Foreign leaders told to praise Trump on election win

It's good that you won the election! It's very good!

Oh my god

This is exactly right

Why have I never thought of this

Like... do ya'll from the states just sit back sometimes and think "This literal idiot, figurative child is the president of my country".

It's still weird to me. It sort of went past funny and now I just wonder how hard it must be to be a politician in ANY country and have to deal with him.

Every. Single. Fucking. Day.

It's embarrassing.

How his supporters have the illusion that he is a strong leader is beyond me.

They see demands like this and treat it like a power play--foreign dignitaries have to compliment his win not because he's a thinskinned manchild with zero coping skills, but because he's establishing dominance. Keep things brief to not waste his precious time. Don't expect him to go out of his way to learn your unimportant history, etc. They like that he expects the world to adapt to him, instead of him being a weak liberal and trying to educate himself.

Those people confuse "strong" with saying offensive things that the "libtards" don't want to hear because they're too PC.

Usually followed by a "MAGA" or somthing something America/something something snowflakes.

Edit: Also forgot, "he's rich so he did something right" completely ignoring he was born into that wealth and bailed out everytime his businesses failed.

It sucks for Americans, but if my country gets amazing trade agreements or other diplomatic concessions out of it, how would I lose out?

I'm not American either, and if my president somehow manages to convince him (being a blonde, slavic female she shouldn't have much issue) of a great trade deal I won't complain either.

But it's sad and depressing to see the leadership of a country go so low.

President Snowflake.

It's going to take years to repair our global reputation, assuming that's even possible at all.

not really, it's a smart play if you want something from Trump
It makes sense. If being patronizing to Asshole Ralph Wiggum for about a day would get your country millions in benefits, you fucking bet that any smart world leader would do that. It benefits your country way more than any self-satisfaction you'd get from trolling him instead.

Just take a shower afterwards.

Well, Trump appears to be one of the easiest world leaders to manipulate in a very long time, but we already knew that he was going to be terrible. It's pretty exciting to see what depths he's going to descend to though.

This. Guy knows nothing, is emotionally and intellectually moronic, and needs constant affirmation like a needy child. His 'success' comes from bullying.

Great stuff on the world stage.
That's partly it. The other part is that Trump places very little value on American policy positions or even the country getting a good deal. It's more important that he personally benefits, and a bunch of flattery seems to be all the benefit he really needs.

There's a reason China and Russia have been pushing so hard for face to face meetings, he is so easily manipulated, his limited intellectual capacity will not serve the US well. Other leaders are literally rubbing their hands right now in preparation for the improved deals everyone is going to make off USA's moron president. xD

You're fucked. Congrats on electing a dumbass... and thank you. :lol

Of course, they completely miss the point that foreign leaders aren't doing this to show reverence, or show submission, they're doing it so they can easily get on his good side and manipulate him into giving them whatever they want.

The original article over The New York Times is a lot more damning. It's actually borderline scary.

For Mr. Trump, personal interaction and chemistry matter.

“He immediately wants to make people feel comfortable,” said Dina Kawar, the ambassador from Jordan, whose King Abdullah has met with Mr. Trump in person twice since the inauguration. “The president listens a lot.”

...

It helps to establish a family connection. Mr. Netanyahu has emphasized his relationship with Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, going back to when the young man was a child. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada took the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump to “Come From Away,” a Broadway show about Canadians who helped Americans stranded after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Ms. Merkel invited Ms. Trump to Germany to join a panel on women’s entrepreneurship.

Ms. Merkel has also learned the value of simply staying in touch. While her meeting at the White House with Mr. Trump included an awkward photo opportunity that suggested coolness, she has kept in regular contact. When she planned to travel to Saudi Arabia last month, she called Mr. Trump first, ostensibly to ask his advice — counsel that after 12 years in office she hardly needed from a diplomatic novice.

He's not easily influenced. He's borderline pliable. And foreign leaders are taking advantage of it.

Merkel has a hand for these people(she's also pretty close to vlad from a western perspective). No wonder she and Donald are speaking on the phone every 2-3 weeks.
With Ivankas trip to Berlin and Trump calling her for some useless state election(who needs the saarland) i wonder if they don't notice they're being taken advantage of

I'd rather see a foreign leader do the complete opposite just to make Trump look like the most incompetent man in the room.

I want this to happen so much. He needs to be embarrassed to the point even his most hardened supporters will cringe a little.

Might as well have foreign officials offer trump orange slices, a forced "great job👍" remark and give him a medal for his shitastic presidency so far.

How could we fall so far from Obama? I think this country secretly hates itself.
Conservative media had eight years to convince the dimmest bulbs of society that everything was actually terrible despite all the evidence to the contrary.

It's amazing that we went from one of the worst presidents in American history to one of the best to the one who will certainly prove to be the absolute worst the country has ever had.

America was a mistake.

Remember Clinton.
Good -> Bad -> Good -> Shit

I think American voters just have a thing for self-flagellation. "It's working great at the moment? Fuck it, we vote for the dumbest dipshit who wants to be the next President."

"Please butter up our insecure baby of a president, we haven't managed to replace the nuclear codes with a sudoku puzzle yet, and there's only so much ice cream in the kitchens :("

The frustrating thing is we shouldn't even have to wait for a conclusion from the Russia investigations. This guy sounds like a 25th Amendment case.

He's unable to fully discharge the powers of the presidency. He's not up to the task. If you don't have an attention span longer than a couple minutes, you're not up to the task of being president. If you can't remember the basic geopolitical details of major countries, you're not up to the task of being president.
