Wasn't Gill like a Director of Football, and isn't that Woodward is supposed to be?
Not really. Fergie took care of the scouting reports and made the final decision on who to sign whilst Gill handled the negotiations. A DoF will work with the manager on who to sign, but often he'll have his own preferences. He would also do the more shady stuff like dealing with agents and let the manager get down to just coaching the team. Gill and Wooders are in charge of operations and making money and will help close negotiations for players. But they don't really have much say in the footballing side of things.

Fergie did all of that at United. He was manager and DoF. Can't ever see a manager wielding that much power again after the Moyes failure.

We've been linked with him since January. Wouldn't mind him if the price is right.
Yeah Liverpool wanted him even when he was at Basle right? But if you go for Konoplyanka maybe that will be it for the wings? Dunno.

Either way, good talent. Wasting his time now, not gonna happen for him at Bayern.

Aren't they after Hazard? lol
Might not be a bad idea to raid Bayern of a player or two.

He's been hurt. Were trying to get rid of players with stupid hair not acquire them.

Ah. So he IS in the coffin with him then.

El Shaarawy has only made 4 league appearances in the league this season?

Christ.

Bit afraid there will be very little for us to go for in the summer, regardless of intent/money.

Don't think we need a formal DoF. Often leads to disagreements and conflict when the "power" is split up that way.

But it certainly makes sense to have more people at the club overseeing the sport side of things than the manager alone. I still think the manager should be the guy who dictates a lot of this - just some of it should be taken off his plate. For example, the club should have a set scouting wing who are consistently tracking players. As we are now - it was just Froggie and his old chaps watching football. I sense the academy has been handled in the same way too.

It's an old set up. We need to modernise.

@LiverpoolGAF and anyone

What's the one thing Liverpool fans would never agree to do, as punishment. (something funny not "buy the Sun" :p)

i hate you guys

im not going to post it for the third time, its degrading

For you Yurt:

We'd never burn a Liverpool shirt.
Again and again and again.

assuming Chelsea get who they need, and Man U do too etc, who do you see dropping out of the top 4 next season if any?

As Wilbur said, if you take City and Chelsea getting in because of their finanical muscle. It leaves Liverpool and Arsenal. It depends on how the season goes I guess. If Suarez got a cruciate knee injury in September we'd be screwed for quite a while, similarly if Wenger retires it'll take a while for the new manager to get up to speed.

If Liverpool got a group of death in the Champions League it could really hurt us and we'd be stretched with both the league and European football. If we came third in the European group stage we'd then have to go through some Europa League fixtures as well and they'd hurt us just like they hurt Spurs.

He's been injured the whole season. Fortunately, he played his first match with the Primavera a few days ago, so he should play another time before the season end.

What striker are you guys gonna buy?

Literally can't think of anyone now that Chelsea are having Costa.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Seems Roma, Barca and others are looking at Vertonghen. For £30m they can have him, he's had a shit season and his attitude has been terrible. Chiriches has been much better than him and if we bring Caulker back, we won't miss him.

Great numbers for Italy considering the state of the stadiums and the economy. Fuck, the gap between Serie A and B is very telling.

The lack of options frightens me.

Like, seriously. Normally various names come to mind, but even sticking on my transfer muppet hat doesn't help. Who's the Higuain/Suarez/Van Persie of this year?

Who's the top scorer in Ligue 1 that doesn't play for PSG?
Vincent Aboubakar.

I've never heard of him either.
