Hey dc, did you see that story that City sell more shirts in Stockport than they do in Manchester?

What's that about?

I don't know how any shirts are sold in Stockport seeing as around 30% of the shops in the town centre are boarded up.

For what it's worth, I found out a little more about what this was in reference to and those figures were based on sales from SportsDirect. I bought a City shirt from one in London when I visited a few years back!

Not the thread, but how do you guys feel about the RFU essentially telling players that if they go to play their rugby abroad, they'll be dropped from the England squad?

that's my understanding of it anyway

Ushojax

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Good result tonight, United played extremely well. Hopefully Chadli will be back for the second leg, we didn't have the right balance up front with Kane floating around.

"Not the thread." lool
Hitch?, pls. We talk about anything from TV shows to porn. I think we can manage rugby.

Seems daft to me.

I blame Ade. I always do. He upsets the balance. Please sell him, Usho. Bring me Ings.

It's a necessary policy. Rugby is the opposite of football in regards to club vs country. Playing for your national side is the most important thing to players and the games are played at a faster pace and higher intensity than club matches.

But with the French clubs offering more and more money to quality internationals, a talent drain of a country is possible of measures aren't put in place. They're relying on the desire of players to play international rugby. New Zealand and Australia do the same thing. If you're not playing your rugby domestically then you're not in contention for the test side.

I can see why they do it, English clubs can't afford to pay the wages other countries can so they need to keep the players here somehow.

It's been like that for years. Other nations do it as well like NZ. Not sure in the exact reasons, but I think it's due to control and forcing clubs to release the players for international games. Also rugby doesn't have the resources like football to keep track on players in foreign leagues.

Forget what I said then. Had no idea.

There's also a salary cap in place for the English clubs. Their wage budget for goreign players is capped to ensure they don't have too many in the squads. It's all about ensuring theres a decent production line of good young English players coming through.

The French international side is in the doldrums because their top clubs have vast budgets and no restrictions on foreign signings. Their sides are littered with expensive imports and their young, home grown talent arent getting games because of it. The national team suffers because there isn't the depth there once was. With France's tradition in rugby and their population base they should be walking the 6 Nations every year. Instead they're the weakest they've been in a decade squad wise. Still a decent starting side tho.

Yeah the french domestic league has caused real problems both for themselves and in Britain/Ireland. The incompetence of the Welsh Rugby Union has also meant that our domestic league is fucked. The merging of clubs was a mistake (Swansea and Neath being a big one.) The ospreys maybe a strong team but there were days when neath, Swansea and Llanelli were true world beaters and churned out talent.
Of course you are right about france. They really should be pumping out top draw players at a rate that would make New Zealand envious. They never really have though and the situation is only going to get worse for them.
As for Wales and Ireland well we both seem to be trundling along okay. It's probably going to be between us for the six nations. Maybe England but it's hard to tell just how good they are.

Think I'm getting a ticket for the second leg. Go on sale tomorrow, mate is sorting.

£25.

Top, that. Throw in £15 for three pints and I'm laughing.

There's so much that can go right or wrong with a player's development between the ages of 16 - 22 that joining an abyss of youth talent like Real Madrid and them subsequently paying such a huge sum of money is absurd.

Nonsense all round.
