Forza Horizon 5 had one million concurrent players at launch

Fun fact. Did you know that online was completely busted at launch?

I don't get why they brag about it. It was a shit show. I've finished the entire game in offline mode and by the time they fixed it I was officially done with it.

Once again open-source GO lang reigns superior. It wasn't without its fault, but it didn't shit the bed, like other Azure solutions, written in shit like C#.

I thought it was 17 million ..... now 1?

If Game pass had about 25m subscribers at that point it means that a little less than 1/25 of subscribers were playing their biggest release that year day one. Really impressive.

edit: Sorry if my opinion personally offended anyone, it was not my intention.

Game is going to be at 20M total players in a couple weeks considering it was at 19.6M yesterday when I checked. Absolute behemoth second only to Mario Kart at this point.

Time zones mean not every region plays at the same time, not everyone would use the New Zealand trick to play in the middle of the night at launch.

Yes, because every Gamepass subscriber lives in the same time zone, is a racing fan and plays games at the same time.

Your constant platform warring in every MS/Xbox topic is tiresome.

Please, no need to get mad. It's what I got from it, they are trying to spin this as some mighty impressive numbers and I just don't see it at all, given that the game was available under a subscription and on Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC. Even I was playing the game and I don't even like it, it was "free" so I checked it out.

If the game was this huge success, there is no need to spin anything, all MS needs to do is make public how many copies were sold.

I guess you are not the brightest with this math.

Concurrent players does not equal total players.

It means players who played at the same time.

Exactly, I guess they think we forgot how messed up it was at launch. I love the game but the online issues were game breaking.

I mean being a "free" gamepass game no shit. If anything 10% seems kind of high.

What was downplayed? If anything I'm hyping up steam concurrent players who had to pay for the game.

The game had 1 million+ people playing before the game even came out on game pass, these folks paid for early access.

Concurrent at launch.

Not cumulative.

Sounds good, I think. Of course, gamepass slightly muddies the water on this but still, getting 5 million to play a racing game at launch seems pretty good.

Never mind, my mind read 5 million but it was only one million. That number seems kinda small for such a popular game plus gamepass for a launch game.

I'd have expected it to be higher considering it was included with GamePass.

Time zones + genre + not everyone plays day one. Total day one players would be significantly higher than this. It's also the 5th installment of a game that the 4th version was already on GP.

It's a very impressive figure for a racing game. A staggering amount of F2P games don't hit this.

I remember this game having early access if you bought the ultimate edition, and that alone was over a million. 3 days before the game pass release.

I find the player stats really troublesome. I played Halo Infinite at launch and that had record engagement. A few months later and it's difficult to find a match.

Yep, it was around 1.4m or so before the general launch on game pass.

This was an incredibly successful launch for PlayGround.

I think the total player count has exceeded 20 million as of a month or two ago.

There were online connectivity issues at launch (can't remember if there were any during pre-launch days) but I was online way way more often than offline.

Also, the usual gang of hiyenas are at it again. Deep breath. Self-control. Phew.

It is such a solid game that the numbers aren't surprising at all. Seems like the engagement is much higher than the previous FH (that was also on GP), job well done by MS and developers.

No... Mario Kart is paid for. Horizon has traditionally had to be bundled to get good numbers and even then it wasn't close to its next competitor. Game Pass is what has bumped it up to these numbers.

If Mario Kart was on a "Nintendo Pass" it'd have like 90m players or more.

Isn't he Aussie? Pretty sure almost every game is dead there.(unless you want to play fortnite, Apex or warzone)

Yeah I know. This concurrent peak is very unlikely to be before gamepass though. Steam concurrent peak probably doesn't even align with this 1M concurrent peak. Meaning the steam % would be less out of the 1M and mostly xbox.

I was one of those who bought the Premium Edition and I agree I think this was a huge game for Playground games

The game already sold over a million units of the premium SKU ahead of launch. Steamspy has its owners at 2m - 5m buyers. Wide, imprecise range, but gives an idea of how well it sells.

The series gets great numbers without bundles.

What else are people going to play on Gamepass?

So funny.

Free or not 1 million concurrent player is an impressive number

Im literally saying it is second TO Mario Kart, which is of course bigger. I don't think any other racing game pulls this kind of numbers though.
