengthening the squad.

Oh well, I have the summer to get over it and see if he gets any transfer money to play with.

From a legal standpoint, I think it's hilarious that Villa are playing this as though McLeish was a free agent when they attempted to sign him and then go on to offer £2 million to a club who apparently aren't his employers. :lol

So as the Sanchez saga draws on here is a nice comparison for City-GAF to our current wizard, David Silva.

The stats, however, are not completely kind to the forward, as his passing accuracy is 75%, which would have made him the worst at Manchester City aside from Edin Dzeko, although the Bosnian made just 15 league appearances since arriving in January. The Chile international was also dispossessed on average 5.3 times per match – a significantly higher number than any other Serie A player from AC Milan, Inter and Lazio.

Due to City’s abundance of strikers, and Sanchez’s penchant for dribbling, the Udinese man is likely to be given a starting berth on the flank by Roberto Mancini, in a similar role to David Silva.

The Spaniard enjoyed a talismanic inaugural term in the Premier League and his 35 appearances reaped four goals and seven assists.

Silva was more influential than Sanchez in his distribution, as he recorded an average key pass count of 2.09 per game, accompanied by an accuracy of 87%. The winger’s average dispossessed count also sat far lower than the Chilean at 1.6.

On the ball, Silva’s success a dribbling was far lower than Sanchez, while the Spain international drew an average of 0.7 fouls per game. The Eastlands man was given a whoscored.com rating of 7.12 for his league performances last term, whilst scooping three man of the match awards.

Both Silva and Sanchez would offer Mancini something different next season on either wing. The Chilean would benefit from bringing his distribution to the level of the Spaniard, but the duo’s potential combination would be a potent force in Europe.

Source

Dat pace accuracy. If he shot a bit more (which is a confidence thing imo) he'd be in a different class.
