Fortunately, the next Silent Hill games won't follow SHf's formula.

Silent Hill f has shipped over 1 million units in just one day after launch, becoming the fastest-selling title in Konami's psychological horror series. Critical reception has been just as strong, with the title earning a review score on par with last year's Silent Hill 2 remake. Amidst the game's success, series producer Motoi Okamoto recently commented on what players can expect from future entries.

Talking to IGN Japan at TGS 2025, Okamoto says (starting from the 3:01:00 mark) that given the game's numerous "challenging" elements, he'd thought that reactions to Silent Hill f would be far more divided, but reception ended up being positive beyond his expectations. On the other hand, he notes, "Of course, that doesn't mean every future Silent Hill will be like Silent Hill f. Each one will have its own distinct flavor. We want to keep experimenting and be ambitious, both in terms of gameplay design and storytelling, so please look forward to the next Silent Hill as well."

Okamoto followed up on this statement via X, adding that he'd like to be bold with the series and offer a different kind of gameplay with each installment. On the other hand, he stresses that some Silent Hill traditions aren't meant to be broken – namely, the quality of the storytelling. "I believe psychological stories are essential to what makes Silent Hill feel like 'Silent Hill,' and we'll continue to place great importance on that in future works as well."

Hopefully the next title takes place in Silent Hill actually.
Being in silent hill swinging with my asthma ass for 2 seconds doesn't make the game better lol.

I found every aspect of silent hill f to be good to great but the combat made it so I don't want to play NG+. It's serviceable for one playthrough. Also, the story conclusion for the true ending was meh to me.

So they can improve a more cohesive and rewarding story conclusion and refine combat that isn't mindless or janky.

The atmosphere, world design, enemy design, sound, etc were all fantastic.

Was the "Fortunately" really necessary? All it triggers are heated discussions about preferences and tastes.

I really like SHf and would love to see more titles of this kind. But I also think it's good that the developers want to experiment a bit with future titles.

Ya'll complain about how everything's the same and no one takes risks and then bitch when someone tries to do something different.

Literally impossible to please.

He's saying that because the next Silent Hill is probably Townfall, which seems to be shaping up to be a very different kind of Silent Hill experience.

Rest assured, the success and popularity of Silent Hill f will be influential to the series for years to come. 😉
Silent Hill 1-3 will forever be the only good games in the series.
Only the original creators understood the franchise.
We have 25 years of proof at this point.
Accept it.
I 100% agreed until last Tuesday when NeoBards proved they understood the assignment and blew away my expectations.

Silent Hill is finally back, baby!

I loved RE 1-3. I also love RE4 and RE7. I'm open minded toward experimenting, but if a shake up doesn't land with me I'm allowed to not like it.

SHf has annoying combat, and got probably 1/6th of the horror that the originals and SH2R had. Maybe Townfall will vibe with me better, but this game didn't.

Silent Hill is finally back, baby!

It was back when SH2R came out last year and was the first critically and financially successful Silent Hill game in two decades.

Silent Hill 4 took lots of risks. Yet it still felt like a Silent Hill game.

Not to mention it was heavily criticized for stuff f easily gets away with, because "muh gender oppression".

Retarded title, what happens when the "experimenting" doesn't go the way you want in future titles lol. Love f, love SH2R, SH1 is my fave, I'm down with whatever they do next, Silent Hill is back 👌

Same actually. Only difference is Bloober self-published Cronos.
f wasn't made by Bloober.

I'm not saying it's a bad game; just that it could've worked perfectly fine as a standalone title. Honestly, if it had come out under a different name, no one would be asking, 'Wait, why isn't this called Silent Hill?'

This. Though RE4 and RE7 are different, they are still unmistakably Resident Evil games. They have so much of the DNA that began with RE1 instilled in them.

Silent Hill F really could've been called Siren, or anything else, and nobody would've blinked.

That's good. But I hope eventually they make something similar and hopefully improve the combat. It's the closest thing we ever had to Kuon.

Or even better... I hope that From Software notices the success of SH F and decides to remake Kuon.

"Fortunately" ? Silent Hill f is excellent and I'm having a blast. While I'm happy they keep on experimenting, I wouldn't mind a Silent Hill f2 or similar.
No, it's even worse than Ghost of Yotei.

I haven't played either game, but I enjoy being part of conversations.

Hopefully this means they also don't follow the old Silent Hill formula either. Keep experimenting. Let those stuck in the past fans keep crying.

Nah f was very much in the spirit of the original games. Insisting that it must take place in Silent Hill the town is just literal-minded nerdcore stubbornness.

"Fortunately" my ass, Silent Hill F is a banger and really you just don't like games anymore. Accept it. Move on.

When you hate every good game and then dream of the past, but don't play those games either you probably hate gaming now. It probably bores you because you have a 10 minute attention span.

The thing is, those guys would not be happy with anything. They have self-anointed themselves as the guardians of Team Silent's vision. They don't even know how the creative process worked for them or what they would've done with further titles. This is the trap of fanboyism and why you should never try to please them - it will never work.
