Spiders in the film = how the protagonist views women. He has a deep fear of commitment. Spiders catch their prey, he feels trapped in their net / his marriage etc. ... He longs to squash them - remember the sequence in the sex club, how he was watching that woman squash the spider. That's what he wants. To break free from any responsibility. At the end, he manages to purge himself of his other self, the unfaithful Jake, the one who can't control his urges. But at the first sign of temptation, the key to the sex club, he goes back to the narcissistic portion of himself. That's who his wife - the spider sees at the end and backs up in fear of getting squashed by spider-killer Jake.

What an episode. What a show!
Was not expecting it to start like that, all the acting was top notch. Tom Burke was brilliant.
The only thing that didn't sit quite right with me was
using the deaths of real politicians. I think when that person is likely to have surviving family, it is a bit shitty.
Everyone should watch this show, deals with one of the most important issues facing humanity which is somehow ignored. Even though pretty much every major issue links back to it. And why globalisation, and shit like the EU's freedom of movement is completely fucking insane.

I didn't find it boring; on the contrary the events of the film were fairly interesting.
What I found to be the problem was the film's terrible grasp of tone and character. The film seemed constantly confused between being a fun, ocean's eleven style crime caper and a more serious look at the true story of 2 con artists in an FBI operation. In the end it just flopped in the middle, not only leading to an inconsistent tone but also leaving the film with it's "heroes" being 2 reprehensible cunts with zero redeeming features. I mean, the ending,
the triumph of Bale and Adams over the FBI guy is presented as some applause worthy event for people to cheer along with, yet if you take more than a second to think about it you realise it's a disgraceful moment that only works because the FBI guy himself is a douche. Then the 2 con artists get their happy ending and you just think 'why'? They don't deserve this and it shouldn't bring the viewer any pleasure either.

Agree...not sure what the big deal was with it.
Every single one of those movies is middling and unspectacular. Gangs of New York was good not for Scorsese but for the production and Daniel Day Lewis. Only Casino is worthy of mention.
