If the NDA for previews is up this week, and T10 have said that they've been visiting places with a near final copy of the game, I think what people should expect sometime this week (We think Friday onwards) is several sites having the FM4 preview articles up..
They did adjust the roads and their reaction when driving to give subtle feedback on bumps on all tracks, camera work to coincide with road feedback in hood/dash cam I think, capability of turning off all hidden assists, reworked engine sound for the vehicles, multiple home spaces, lighting, visible interior of vehicles during races, full lod on players car, reworked replay angles, more cars on track in SP and MP, major online community changes and features, changes to customization + things we might not know about yet, uncompressed ultra high resolution shots, kinect headtracking, autovista, livery editing optimizations (possible), top gear, tracks are considerably more detailed overall coming from FM 3 to this.
It's not like T10 didn't do anything, seriously..
The changes to the lighting and the driving model alone should make a huge difference from FM 3 to FM 4.
You know we'll eventually have night and weather in the Forza series, just like we got cockpits and 60 fps. At this point everyone seems to be asking for those two things just to say that the game has it. From my perspective if it doesn't have good function/implementation T10 wont put it in halfassed until they get it right.
Pretty awesome to hear about the collaborative work with Epic and Bungie.
But wait, didn't they already say before Autovista models are the same as the ones on track? I remember it being a bullet point in one of Dan's presentations.
- autovista: 26 fully interactive 1m poly models (why wouldn't that count exactly ? because you're not interested ?)
single player
- 12 cars on track.
- Improved AI
- slower cpu drivers are only slower through corners, less brave, but still go full speed on straights, which means cars won't be miles apart after one lap.
- one additional difficulty level
- cpu will upgrade their cars
- more variety in career, with overtaking, autocross, bowling (?) and other types of events.
- affinity system. Discounts and free upgrades for your car eventually
- reworked physics and tire physics
- no steering assist on countersteering, resulting in tankslapping
- better damage system, with more polygonal deformation, more localised damage
- if you flip your car, race is over.
- headtracking with kinect
- several (or 'some', or a 'small selection') of tracks available at different times of the day
- around 100 new cars, plus all the cars from Fm3 ultimate.
- Porsche cars are gone and so are around 35 cars from fm3.
- Rally di Positano, Le Mans Bugatti, New York and Sidewinder gone.
- 5 environments were added, several returning tracks revamped, updated etc.
- better DLC integration (?)
upgrading
- ability to delete bumpers and factory spoilers on some cars
- aero upgrades more in line with the car's period
- headlights covers (which you can paint)
- Full OEM makeover packages for some of the cars.
- widebody kits ?
graphics
- IBL
- reworked shaders for all materials
- adjusted cockpit view, which is now more dynamic
- full lod models used ingame in some cases
- more abundant and persistent smoke/dust
sound
- PGR series guy working on it
- Cars sound different when under stress, like when hill climbing
- Improved tire squeals sounds ?
multiplayer
- 16 players races
- public lobbies
- car clubs, sharing cars, setups, designs.
- rivals mode: asyncronous multiplayer aside, you'll be able to challenge replicas of famous laps on real tracks (someone mentioned Ayrton Senna's lap on Suzuka in a NSX)
additional stuff
- much lower compression ratio for 720p photo mode, ability to take 2160p uncompressed pictures
- new photomode filters (vignette etc)
- 6 homespace locations
Auto Vista (it counts for me - can't wait to see it up close on my 60" )
Asynchronous gameplay in Rivals Mode
Car Clubs
Active Aero
Alternate time of day
Improved tire model
Top Gear license actually used in a meaningful way - Reasonably Priced Car, Standing starts on Top Gear track
Autocross
More levels of AI difficulty
Uncompressed 8 megapixel photos
More dynamic player camera
DLC integrated into campaign
I thought FM3 had motion blur during replays as well (while MSAA was also upped to 4x), no? You'd figure a 30fps replay not looking very smooth without motion blur.
28 fps with ridiculous tearing says hi, this isn't the comparo thread anyway but I think Dan's comment was a dig at the other game rather than a full explanation.

It's all well and good posting those lists, but from what I can see it offers nothing that the competition doesn't.
I want to purchase a driving game that is different from the competition, not attempting to be the same.
I have no interest in the liveries but now that I game on my 360 a lot more than used to I wanted to purchase this as a "must buy" not an "360 owners only driving game"

So to want it to be different from the competition, you want them to match othergame feature for feature by sacrificing stuff for night racing and weather? LMAO

"I want a different game."
"It is different." "I don't care about those differences, I want different differences. Oh, and can you duplicate these features that the other game has?"
Oh come off it, every single person post E3 was expecting night racing and weather, now they spout the game engine they're using as the obstacle only weeks before release.
I wanted Forza 4 to have everything the competition has and more, surely i'm not the only one?

No worries, but like many of us have learned it's hard to set realistic expectations. I own both and play both and there are some great comparisons out there but the biggest issue is that for some reason T10 isn't being very forthcoming with the information.
Your best bet would be to wait for the demo and an official list. For me personally the more intuitive career mode (to be seen) is what has me hyped. I really disliked the setup for Career mode in both games to be honest.

As you said a lot of people already posted your concerns about those subjects. Just coming here saying they are doing nothing sounds like a troll attempting. Your history in Forza/GT threads doesn't help either.

They have made changes to the gameplay, lighting and sound that will add to the realism, the experience should be and will be much better than FM3 in FM4.
Give it a fair shot and stop thinking that two missing features make or break a racing game. It's astounding how your logic seems to work.
excuse me, but this is what it looks like:
"what does fm4 offers that fm3 didn't ? oh, and don't say autovista because it shouldn't be considered a new feature, for some reason"
*lists
"ok, but what i meant is what does it offer that the competition doesn't ? oh, and don't say liveries, because i don't care"
so you're actually asking for lists comparing fm4 to gt5, but I have a feeling you won't care about any fm4 exclusive feature people might list, be it customization, rather deep setup menu, AI, sound etc.
