Just going on that picture, part of the ball may still be hanging over the goal line. It's way too close to give that anyway, especially considering the linesman's (poor) position.

I thought the rule was it has to be at least half way over? Certainly looks like most of the ball crossed the line there.

The whole of the ball needs to be over the line. It doesn't look like it is from that picture but it's certainly close.

Ah, my bad. Thanks for the correction guys. Looks dead close but can see why it wasn't given. Wonder what goal line technology would have declared in a situation like that. Got to be in/out by mm there, must be some kind of error in the technology.

Well, that was disappointing. We knew that Catania would have been dangerous at home, the defending on their goal was awful. A lot of our players are clearly tired, but Maxi and Boateng in particular should've been much better today.
Btw, Seria A badly needs some new refs. That's not because of that Robinho shot on the line, but for everything else they got wrong today. And it's not the first time this year, in every single match, for every single team there is a "major" mistake.

anyway, i definitely think the linesman was right not to give the goal, you've got to be sure and i don't think quite crossed. tough to not get all three points, but catania have been excellent recently, so oh well.
all refs make mistakes often, they're only human.

i wouldn't be surprised if he's match fit (he had mostly recovered from his most recent injury before going to the specialist i think), but he certainly won't be on the pitch for more than 15 minutes or so.

Well if there is a significant error in the technology, and the distance over the line doesn't exceed that error threshold, then you would assume the goal wouldn't be given.

i agree i don't think it was a goal after looking at it a bunch of times. i think there was a slight piece of the ball still touching the line. just goes to show our luck though.
agreed, i remember when italy had the best refs, it used to be a bragging point. this season has been embarrassing. while that linesmen may have gotten the goal decision correct, right before that he took away two clear chances from us, one which was a 100% ibra chance, for bullshit offside calls that were not even close. that guy is just terrible. he doesn't even know the rule that you can't be offside within your own half of the field, that's like the first thing they teach you.
still not as bad as EPL refs though lolz
