Forza,Conker impressions from Holiday OXM disc

Got my Holiday OXM in the mail today...

Forza: Very attractive graphics, I'd say it's a solid 30 fps. Control seems responsive. Thing is, I've never been a big "realistic" driving fan. I like arcade racing so this isn't really my kind of game. I remember someone else posting impressions on it and said the demo didn't have damage in it. It definately does have damage. It's hard to really beat up your car because most of the walls on the course are lined with tires. What's noticeable at first is your lovely paint job gets messed up. After some work, the hood started to bend and after a particularly hard hit my rear window shattered and one of my side mirrors got knocked off.

Conker: Absolutely gorgeous. 5.1 sound also gets a real workout during the beach storming during this "Saving Private Ryan" parody. It was pretty frustrating at first but if you listen to Conker, he'll give you some audio clues on when you should move in the first part. Had a blast with it.

you're kidding? those are the demos? WOW! if so i can hardly wait!!!! damn! i want it now!!!!

any other demo's?

There are more demos.

Star Wars:Battlefront: Same as the one on the Star Wars DVDs
ESPN NHL 2k5
Outlaw Golf 2:I have the game, so I haven't checked it out
Rocky Legends

There's also another easter egg demo. Evidently another Japanese game. Haven't taken the time to figure out the code.

The Conker demo makes it seem like everything I hoped. I can't wait for it.

I won't deny that Forza seemed extremely "real", especially with weight and turning distance, etc. but it would take some adjustment for me to find it much fun. I also have to say that I didn't like the way it looked much.

HOLY CRAP! I figured out the easter egg code and the bonus Japanese demo is...

METAL WOLF CHAOS by From Software

You hold the Left Trigger and

Left, X, Y, Up, A, Y, B, Up, Down, Down, Y, Right, Right, Right, Back button

"Conker 30 or 60fps?"

I think it's 30 online and 60 for single player. Anyone confirm?

That'd be very impressive if they could push all that graphical detail in SP at 60 fps.

I wish these demo's had been on my copy of Halo or on the LE disk cause I don't get OXM.

::faints::

ohhhh my! details my man DETAILS!!! how is it? what's it like??? SPEAK!!!

best demo disk ever!

P.S. can anyone tell me what the secret bonus was for last months disk and how to enable it? also, the month before that if you know. i always forget to check for stuff like this and wouldn't know how anyways.

Unlike Phantom Dust, most of the text in this is in English so that makes things easier to deal with. Only spent a little time with it(wanted to rush up here and share my discovery),the graphics look great and stuff blows up real good. Your mech has a weapon on each arm fired by the corresponding trigger(mech dual wielding). If you hold B, you can press the triggers to cycle through the various weapons.

The level is set in Chinatown in San Francisco. You have to liberate it by blowing away enemy troops, tanks, choppers, etc.

Last month's was the Japanese demo for Phantom Dust. All the text was in Japanese so it was a little tough to figure out what was what.

Hold Left Trigger, A, Up, X, Y, Left, Right, B, B, Down, Down, Y, Left, X, Right, A, Up, Down.

Slight correction. The Battlefront demo ISN'T the Star Wars DVD version. Same level but it's more recent code(much closer to final game quality).

Finished the Metal Wolf Chaos demo. Very sweet. The mech has a shotgun, twin chainguns, a grenade launcher, a cannon, a missile launcher.

Conker demo is awesome, and very fun. It's not 60fps, but a very solid 30. Controls are great, the sound is brilliant and it's got the typical rare sense of humour. Some of the things written on the boxes are great. :lol

Forza and Conker were two of the most underwhelming Xbox titles at E3. I wonder if they've improved since then.

OMG, Conker, Forza and Metal Wolf Chaos!?? Sweeeeet, can't wait till I get my hands on one! Are they at newstands anywhere yet????

I am hoping you think GT4 is boring too.

Nope. I like Gran Turismo. I thought Forza was a pretty average racer wrapped in a pretty package with some nice customization developments. It wasn't much fun, though.

Yeah, sure you did.

Yeah, I did. It took about 15 minutes of trial and error. The worst was finding the final button because I had to enter the 14 presses and then try a button. Didn't work, 14 presses, try another button. When I ran out of joypad directions and the regular buttons, I finally tried the Back button(they don't usually use that one in their codes).

I have to say that Conker really impressed the hell out of me. Some of the best graphics seen on the XBox yet. I was floored by the fur shading on conker. I don't remember much about the N64 game since I rushed through it back in the day, but this lookslike a worthy candidate for purchase. Can't wait to play the multiplayer online.

I can't comment much on Forza since I'm not much of a sim racing fans. I'll have to here impressions from others and make a decision.

But what reallyl blew me away was Metal Wolf Chaos. It's over the top campy voice acting had me in stitches. I just finished reading the article in this months XMB about Masanori Takeuchi and Metal Wolf Chaos. otogi fans will love the totally destructable environments. And mech fans will love the overal mech and weapons desgin. Oh somebody HAS to bring this game to the US, to hell with sales potential. I want a westernized copy ASAP!!

Metal Wolf Chaos is definitely coming to the US, with battle mode over live as a bonus compared to the JP version who will only have scoreboards. At least that's what the producer of the game said in an interview during TGS. Only the publisher hasn't been announced yet.

ok, so what exactly can you do on the Conker demo?
You play part of the "saving private ryan" level. The beach, and then a bit of gameplay inside. Nothing ground breaking gameplay wise, but it controls great (except for jumping by clicking on the left stick...) and runs at a very smooth 30 fps, which is quite impressive considering how great the game looks.
My only complaint would be that most of the cinematic fall flat on the funny side, there is something kinda wrong with how long they are (especially the electric chair, make it half as long and it would be much funnier). The "actor" one was great though.
I'm uploading a video of the whole level to my site right now, should be done in a bit more than one hour.

I loved the crate full of triangles with 'Extra Xbox Polys' stenciled on it. :lol

The opening scene where Conker's buddies are being mowed down is quite moving. Sniff.

I agree, I accidentally clicked it a few times and jumped when didn't want to.
The demo is great though, I only played about half of Bad Fur Day so I cannot comment on how this scene compares to how it was on N64.
I can't wait for this now. I stopped playing Bad Fur Day because this remake was announced.
The graphics are incredible... Back when IGN gave it the award for best graphics on Xbox at this years E3, I was surprised. Now that i've played it, I can see why it won that.

edit: Just wanted to mention, in the hallway with the fire, you can just run and jump through to the end without even having to shoot a single bullet.

Is that supposed to be EDGE?

"Two million polygons equals better gameplay" = GOLD! :lol
Yeah it's Edge, they (Edge) even did a full page about this, with this screenshot in very high resolution. Pretty funny.
And yes it's written Killer Instinct - Logo - Is back. But you never know with Rare...

I'm sure wouldn't mind some help from her :p
In fact I had forgotten how to crouch (is it even possible ?), that's why I had to use the brute force method.
