Formula 1 2017 Season |OT2| A Dutch Horror Story - Sundays on Sky

Can they start penalizing teams for holding back in practice? It's the worst.

They don't hold back as such. It's more about not turning the engine up to the point where it'll explode after 2-3 laps at maximum power. Literally no point in practice.

They can accurately predict their quali pace if they get the handling sorted on Friday.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
Why do drivers go out again even though they're comfortably in the clear so often?

If it’s Q2 then it’s to try and do a lap that’s nicer on their race tyres, albeit faster.

They should change the penalty system for engines so you don’t take the penalities in the same weekend you trigger them. Otherwise its too easy if you have an issue like Hamilton did, and Vettel does, to put in a few new engines and take a 30 place penalty as you’re at the back of the grid already. Effectively it is no penalty.

Couple of options I can think of
- bank the penalties and apply going forward where possible. So if you’re already at the back of the grid, they’re kept for the next race and applied there. So eg for Vettel any grid penalties wouldn’t apply here, but if he is on pole next weekend they would then push him back.
- use time penalties if you are at the back of the grid - eg instead of a 5 place grid penalty, apply a 5 second penalty (starting from pit, hold them for that amount of time after the starting grid has pulled past)

Post 535.

You really are a fun addition to this thread.

The gap they showed in FP1 and FP2 wouldn't have been closed by using their qualy engine mode. That big gap was not there this morning, which was AFTER I made that post. And considering Kimi's pace, Vettel would have been on pole here.

Aiii

So not worth it
Really wondering what's going on with Bottas. 7 tenths? The fuck?

To be fair to Bottas, he is still driving in a car made for Lewis (and maybe Nico). Next year is the year where I would look to see if he can get on proper pace.

On the live timing, Bottas was fine in S1 / S3 - literally within a tenth of his teammate.

All the time was lost in sector 2, so it was either a mistake or his car really isn't hooked up.

Bottas started out the season solid, but he's been slipping.
Hamilton started delivering some of his best in the middle of the season and then turned it op to incredible after the summer break. Nobody can really hang with that.
