He was a good tone setter in the first half of the season, his work rate standing out amongst the crowd whilst Lambert was still trying to find a natural formation for us, although he was at fault defensively a couple of times.

Once January came around and we settled in to a 4-3-3 he doesn't really fit any more. He doesn't have the physicality or calmness on the ball to be one of the central trio and lacks the dynamism to knock Agbonlahor or Weimann out of the side.

Now he's a good squad player who we can call upon to close a game out, but not if we're chasing a game. Unfortunately for him we've been doing a lot of chasing recently so his skillset hasn't really seen him as someone to turn to from the bench.
