Luckily for Liverpool there was no Gerrard to give the ball to Zlatan and they got away with Karius being a mess.
Ferguson used to play defensively at Anfield as well. Not to that extent where they didn't even bother to attack for the most part, but he did always play more cautiously.

Ferguson did that loads of time throughout his career especially in his latter years as manager. Roll into a big away game stick in an extra midfielder and defend with your life. One of our greatest ever victories was based on defensive solidity. We beat Barca 0-1 at the Camp Nou in the CL semi finals displaying zero attacking threat.

You bet he would have been. I love how Mou is trying to dampen expectations, on one hand you spend insane money, bring the likes of Mikh, Pogba, Zlatan and then proceed to play that away & proclaim that that point is good? Whatever.
He looked a bit nervy on a couple of occasions last night, but Karius was far from being a mess. Seems Neville & Tyler have been passing their kool aid here too.

Like it or not as a Man Utd fan with the form Liverpool are in they were favourites. If Zlatan had scored that header which he really should have then it would have been a good grinded result.
I think we need January to offload some dead weight and then Mourinho will stop being so uncertain of his best lineup. At least Rooney is experiencing what it is like to be dropped for poor form for once. As has been the issue the last few seasons we have too many players who play the same position. Pogba coming in who has disappointed a little, but is a talent nonetheless, was yet ANOTHER central midfielder.
Fergie was spanked a few times by the top clubs. It wasn't always roses every time we played them. The real importance of Fergies era was winning every single game against lesser opponents. That's my biggest criticism of Mou and the players this season, for example that 1-1 draw before the international break was unforgivable. However look at Citys last two games. The premier league has so many ups and downs armchair pundits calling the season over or the season almost sorted out already are mental.
The first real big indicator is how teams manage when getting through the Christmas spell.

Would've liked a victory yesterday. But could be a decent point if we beat West Brom at the weekend.
Getting a 0-0 draw at Anfield isn't a masterclass unless you're fucking Middlesbrough. If that's how United have got to play just to not lose 4-0 then they have issues. Last night's game was there for the taking and had it been any other manager in charge, even LVG, Utd would've won. Form counts for nothing in those games and Utd have a stellar record at Anfield.

We do have issues, it's just in this day and age going to that game last night at Anfield had us pegged as favorites to lose. Liverpool are in great form, we are not.
Liverpool have recently humped Leicester, beat Chelsea and not too long ago beat Arsenal. I think any Man Utd fan would take a draw away from home against Liverpool than getting beat and having to chalk it up to being an away game and "we'll get them back at Old Trafford!".
It seems to be Liverpool fans frustration to blame Man Utd rather than to say we should probably have managed to beat this Man Utd team on their current form at home. Sure we played typical Mou to frustrate but Liverpool didn't exactly play as good as they should. Especially in the first half when they were diabolical.

I think it's more the fact that you finished 6 points ahead of us last season, signed Mourinho, spent £140m or whatever in the summer, signed Pogba and Ibra, and treated it as a foregone conclusion that you'd get beat if you actually came to play football. A 0-0 at Anfield is never a bad result for away teams but context is important here.

But it was blindingly obvious after 10 minutes that we were a bit of a mess, and wouldn't have been posing much of a threat even if Man Utd committed an extra player to attack.
On the one hand its frustrating to drop 2 points, on the other we were somewhat let off the hook for our non-performance.
