So comfortable. I don't care how fabulous they make me look!

Don't listen to the naysayers! That's the perfect footware for the CSPs. In fact, I found the brushed anodised finish to the pedals a little 'tacky' at first (after the smooth stainless steel of my G27s) but they soon smoothed over with a little help from some silicone spray. Only freaks wear shoes in gaming cockpits!

In other news: I don't know how they did it, but Laguna now looks less beige and yellow. Awesome job, I am happy!

Che can correct me but he never lied he was just not informed with the latest info. FM3 split the developer up to different components like audio or online or campaign and each team worked on their area with a bit more power and control than most teams. Look up scrum development they had each team employ scrum.

The problem with that as a community manager I imagine it hard to get info right because nothing is in stone. They had yo have a stable build all the time and I'm sure they were working on stuff that didn't make the final game. And these decisions came from each team making it harder to track and verify.

That's my theory anyways.

Also it's funny how Che gets called a liar when another guy showed us a PowerPoint presentation many years ago with features for his game and so much of that wasn't. Features get cut especially on ambitious games.

The guy saying there were jaggles in the single screen setups meant that those tvs were not set up properly. Triple screen setup was obviously calibrated. I've seen horrible setups at my local Best Buy that make even Gran Turismo 5 look like a pixely mess. Those tvs have features like edge enhancement which make games look horrible.

Laguna Seca looks pretty good. I really hope the game supports multiclass races. With ALMS and tracks like RA and LS it's a no brainer.

See ? you doubted them, but Laguna Seca is now rather pretty.
If they got rid of the stupid colourful glow and lazy replay cameras (can't be arsed to find a nice angle for this straight, let's just have a camera spin around the car until the next corner !) i'll consider myself more than happy.

The glow in particular, which is there in a lot of tracks in fm3, completely ruins everything, but like i said earlier it looks like the game is a lot less prone to overexposure now. I don't understand why hdr is often used to make the game look like it's been viewed through cheap camcorders.

I'm with you on that note, Iknos. Che seemed to do what he could and keep visibility of the game well on our radar, but obviously could've handled things here or there a little better. Whilst not an official "CM", Jube seems to have stepped up as our liason for the game and official link to Turn 10, as well as BADNED... so full marks to the boys who have gone beyond the call of duty to keep us informed. Bit of a slap on the wrist to whoever's doing the official community relations (I'm sure it's not just Brian who would be responsible) in the hope they manage it a bit better from here on in.

If not, I'll step up to the plate, depart Australia and CM for FM5. Believe.

BTW I've always been sketchy on BADNED's history with Forza and T10. What's his relationship with the game and the devs?

The latest few shots of various track surfaces seem to be really slick looking and a bit too shiny. I thought they improved the textures?

Also, to balance things out a bit, those m3 shots look AWESOME!!!
Can't wait to try that bad boy.
Both the track and the car look amazing IMO.

I mean take a look at one of the particular shots of LS, I have never seen it look this good in a game or real life lol.

Eek add bumpy road surfaces and camera improvement in dash/hood to reflect bump reactions.

I don't think they modeled any of the "bumps" on the road. The road textures do look higher res on most of the new track photos though but they're still pretty much flat. I think the bumps will all be simulated

Yeah they'll be simulated for sure along rumble feedback from them, that's what I got from one of the articles or I think it was a video.

oh yeah.

- autovista: 26 fully interactive 1m poly models

single player

- 12 cars on track.
- Improved AI
- slower cpu drivers are only slower through corners, less brave, but still go full speed on straights, which means cars won't be miles apart after one lap.
- one additional difficulty level
- cpu will upgrade their cars
- more variety in career, with overtaking, autocross, bowling (?) and other types of events.
- affinity system. Discounts and free upgrades for your car eventually
- reworked physics and tire physics
- no steering assist on countersteering, resulting in tankslapping
- better damage system, with more polygonal deformation, more localised damage
- if you flip your car, race is over.
- headtracking with kinect
- several (or 'some', or a 'small selection') of tracks available at different times of the day
- around 100 new cars, plus all the cars from Fm3 ultimate.
- Porsche cars are gone and so are around 35 cars from fm3.
- Rally di Positano, New York and Sidewinder gone.
- 5 environments were added, several returning tracks revamped, updated etc.
- better DLC integration (?)

upgrading

- ability to delete bumpers and factory spoilers on some cars
- aero upgrades more in line with the car's period
- headlights covers (which you can paint)
- Full OEM makeover packages for some of the cars.
- widebody kits ?

graphics

- IBL
- reworked shaders for all materials
- adjusted cockpit view, which is now more dynamic
- full lod models used ingame in some cases
- more abundant and persistent smoke/dust

sound

- PGR series guy working on it
- Cars sound different when under stress, like when hill climbing
- Improved tire squeals sounds ?

multiplayer

- 16 players races
- public lobbies
- car clubs, sharing cars, setups, designs.

additional stuff

- much lower comression ratio for 720p photo mode, ability to take 2160p uncompressed pictures
- new photomode filters (vignette etc)
- 6 homespace locations

on top of my head

shame about the tires :p

well..there IS lighting on trees now, they pretty much ignored environmental lighting before

As for tire walls, i think they even went too far actually modeling those tires. Other Games get away with flat textured surfaces.

Granted, that particular shot looks insane, but I am still irked at the glossy sheen of the road surface in full sun. When you drive 'bumper' cam, you see how bad it is as you move.

MEGATON!

At work looking through emails. I come to the new release print up from my company and what do I see....

Apparently Forza 4 is releasing the same day as gears 9/20/11 and it will have its own limited Xbox 360 bundle.

That's why they have been so absent last week, their dropping a sneak attack!

LOL what a mistake, for my company to make.

sun is higher, trees look better (although in my memory i thought they looked worse in fm3) and the road doesn't look like it's covered in sand.

Actually, Laguna Seca in fm3 looks plagued by codemaster's piss filter.
I am confident that gold halo/glow has gone too, of course we need to see what cars look like there; i know, i know, we've seen a honda civic, but i'm talking actual race or replay. Tomorrow it is.

Anyway, we shall be flooded with new media when the embargo lifts next week

There's no doubting that all comparison pics shown so far favour a very noticeable upgrade between the two games. Contrasts, colours, lighting, textures, objects..etc are easily better in FM4 than FM3.
I'm fucking dying to play the game despite the recent frustrations. I hoped it would've been through a demo but that seems unlikely now..

why unlikely ?
also that download, whatever it is, is still planned, probably for tuesday.

Tried to match these up as much as possible. The corkscrew shot is taken at a higher height than possible in F3 photo mode. This doesn't really mean much since F3 shots were taken at angles that were impossible for us in F3.

All the stuff behind the hill in the corkscrew shot is just completely blown out/white in F3 as well so they added that backdrop to the track.

The only thing more annoying than the dribble of Forza info is the teasing of the Mango update for WP7.
The difference is that you can already get the mango RTM and it's not illegal to install it on your phone.

Sounds like a media embargo (previews/impressions)
So maybe in their minds they want the content to flow
Media->Demo->Reviews->Release
Would explain the lack of info, but still, I wanted a demo for the weekend :(

The Bugatti variant of LeMans was also cut. I liked that track. :/

I've been going cold turkey here trying to not play any racing games in anticipation of 4. I'm itching to take out the wheel but want to save it for October. But with F1 2011 around the corner it's going to be tough. Perhaps a self induced coma, set for awakening on FM's release day is in order?

The only thing I like better in the FM3 Laguna Seca screens over FM4's, is the sky. Everything else is better in FM4. Especially, the overall lighting. Looks like light is actually scattering.

I keep thinking "don't burn yourself out on F3" but I'm just in racing bliss with the setup now. I know F4 will be improved yet still feel "the same" so I'm doing it in moderation to get used to the pedals .. hiring a driver/race/driver/race ... probably keep this up for a while.

Wow, nice comparison shots, eek5.

Also, remember some of the heated debates some people had over the "rewind" feature. I don't think I've seen any this time around. Regardless, I guess Turn10 listened and added it to the assists menu.

Edit, I guess you can add more home screens environments to eek5's and eso76's list.

in Forza3 you could disable the message from appearing, but I am going to guess the rewind feature is exactly the same as in 3

It is, but I also remember something being mentioned about how you can turn it off. Not sure if it adds % to your win though.

It's in the assists menu this time so you can take it off completely. Like all other assists, you get less earnings with it on.

Edit, what flyinpiranha said.

The track looks better, especially when you focus on the details and around the tracks, nice job Turn10, I like the less blinding and more natural lighting.

lagunaseca3.jpg

A few questions:
- Is it the updated corkscrew in FM4 and FM3?
- and... what does OT mean???

I've read on Kotaku something about the wireless wheel.

http://kotaku.com/5840887/forza-4s-magic-steering-wheel-doesnt-look-very-magic

It's looking unresponsive because the player is bad at the game but thankfully, the steering AND breaking assist features of Forza 4 are turned on. If you turn those off, the wheel is incredibly responsive, picking up the slightest movements. I've been been hands on with the wheel for a few days while setting up GAMEfest in the UK, it's a great bit of it.

Oh.

The Kotaku article sounds positive though. Good to hear.

I am going to add a couple these to the wheel and bam! Force feed back steering. Haters will hate, but by then, I will be in first place.
