Silent Hill đť’‡ - Review Thread

Got my key off cdkeys earlier and the pre-load is on Steam. It is about a 37.7GB download.

Not going to look at video reviews yet, but I hope the story is strong enough, it needs to be for a Silent Hill game. I can put up with average combat for a good gripping story. Hope the performance issues aren't as bad as recent games, which is a defeated view when no game should be as bad they have been.

Please be good Silent Hill f, please.

Performance seems fine, based on one source the resolution can drop to 360p on base PS5 in the Performance mode to keep a locked 60.

I think this one might be better in Quality mode.
When it comes to resolutions, "elanalistadebits" would be the last source I'd trust. Besides, that resolution should result in a tragic IQ and be something highlighted in every review.

On the other hand, wasn't it DF who pointed out a very decent IQ in a demo at Gamescom? Or was it that demo on PRo?

DF mainly commented on the performance, said it looked a smooth 60 on PS5, which the other video also corroborates.

I don't doubt reconstruction will make it look decent. UE5 has pretty decent up-scaling. Playing Cronos right now and its 800~p looks pretty clean in motion.

Seeing a lot of 7s and a lot of 9s makes me hyped to play this and see how I feel myself. Going to be hard to drop Borderlands 1/2 the way through. Maybe I wait a week to start in Oct, make the spookyness official.

damn... im pretty done with games but a SH game getting good reviews, i might needa dip.

super cheap on steam in South Africa too, i have no reason why.
Steam price is very reasonable. Costs exactly double that amount on the Xbox store down here (PSN too), strange.

Same story with Metal Gear, wonder if Konami got tired of not getting sales in Africa.

It's difficult to justify buying new AAA titles when prices are flatly hard locked to the Dollar, especially with backlogs, affordable indies and deep sales of quality older titles.

But 800p TSR can be decent, 360p i dont think can be.... "decent".

We will see

There is a "lost in fog" difficulty above hard mode? Guess that's what I'm playing because I love torturing myself
The "lost in the fog" mode only effects puzzles, and the difference between this mode and hard is that it forces you to read journal entries to solve the puzzles in the game

It basically takes away any visual hints for the puzzles in the game

Hoping my 3060 can do DLAA 1080p at 60fps. UE5 starts to look a bit shit with DLSS reconstructing from 720-900p. Better with Transformer model, but still not ideal.

Thanks! Man, I wish that could have been unlocked on first playthrough. Sounds like my jam :/

You can probably blame the more action orientated gameplay on the success of the recent Resident Evil games
Not just recent RE games. Konami wants Silent Hill to ape other successful and more actiony franchises since 90s. Even they wanted SH3 to be an arcade shooter, and it wasn't because people of Team Silent said no. When Team Silent was out of the game and Konami started to have all the creative power, the focus definitely changed. Even Team Silent planned to make their cancelled SH5 with less combat because fans complained about it with 4. And yes...Shattered Memories existed...because Barlow, totally uninterested about making a SH1 remake, tricked Konami by giving them footage with scenes vaguely similar to the 1999 game just for calm them down.

Except SH2 remake was wildly overrated and the reviews for it are equally sus…Not to mention, pretty easy for Bloober given SH2 was ALREADY a masterpiece, much MUCH harder for something like F which is from the ground up and original..
Agree to disagree, i thought it was a great remake, not a perfect one, but a great one nevertheless.

And i wasn't really praising bloopers, i know 90% of the work was already done by others.

As someone who loves survival horror, SH2 was very mediocre. I swear it got good reviews just based off of nostalgia for the original. Combat was so mediocre. I am more optimistic in this game because the nostalgia isn't there with reviews. Regardless, 70$ for a 15hr game with little replayability is a wait for sale
I mean the combat was still pretty shit compared to a dead space or re2 remake but the puzzles were good and the atmosphere was top notch and it's one of the few survival horrors with a simple but great story.
I know you hate ue5 but many of the graphical whores in our infamous topic consider the game one of the best looking of 2024 so graphic was also an high point.

The new voice acting really improved the drama even if some people prefer the hilariously bad voice acting of the original that was a result of its times, let's be real...

The only problem was ruining a bit the pace because they enlarged some zones.

Gonna go quality mode on ps5 pro most likely. I doubt the combat needs 60fps. If it's bad frame pacing though I'll go performance.

A game like Batman Arkham knight recently I am replaying is buttery smooth for the ps4 version going 30fps thanks to good frame pacing. If more devs figured out the pacing I'd play 30fps without issues. Then you play borderlands 4 and it feels atrocious.

The gripes with IGN's review are things I can tell are really going to piss me off when playing. It's just the type of stuff that usually drives me nuts in games. I'm still looking forward to the game though, but I know those things are going to impact my enjoyment of the game. I'm saving this for around Halloween to play. Maybe by then it'll have some patches anyway.

DF said in a podcast the IQ on PS5 was good, you are talking about the last video with gameplay

Is it just me or is the footage washed out? HDR conversion issue?
Hope so. UE5 HDR isn't exactly great on consoles, and it's pretty much not worth bothering with on Windows. I don't believe I've stuck with HDR on any UE5 game. Always switch back to standard.

I will be, but I gotta finish Cronos and then Hell is Us first. Somehow I still gotta squeeze in Expedition 33 too before the end of the year.
I got your back chromosome dome brochacho!

Cronos first
Clair 33 second
Then silent hill f
Then Hell is us

This is the way.

PS5 has also flickering. I came to this thread after watching the video to see who'd jump the gun and of course is my favourite Slav.

Don't be blind. This is typical PSSR flickering in AO parts of the image, same in almost all UE5 games + PSSR. PS5 version is just low resolution.

If you want to support devs for releasing games looking like this then be my guest.

On a 65" screen (the way is meant to be played) you can see it. It's more subtle but it's there.

Remake was as good, if not better than the original SH2. The issue is that SH2 is a lesser game than SH1. Still very good, but it was no longer a horror. It was a thriller.
They botched several elements of the story, characters and themes and the performances were ass in the remake especially Maria and James. Was it the absolute dumpster fire one would expect from Bloober? No, but saying it's better than the original is utter hogwash.

SH1 is the better game though no arguments there.

And on screen like that you can see PSSR flicker even more - I use 55 inch OLED that is 1.5 meters away. And this is youtube, if you can see shit like that in YT video then it's gonna be much worse on actual screen connected to console.

Blame Sony for their shitty upscaler, blame devs for implementing it but don't blame me for pointing it out. If game has more performance options on Pro that allow to turn off PSSR then this is non issue.

I actually liked James in the remake. Agree about Maria. Vastly inferior to the original.
