Heck, in the 80s there was a comic plot where a superhero gets kidnapped, brainwashed, raped and subsequently gets pregnant, yet everyone was fine with it (and she decided to stay with her rapist). Additionally, rape and sexual abuse are still treated very differently in society from murder (see e.g. victim blaming). I could see why someone might find the term rape more inappropriate/insensitive.
