I don't quite understand why Bruce's wealth is something to criticise him for when he clearly has a huge hole in his soul that he can't even try to fill with money.

The Bruce Wayne side of his character could not be any less power fantasy. Nobody grows up thinking 'I wish I was a billionnaire borderline-depressive loner incapable of enjoying my wealth'
