Not any time soon.
Firstly, we need better recruitment across the board. And we need to make a couple of Suarez-type signings, players who are willing to join us as they haven't quite proved themself in one of the major leagues, and then quickly goes on to become an unstoppable beast. I don't think anyone saw Surez becoming as good as he has done aside from maybe Ajax fans.
And honestly, for it to happen within the next 5 or so years, we'd need to luck out a bit and have a great season which coincides with 2 or 3 of the other big guns underwhelming to some degree.
Depends what you mean. I don't feel any antipathy towards him for it, because he's given us everything. And its not like he got sent off for punching someone, it was a mistake. He'll never live it down in his own head though, and that kills me tbh. Winning just one league title for us would have meant a hell of a lot to me and other LFC fans, it would have meant everything to him.
He's had a great career if not as good as it would have been if he'd left us, but winning the league title would have basically completed his career, and he'd have retired with no regrets about his decisions to stay here when others were offering him guaranteed titles. Winning it all with your boyhood club has got to be what every aspiring footballer dreams about, and he robbed himself of that chance. No matter how much he earns, that must be soul-destroying.
He'll probably always be my favourite player, but being the guy who sticks with the club no matter what, and then plays a major role in our first league title for 24 years would have been perfect tbh. Of all players to make the error which causes our season to implode, it had to be him. Football is fucking cruel sometimes.
And really, if a single Liverpool fan looks back on him overall as 'the guy who lost us the league', they're an absolute cunt unfit to call themself a fan. He's on a very steep decline and was the flashpoint that led to us falling apart last year, but its been a privelege to have him play for us. For over a decade, his standard has been well above our own. During that stretch, we've only once had a team which was undoubtedly of the quality he deserved to play with, in 08/09.
I want someone as loyal as he is in United again.
Giggs, Scholes, Cantona. Legends.
Meh. I'm probably just depressed because it seems like we will really lose De Gea next season.
