Little bit of a break, transfer windows open, some scattered Intl. games and then a pre-season tour to a different country with a bunch of exhibition games.
The players get a few weeks off during May/June, then in July they are back for training, then from then till August they play friendly games often as part of a pre-season tour of a foreign country. This year it will be different because of EURO 2012 though.
Don't forget there is Olympic international football as well this year.

Hmm, what's the most promising game to the EPL bystander (neutral fan)?
I'd want to watch QPR - Arsenal. London derby, two sides who will be desperate for the 3 points.
Is this part of that "we're not going to play every game at 3pm to make people go to the stadiums" nonsense?

Yeah they stopped Viasat showing every game because it was very easy to find streams for every single PL game.
