Yes. People who don't have the DLC pack will just see a generic car.

OK, now how many people are going to be voted out of a race because some random generic car like a fiesta is whipping race cars?

I stuck up 5 or so variations of my GTR paint job for 2k each on the storefront, was going to make them free but I feel that I should earn a little towards buying another DLC car :lol

Is the "generic" car like a ghost car from forza 2? it looked cool because you could see all the insides like an X-ray if they were racing a car you did not have downloaded :D

Oh, I could've sworn that I saw a Evo X in Forza 2 even when I didn't have the dlc :lol I guess not.
If you download the freebie car you can get right now which is the S5 audi I think, it also downloads the other cars so you can visually see them online by others driving it.

Did you know that the game has an auction house feature where you can buy cars for much cheaper than the store price? ;)

What difficulty setting are you playing on to cause such complaints about the amount of credits you get from races?

I personally don't have a single complaint about it, I think it's just fine. I play with the hardest settings except auto clutch and braking line.

I saw cars I didn't have in Forza 2 while playing online so I'm sure it's the same in this one.

I play with the exact same difficulty settings and I've already done 4 endurance races.
Quick question, how many cars do you have ? I must have near 110 cars now that I've bought some of the DLC cars.
I tried the auction house for the GT3 RS and the F355 Challenge, ended up paying almost the same amount of money (must have saved only hundreds of Cr not even a thousand, not really significant and worth the wait IMO...).

With Forza 2 you would see the Evo X if you downloaded the one free car from the DLC pack.

I would think that by downloading the free S4 you would also get the rest of the models.

Simple question, if I buy this on my secondary xbox account, will it work with my primary account (on the same console). I assume yes.

:)

can you race vs people who have the dlc pack even if you don't? I hope it doesn't split the userbase.

It should appear as 'DLC Car' in matchmaking and in game I think it appears as a solid black car that looks sortof like an audi S4. Metallic black with black windows, black lights, solid black rims, etc. It actually looks quite cool :D

10 cars in 120mb is some serious compression. Very impressive :)

I require photos now, want to see how I probably looked earlier to day to all the viper drivers without DLC :lol

I think it also massively screws up when it's a really low riding car.. The stand-in car starts freaking out because the network updates keep pushing it into the ground :lol
At least, I've seen this happen a couple of times.

Which reminds me... Totally off topic,
But yesterday I was lag-shunted online. Totally destroyed the rear shocks/dampers. I was bouncing around mad, yet in an amazingly realistic way. Fish-tailing everywhere :D The last corner at sebring was a nightmare, like the car was running drunk hydraulics.

[edit]
It would be nice if we could at least *look* at the DLC cars in game - without buying the DLC. In fact, this would make buying them far more tempting.

Yeah, I know about the AH. you can save some money there if you were lucky to find something with a buyout price that's good or you can spend an hour bidding to save some credits.

I play with AI on hard, all assists off and manual w/o clutch. I got over 1.5 kk racing with arround 30 hours of racing campaign mode. another 10 hours online game me arround 100k.

Now to ilustrate my point: did you see the in game prices of the Holiday DLC?

GT-R - 150,000,
Both LMP1's - 1.5 million
S4 - 48,000
458 Italia - 250,000
599xx - 2.5 million
XFR - 80,000
LP670-SV - 400,000
Stirling Moss - 1.1 million
Panamera - 130,000

10 cars = 7,658,000

Even if one do the oval endurance grinding and get arround 100,000 cr per hour, over 75 hours of grinding are needed to buy the 10 cars from the pack.

Not counting upgrades.

Is 75 hours of grinding for 10 cars ok?

Actually, you can half the amount of hours as with my settings I already get near 200k (if my memory is correct). :D

Still, more than 30h to get all the DLC cars is a massive amount of playtime.

When did they add cockpit view shifting animations? I hadn't noticed them until now(haven't played in a few weeks).

A little over a week ago. It was a surprise to most of us.

man at first I thought the GT-R was an understeering piece of pug crap but 3 small tweaks(Tire pressure 29psi front and rear, differential torque 85% rear) and damn its awe-fucking-some. R15 I bought but haven't driven yet. going by stats it seems equal to the Acura but with less mechanical grip, should have better aero grip than the Acura though.

Yeah I find that the R35 likes to understeer a lot, especially at moderate speeds it's like turning on ice but I will try that 85% rear tip as I find it hard to keep up with S class vipers on maple valley right this moment.

It's on the Storefront for 10,000 I think. Just go to Most Downloaded for he GT-R and it's right near the top.

Several free versions available too, got a few of em. I don't know about the understeer at lower speeds, but at higher speeds, its as if the R35 never runs out of grip. Every car handles like butter in the pack except for the Jag, IMO.

There needs to be a no collision rule for first corners in a race, was rear ended by someone who obviously did not want to pull his brakes at all at the first turn of mugello, you know how BIG that sand trap is, I went right across it. :/

The first guy who puts a Ridge Racer livery onto a 458 Italia gets my undying respect. I've seen a few Ridge Racer designs, but the 458 Italia looks like a Ridge Racer car to me. :D

WOOOHOOOOOO!

Supposedly my wheel will be with me tomorrow. It's going to be a Forza xmas! :lol

Snap!

Had three tracking numbers from UPS today. Will have them tommorrow!

Finally will be able to play Forza 3 properly now, rather than just a quick race here and there.

Not liking the turbo lag on the R15. A little twitchy under braking and left to right/right to left transitions. Tried it out on Maple Valley reverse and spun a few times exiting the chicanes(usually taken at full speed). High speed grip is amazing though.

My GT-R 'small tweaks' turned out to be not as good as I thought. Worked great for tracks like maple valley or montserrat but garbage on fujimi kaido and laguna. Having a hard time trying to get rid of the understeer(might have to change it to RWD)

No, but if you begin to drive the Panamera more than often (once max), then your doing something wrong.

op_ivy

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
~30 hours of career racing and i finally raced the extreme montserrat circuit! :lol wtf. one of the best tracks in the game and it is TOTALLY under-represented

Could anyone put up the stats for the Aston and the R15 please?

Also, Che, does the beginning of DLC releases mean the end of free VIP cars?

The last release, the Halo Reach Lambo was strange. The version I got didn't have an aero tune or orange wheels like the version depicted on the website.

One thing I did to save money on upgrades was take the new car I bought and raced it on my own private online race against 7 AI opponents on Hard. Set the laps to 10-12.

During that race get a feel for the car and what sort of upgrades are needed. If you do decent in the race you get a lot of credits. And at the same time you are upgrading your car's rank so you get discounts on parts.

So you get a feel for the car and there is less experimentation in upgrading and tuning and so less wasted money on non-useful parts. You make a lot of money if you can win the 10-12 lap race. And you get discounts on parts.

It's not "cheating" like letting the AI race. Which is a good option I'm not complaining but this method you'll gain an appreciation and understanding of the car before you open up the hood.

Those 10-12 lap races are also better experiences because you remove the temptation of rewind and it helps you learn the track with that car you are driving.

At the same time you can choose a track that you rarely race on in Career mode. I suggest choosing a track that you do race a lot in career mode so you can tune the car for that track...but you can choose anything if you're tired of seeing the same tracks over and over.

I don't think cars are too expensive. I think you don't make enough money from winning championships and completing seasons. If it was like this:

-1 million bonus for completing Season 1
-2 mil for S2
-3 mil for S3
-5 mil for S4
-10 mil for S5
-15 mil for S6

...there wouldn't be any complaints. Those later seasons take a lot of time and I have a feeling that most people won't make it past Season 4.

These bonuses are needed because the actual race winnings aren't enough. They would be just right if there was a bonus system tied to the Seasons.

Got the game yesterday, played into the 3rd season so far. Lovely racer.

One thing I don't understand though - in Free Play mode, how do I set the number of laps?

Alright, I think I'm in love with the '10 GT-R. After a few tweaks, I've been running in the top 6 or 7 percentile on S class hot laps.

Still about 13 seconds off from the Vipers, but I'll take what I can get.

Not everyone bought the game for making livery's. Like I said earlier, the system might work fine for artists but like many of us, who bought the game for racing, it needs tweaking. Right now, I'm very limited in how I spend my money. I have to pretty much pick the right car for the class and stick with it. I can't be a kid in a candy store essentially, which is half the thrill of having a racing game.

I agree with this. I have spent almost 200,000 in F355CH to become A600 car. 200,000. It is a pile of credits when you take into account I earn my credits through racing only.

Game definatly need balancing for all the players that want to earn money through racing.

IMHO it is plain wrong that racing simulation allows people to make more money on every other money-making aspect than actual racing.

But wouldn't that be just like in real life where only a fraction of people racing actually make money out of it?

Haha, no, but a nice try. The structure of earnings is biased towards earnings from auction house, ratial of liveries and so on.

It is OK, and I have no problem that guys like Jube, Modus and other great drawers there earn themself zillions for their great talent, invested time and effort.

However, it would be really nice if some higher-class races and championships in Calendar would give more credits to people that actually bought this game to drive and race.

Another problem is somewhat broken online, which also does not help because there is no satisfactory way to earn serious credits.

I'm surprised to see so many people having no sympathy for car collectors. I guess Forza has a different audience to most racing games with all the community aspects going on and the car porn collectors make up a really small portion of that audience. Is it really that hard to understand that yes, some of us do want to own, paint & tune every car in the game? Or at least have the ability to?

It'd mitigate things slightly if it were possible to window shop for upgrades before buying a car. Spending cash only to find out that the drivetrain or engine swap you expected isn't present is a teeth-gnashing affair.

I don't know, I think the game does give you enough reward car for you to race with as you progress, but I understand where some of you are coming from especially as you move higher up, cars get really expensive but reward from race doesn't seem to scale well.

May be it's just the way to keep you playing, however, that said, I never feel like I have to grind to get certain class of car to race at least not yet anyway, at level 35, unlike some other game where you have to grind just to earn enough to buy a car of certain class to be competitive. I am at R3 championship and the game award me R3 Ferrari and then R3 Porsche (flying lizard) so if I can choose to keep my Cr. May be the it's the way for the game to let us drive car we might not have ...

Anyway, yeah, that GTR is full of awesome... cry I want my pedal. Driving with pad really blow after you play with Turbo S wheel.

Honestly, as a 30 year old man in full time employment with a partner, I cannot collect all the cars. It couldn't be done. It'd take years and require me to give up playing other games. Not gonna happen. How did GT PSP make it possible for me to collect 842 cars without giving up years of my life? Better economic balance, that's how.

I dunno, I guess I'm slowly realising Forza isn't suited to / targeted at me any more.

Doesn't really affect me one way or the other, but I wouldn't be surprised if they change it at some point anyway. Ironically the reason I can't say I care about getting all the cars is the reason you say you'd never be able to... I'd never have the time to look at / race / tune / paint them all anyway.

I don't find earning Cr. in GT to be any easier than Forza 3, except may be in GT you can kinda pick really easy track and earn a lot of Cr. by racing them over and over, which is also something you can do in Forza 3 (though someone mention that is cheating the system).

To me it was really hard to buy car in GT: PSP because they don't show up at the sametimes and when I have Cr. there isn't the car that I want. Also the nature of portability of PSP where you can just pick up and play whenever and wherever you are so may be it's not a fair comparison. I know I play GTPSP between class, before I go to bed etc

My wheel has arrived. :D

I feel like crap today though, going to need some medicine or something before I even think of setting it up.

Yeah, I've been thinking about it since I posted that and I do remember getting frustrated with GTPSP at times. Maybe it seemed easier because it was portable. I just never got the feeling that it simply couldn't be done like I do with Forza. And yeah, the random dealerships were the biggest load of bollocks ever to make it into a racing game.

Oooh, you lucky devil. Fanatec or Logitech? You'll soon feel better once the wheel is hooked up. Wind down your virtual windows and get some fresh air!
