Why even get into those threads during the events? Why is there a need to exchange/trade this instant information when your children/relatives are not involved? Why express regret and sorrow when the people who are suffering from this can't possibly read it?
Who are you talking to? Is it just so that people can feel good about themselves despite the events?
I sometimes feel like there's some sort of disaster porn going on where people come in and count the victims, "ONE MORE VICTIM REPORTED!" and feel sorry just to have emotional spikes of some sort.
It's all an illusion, it's far away. If you lived a century ago, chances are, you'd probably never even hear about stuff like this occurring if you didn't live in America (which Meus doesn't).
Even when artists die you have some sort of a stake there as you might have expected to hear/read some more of their works, but these are just regular people, miles upon miles away from you. Why is there a need to process such events publicly?
I wouldn't dare to post all this in the said thread as I don't really know if someone in there is actually, really affected by this.
Post-event analysis is, of course, a different story and if you live close by (and maybe have kids of your own) I can understand the sudden need for communication, consolation, etc.
Welp, back to professional sports (/football). An utterly pointless source of entertainment for the masses to distract them from their shitty lives (unlike those of most professional football players) and satisfy their need to beat a neighboring city or country :|
