Imagine Sterling if he had the finishing ability of prime Messi

He has to play in whatever position is best for him, and the team will have to be adjusted around that

spatial talons

I see Sterling and Hendo scored.

I can't wait to see these kids in the CL. Hopefully both will make a name for themselves this year (worldwide)

Lads was this the best friendly of all time? That was thoroughly entertaining.

Sterling needs a new contract with a massive release clause if he doesn't have one already. Was impressed by Coates but all of our fullbacks can fuck right off. Pay for Moreno!

Or a contract with no release clause.

Also Coates needs to stay.

Yes(kind of) and yes

If needs be, put a massive £80m+* release clause in. If he wants to be that good that someone activates it, he can be. Basically saying to him 'you can leave at any time if you become the player you're capable of becoming'

*Realistic imo considering the ever increasing transfer fees at the top

Hotcher, let's carry these avatars until the end of the season?

Although I'm almost changing mine to Sterling too

what Liverpool player would be dumb enough to put in a release clause when they know their owners will just ignore it?

what do you mean? If you have a release clause in your contract then any buy who offers that money can buy the player (if he wants to leave) the club can't stop him.

If our owners just ignored it why did Gordon Taylor tell the media that there was no such release clause that we had to sell him last year?

Well...

Liverpool owner John W. Henry has sensationally claimed that Luis Suarez did have a £40million release clause in his contract last summer, but the club simply refused to sell to Arsenal anyway.

The Gunners made their infamous £40m plus £1 bid after being tipped off the Reds would be forced to accept all offers over £40m for Suarez, but Henry held firm.

Arsenal, and Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, eventually accepted there had been confusion over what the clause entitled them to – with Liverpool insisting they just needed to inform the player of all offers over £40m.

But Henry has now seemingly admitted that the Reds simply refused to be held to ransom over the player’s contract after being burnt in the Fernando Torres deal.

Speaking at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference over the weekend, Henry said, when asked how Suarez was potentially key to Liverpool’s future plans: ‘Luis Suarez is the top scorer in the English Premier League, which is arguably the top soccer league in the world.

‘He had a buyout clause of £40m. Arsenal, one of our prime rivals – this year we’re tied for second … we’re actually second because of goal difference.

‘They offered £40m plus £1. What we’ve found … is that contracts don’t seem to mean a lot in England – actually, in world football.

‘It doesn’t matter how long a player’s contract is, he can decide he’s leaving.

‘We sold a player, Fernando Torres, for £50m, that we did not want to sell, we were forced to.

‘Since apparently these contracts don’t seem to hold, we took the position that we’re just not selling.

‘It’s been great for Luis, it’s been great for us.

‘We have three gentlemen up front Suarez/Sterling/Sturridge, [they] are young, I think Luis and those three could be together for a long time.’

See also Konoplyanka to Liverpool, where the Dnipro president just refused to sign the paperwork despite Liverpool meeting the release clause lol

Gordon Taylor, Chief Executive of PFA

Taylor had earlier been critical of the use of 'buy-out clauses' in player contracts.

He said: "It is a delicate situation and we are trying to help.

"These buy-out clauses have caused no end of problems in the past and they continue to do so because of the way they were drafted at the time.

"He [Suarez] believes the £40million amount that is mentioned, if that is offered that gives him the right to go.

"Liverpool, from their side, are saying that is a minimum figure from which they will consider negotiation and of course they will want to keep the player, unless they replace the player with someone as good or better, which is not going to be easy in a short period of time.

"We have been asked to try and help to sort the situation out and we have been trying to do that."

Taylor later told the Press Association the contract does NOT oblige Liverpool to sell Suarez:

"If you are going to have a supposed buy-out clause it should be that, but it is different as it says if there is no qualification for the Champions League [by Liverpool] and if there is a minimum offer of £40million then the parties will get around the table to discuss things but it does not say the club has to sell.

"It quite clearly states £40million is a minimum offer for discussions, but it becomes really difficult with such clauses.

Henry was either simplifying it for the current audience or attempting to wind up arsenal, either way there was no obligation to sell

That's a very weird thing to do by Henry. But didn't they even refuse to discuss it? haha

Sure, but that is not going to be resolved quickly.

Perhaps but Henry certainly isn't shy of winding them up. I'm sure they said okay we're here to discuss it and the answer is no.

It was a cock up by Suarez's agent or whoever had him sign that contract and played beautifully by Liverpool.

Suarez sued he's club prior to Ajax didn't he? Begins with a G
