I maintain that the main reason is that Football just wasn't all that big in France before the 80ies. For instance: PSG was founded in 1970.

I don't know what the best league or whatever all I know is that the quality of football played in the Spanish league is so far ahead of England is just ridiculous.
Whether that would get them the results or not I don't know but it's seriously depressing when their lower level teams knock the ball around as well as the top teams in England.

And this for me, is the reason why I'd put the Spanish league above the English. I like the league we have just for the competition it generates from 1st all the way to 20th. But everything else football pales in comparison to what is being done in Spain.
