For those who refuse to game on a PC, what holds you back?

I don't get how being able to tweak performance on pc is a negative, look at the PS4 pro threads of people wishing they can tweak the resolution/frame rate but they can't

For me it's time consumption and lack of friends who game.
Working all the time barely allows me time to play games at all and when I do I just want it to be a pretty instant "turn the machine on and ready to go" situation. The costs and time involved in constructing, maintaining and updating a decent PC set-up is just not possible for me at this stage in my life. I think that's the big sticking point for most people. The other big thing is the exclusive titles. I love consoles for their exclusives and while PC does have a couple they aren't to my tastes for the most part.
My final sticking point is I don't have other people to play alongside. The one thing I'd love the PC for is for the modified games like GMOD etc and playing them with friends in stupid games or competitively.

because it's only good when console has it, obviously

Or different people have different priorities, regardless of platform.

Generalizing helps no-one.

Just today we have threads about how screwed up the Resident Evil 7 port is, along with another one for Nvidia drivers that are intended to help RE7, but break a bunch of other stuff.

It's just one game, but this sort of thing happens too frequently on PC.

Unfortunately, with a PC, you'll only be able to output LPCM 5.1. So if your receiver supports PCM 5.1, you're good.

Yeah the receiver does support PCM 5.1.

But yeah, first thing is I don't have space for a tower PC to the left and right of the TV unit in my gaming room, it would have to be a sideways unit / console like which goes on one of the glass shelves. I would definitely not have a PC in the family living room, that would look terrible (and once again no space for a tower unit near the TV). The living room currently has a 65inch Samsung JS9500, SkyQ box, AV Receiver, Monitor Audio Bronze 5.1 system and an Xbox One S (mainly for Blu-rays, but have a few games I want to play on it).

Unfortunately the desk in my bedroom is fairly small, and not really for PC gaming, I currently have the tower unit on the floor and not that much space on the desk itself. That rig is quite old now and would love to refresh it with a new water cooled system. But the desk would need re-adjusting / made bigger.

Currently just got home from work, sat back on the couch and playing more of Catherine on the PS3 :) it's just so relaxing to get into a console once home from a job where you're at a desk on the PC all day long.

So I think my main option would be to get something like a Corsair Bulldog which could be horizontally placed on the glass shelf in the TV unit (in the gaming room) and hooked up to the AV receiver. The problem with the Lapdog is I'd still have wires running from the machine to the couch, but it's not that bad I guess hmm.

That looks big. Have you considered going with a Silverstone Raven Z with a mini-ITX board? It's much closer to a console in size. Here's what it looks like with an Xbox 360 on top.

I'm still rocking an Alienware X51 with a GTX 1060 in it which will play pretty much almost any current game with everything maxed out at 1080p60. That thing since on my shelf next to the rest of the consoles and is amazingly quiet. Certainly more quiet than my PS4.

You might consider one of those if they're still available and swap in a good GPU into it.

I just own so many game consoles and have always gamed on console. Majority of my favorite series only have select titles on PC or just aren't on PC at all (SMT/Persona, Yakuza, Metal Gear, Nintendo games, etc). While a lot of game series I love are starting to make the switch, there just isn't enough of a library of games I care about there.

Until more Japanese developers start to make PC ports, you won't ever see me upgrade I don't think.

Again?

-more friends online on console.

-exclusives

-PC still has technical issues and can be annoying to fiddle with, no matter how much you deny it.

-can be a cheaper solution. I got my ls4 used with a tv for less than 300 dollars. Game with a bunch of games. Nobody in their right mind buys a used PC.

That's also an option worth considering that I will keep in mind :) Thanks for the heads up.

I also do have the urge to play some big RPG titles like The Witcher 3, some FPS games and few Steam titles on a higher spec PC than consoles.

I feel like i have seen these treads so often its getting embarrassing.
If there something i want to do, its to take my gaming hobby to next level.lol
Play on what ever that fuck you want, i don't understand why anyone is losing sleep over other peoples decisions on what they play games on.

Graphics have now reached that point where they cannot go that much further, I don't have a 4K TV and I don't intend to replace my current 50" plasma until it dies.

That is not even close to be true, there is so much to improve still and then there is fps too to have high enough with those max graphics.

I still see alot mentioning a couch, I simply have an hdmi running from my Pc to my receiver and game on my cozy chair with my ps4 controller. I mean it simply doesn't get any more consoleish than that.

Out of curiously, say you want to jump into a game once you get home, is your workflow as follows:

1) Turn on PC at front.
2) Have a keyboard/mouse attached and Login, then start the game up wherever it is.
3) Sit back on your couch, turn on PS4 controller.
4) Start gaming as normal until you're finished playing for that time and turn off via the controller?

you can set up your pc so it wakes up from USB or LAN activity , pressing the ps button brings up steam big picture mode, don't need kb/m, really it's that simple

This sounds dumb as hell but ..... there are no good controller options for PC. I've tried the whole USB wireless dangle to get my PS4, and the last time I installed the PS4 controller application for PC it screwed up my windows sound drivers somehow.

I want to use my PS4 controller wirelessly. Plus I don't see any exclusives I HAVE to own on PC. Every time I go to the Steam store I look at the games and nothing grabs me.

I'm interested in games like Horizon :Zero Dawn, the new God of War, The Last Guardian, zelda:botw, and new Mario.

Look at the games on Steams front page , Most are available on consoles, or they are indies/Sims which aren't my thing. It's hard to justify spending $300 on a graphics card to play games that either don't justify it or I can already play on my PS4 pro which was about a $100 upgrade after trading in my old ps4.

I can't even remember the last PC exclusive that made me want to upgrade my PC. Things like having better graphics for games I'm going to play on my 4k TV would require like a 600 - 800 dollar investment, in which case it's not something I need.

Also even when I did play a few games on my PC it still wasn't as plug and play as PC gamers like to think. It's still updating drivers, and they don't always work the way you want

The bolded part makes precisely 0% sense. What on earth do you mean by that? Why wouldn't someone buy a PC or parts used? That's a great way to save money.

Nobody is losing sleep, it's simple conversation. Quit being dramatic

God this board makes me wonder sometimes when it comes to simple questions meant for a decent conversation.

That's great to know! Brilliant. Definitely considering a long overdue PC upgrade this year, and thinking I may hook it up to a TV. Either that or separate out consoles with a 4K TV and a PC with a decent PC monitor. Do love gaming on the big screen though with a 5.1 setup.
Cheers for the reply.

I sit at a desk with two monitors for work all day, in a crappy office chair, too close to the screen cuz my eyes suck which gives me a headache. The last thing i want to do when i get home is repeat all 3 when trying to game and relax.

Haha that's the problem I have too (apart from the eyes bit). When I'm home from that I just want a relaxing position and environment to game in.

Why not? Mine wakes up with any USB activity including controller .

What controller do you use? Because you definitely can't with an Xbox 360 controller and it was discussed earlier how it's not possible. I also believe you can't do it with a Dual Shock 4 either, as I couldn't get that to work in the past as well.

For me it's the following:

I like physical games - I buy and sell a lot of used games, which isn't really done on PC.

Convenience - my consoles are under the TV and connected to it. I don't want to have to position the computer near the TV and hook it up.

Force of habit.

I suppose force of habit is probably the main reason. I use Steam for some games which aren't well-represented on consoles, like real-time strategy games, but 99% of my play is on console or handheld.

All of my friends have consoles. Honestly I don't even have a single friend who mainly games on their PC over PS4/XO. Also the console exclusives are pretty awesome.

Yea, my ds4 works perfectly with my Pc. Same with my 360 controller. Absolutely love using my ds4 tho with it

You can use DS2, DS3, DS4, X360, X1, Wii and WiiU controllers on PC. Not to mention SteamCon and bloody mouse+kb. Saying there are no good controller options on PC is just ignorant AF.

Just putting it out there ;)

Just a second ago those two threads, a second Nvidia driver thread and a don't buy Resident Evil 7 on PC if you plan to play on an HDR TV thread were all on the front page.

But saying you don't want to be hassled with technical issues is somehow perpetuating PC myths.

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is get on my PC because I need to check emails, and work stuff. And since I'm already in position to be on my PC, it's just a natural transition. Same thing I do when I get home too. I'm always in my chair in front of my PC much more than just sitting on a couch or sofa, so chances are, I'll be in better position to just start up a game on the PC than switching over to a console. Also, my PC is always on, so I don't have the turn on PC part. ;D

The excuse on top of that is, that's not the norm. That's just that one game that's problematic. It's like any one of those issues might be minor, but when you add them all up in aggregate, it's annoying in general.

I also have shortcuts on my desktop, games run on a dedicated SSD drive, and use autohotkey to navigate menus and set up controller/keyboard/mouse profiles, so it's basically 1 click to get into the game with all settings (controller, GPU fan profile, game notes/maps/faqs).

I don't have to swap discs or nothing. I also use autohotkey to close games and all related windows (game notes etc) so it's back to normal. It's so streamlined I don't think I could ever go back to console. But when I think about it, it's not just convenience and quality of life improvement, it's necessary, especially for MOBA's.

Yea plenty of choices. I always rolled with the 360 controller til I could use ds4 and It'd wonderful

Unfortunately the pc exclusives lack the mass appeal of console exclusives, so they are often overlooked.

I don't like that this perception is generally seen as being true, or okay. It makes me feel like some people have the idea that "AAA graphics = mass appeal", and that it's okay to handwave away the PC's extended library and exclusives as as though they're not relevant to consumers in the same way that console exclusives are... despite that the lions share of the most successful and most played games on the planet are either PC exclusive or exclusive to mobile platforms.

The latest driver driver stuff seems to be a non issue for most people. Anyway, some people blow the problems out of proportion, that's when they are perpetuating PC myths. Yet again, personal computers are used for thousands of different purposes and have thousands of different configurations. Of course there will be more problems than with your closed platform box. I just think that it's silly to try scare people away from experiencing games on certain platform. Not saying that you are but there has been some of that weird tribalism evident in this thread.

That being said, a lot of great information has been passed around in this thread.
