Holy fuck out of all the Arsenal games I had to miss, it was that one. Looking forward to Saturday, should be some goals.

Looking forward to watching highlights from tonight. Why can Villa win in the cup?! And Sunderland...

Skyfall was fucking brilliant by the way. Preferred it to Casino Royale, didn't have a third act drop off. And Bardem OH MAN.

Best thing about the film :)

You're going to hammer us. :(

We know.

Wachowskis have been shit for years.

The Matrix sequels were an abomination and Speed Racer was like a ten year olds sugar rush.

Ninja Assassin and V for Vendetta were only passable.

Nolan is a good director so I'd like to see what he could do with Star Wars.

But I'm not sure if he'd be too interested in something that isn't his original work

I want Nolan to direct the new Star Wars.

The potential for fanboy meltdowns would be off the scale.

the internet would become unbearable for years if that happened, though at least it would prevent him from ruining bond.

the only way to salvage announcing episode 7 is to give it to terrence malick.

Brad Bird for SW7.
Well, we'll obviously draw in CL, so you won't be missing much. We're basically last year's Dortmund in CL. Two things we need to do next season, if we want to make it to the, say, quarter-finals: 1) BUY THAT FUCKING STRIKER and 2) learn how to put Serie A in second place, at the cost of losing the scudetto to Napoli, Milan, Roma, whoever. Which is traditionally something we just don't know how to do. We always succumb to the pressure of the whole 'if Juve doesn't win the scudetto, the season is a failure' rhetoric.

Can't wait to see Borini wasted on the wing again!
To me, the Scudetto is the priority till we reach 32.. ;)

Coppa Italia comes next. (Ok not really, but the silver star is cool)

:lol, you gotta be trolling shitting on the Wachowskis and endorsing Nolan.

But, either way, Cloud Atlas (not even that great of a film) shits on Nolan's entire body of work from such great heights it's not even funny. And that's before we even get to the Matrix or Bound...

Malick would never in a million years be approached to do Star Wars. I wouldn't be too pleased even if he was asked.

"The Thin Red Line" and "The New World" are masterpieces. But Tree of Life is a load of pretentious nonsense.

I'm split on Malick. Sometimes he's brilliant and other times he makes indecipherable shite.

My personal shortlist for ep 7 would include people like Fincher, Mendes, and Cuaron.

Really good dramatists first, "big-budget" filmmakers second. If you wanted to go further towards the franchise-y side, I'd also add Brad Bird, the Wachowskis, maybe even Peter Jackson.

Fuck Nolan, let Tim Burton have his way with Star Wars, possibly cast Depp in all roles.

:lol true.

Damn GAF and it's Speed Racer Love/Hate. It isn't amazing, it isn't shit. It's a movie with crazy good visuals on Blu Ray and pretty entertaining. Nothing else. .....(imo)

It would be so shit. But I just really want to see more Star Wars fans meltdowns, so let it happen.

I know I want him to completely destroy it. Tim Burton is a better pick for that tho, I agree

Speedracer shits on any bond movie without Timothy Dalton

I liked the Matrix sequals. A severe drop in quality (basically turned it into an action trilogy) but still VERY enjoyable.

The first one is a masterpiece.

the terrence malick fan in me, and he's my favourite director, that wants to see him spent times on good film not held back by the trappings of some dull space opera universe is trumped by the anarchic side in me that wants to force millions of people into watching one of his films expecting lightsabers and instead getting closups of a tree on the wookie planet.

but yes of course i'm talking purely fantasy here

If Disney had any sense they'd approach Neil Blomkamp or Cuaron to direct the new Star Wars. But I agree with Yenrot. They'll give it to Verbinski and watch the $$$$ roll in.

TBH I'll still go and see the new SW, regardless of it'd quality of a movie.

As long as they don't continue the storyline of Anakin/Luke etc and just use the universe a little more, it should be okay.

Brad Bird would be a solid choice if they're recruiting from in house. Cuaron would make it look pretty and he's also a very good director.

Don't rate the Wachowskis. First Matrix is good, second one's okay, third one is shocking. Ninja Assassin is diabolical, Speed Racer is poor outside of its race scenes, but its a kids film so I'm okay with that (don't understand the following for it though) and V For Vendetta bastardises the graphic novel.

This idea that Malick is some completely anarchic and formless director is a bit of a misnomer too—he can do cut and dry filmmaking. Badlands is an incredible exercise in concise filmmaking and it's a masterpiece. Let's also not forget he wrote the Dirty Harry script (or at least an early version of it). He can be Hollywood; I imagine a Star WArs film with Malick at the helm would be a happy medium between convention and Malick-ness.

It'll never ever happen, but fun to speculate.

and srsly ppl, Cloud Atlas is great. I dunno when it comes out overseas though.

I can't watch most of the Bond movies anymore. They were great when I was a kid but they're a bit crap now.

I tried to watch Goldfinger a while ago and could only get through the first twenty minutes. Everything was so cheesy.

Badlands, haven't seen it for years but fuck that is a class film.

Didn't really like Tree Of Life. Looked sumptuous and Pitt was great, but all the parts with Sean Penn knobbing around with a face like someone'd came in his pocket made no sense to me and it was a little too fractured.

Tell you what's the most shapeless, anarchic film I've seen in a while but it's fucking excellent; Holy Motors. That is nuts and I don't know what it was about but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I wouldn't really be bothered if Lucas directed the movie.

Just keep him a million miles away from the script and he'd be fine.

They were involved enough in their production that I'd credit them with some of the responsibility for it. And yeah, out of the Matrix films there's one good one, one okay one with some solid action and one terrible one. Haven't seen Bound but I'm looking forward to Cloud Atlas.

Still fun for me, there's a knowing cheesiness about them that I can get on board with. The serious ones are always better though. From Russia With Love, License To Kill, OHMSS. QoS isn't very good, watched it yesterday again for the first time since cinema and while its good in a lot of areas conceptually, it just isn't executed well at all.

Casino Royale and Skyfall are the best Bonds.
