I don't think that's going to make their involvement any more detrimental to Forza, though. It's not like they're going to have minigames where you have to tow trailers at a certain speed or anything.

Nope, disagree. Top Gear is funny as hell, the chemistry works great even if they're playing it up purposely these days. It's not so dryly about the cars anymore, but that's also why its audience has grown. It strikes a great balance.

What track is that? Bernese Alps?

Technically yes, but tell a Canadian, or a Brazilian that they are American, and I dont think they would appreciate it.

I really hate Brits calling everyone on the continent 'Americans'. It's like calling people who live in the Soloman Islands 'Australians'.

So...a broad overview:

Car content:

Most of the tuner cars are gone, with the exception of the Mugen Honda Civic and Integra and the Mine's R32 and R34 Skyline. Thankfully, that means the awful tuner car liveries are gone too.

For BrianJ:

1971 Skyline 2000GTR
Nissan Skyline R33 GTR

No R35 GTR, because they are a bunch of twatwaffles. Apparently the GTR team is independent from the rest of Nissan on many levels, one of them being licensing. The only way they would allow us to use the R35 was if it had no damage, no rollover, no custom wheels, no custom parts that improved performance, no painting, and no livery. So we said no thanks.

I think that's a net +1 to the Skyline count.

The usual suspects have also been added:

Corvette ZR1
'09 Cadillac CTS-V
Nissan 370Z
Lamborghini Reventon
Ferrari California
Subaru GR STI
Camaro (he possibly means Caparo)
Bugatti Veyron

etc....

If you like your wheels old school:

Fiat 131 Abarth
2nd gen Toyota Celica Supra
Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
Aston Martin DB5

If you like shitboxes:

Toyota Corolla Versa
Toyota Yaris
Chevrolet Aveo (Matiz in england i think )

If you like Smokey and the Bandit or Knight Rider:

'79 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
'87 Pontiac Firebird
'88 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

If you like trucks:

Range Rover Supercharged
Saleen S331 Supercab
Ram SRT10
Audi Q7
VW Toureg
Porsche Cayenne

If you like Italians:

Alfa 8C
Alfa Brera
Alfa Mito
Fiat 500 Abarth

If you like race cars:

Aston Martin Prodrive DB9s
Porsche 997 GT3-RSR
E92 BMW GT
Porsche, Acura, and Mazda LMP cars

Other interesting stuff:

ST205 Celica GT4
RS200 Evolution
'69 Dodge Charger Daytona
AMG SL65 Black
Renaultsport Twingo

Meh....that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you ask about a specific car it may jog my memory.

As far as tracks go, the only big licensed one we added was Le Mans. Fujimikaido is back though and pretty cool, and we have some imaginary tracks that are a huge improvement over the older stuff.

The big change to the Livery Editor is that all cars, including race cars, are paintable now. Black on black on black Ferrari Prodrive 550 GT1 racecar looks awesome. That is all.

As far as rollover goes, what you saw in the first video is pretty hard to accomplish. It won't be like Burnout where every car to car contact will result in exploding rollover mayhem. It's actually fairly hard to do. So don't worry. While physics compromises were made in order to make the game "more fun" to a wider audience, it's still more simulator than arcade.

The "one button" racing mode is basically massive assists and auto braking. You still have to steer and hit the gas, but it's designed for super casual quasi car guys that just want to race a pretty car around a track. All assists can be progressively turned off if you like.

Customising has a new "quick option" that allows you to set a PI limit, then bias it in favor of speed or handling, and the game will select a set of upgrades for you. Should make getting a car tuned for a PI limit race easier for the uninitiated.

The DLC plan is for 10 cars a month for the next year. Some of the cars will be things that didn't make it into the release version, like the Ford Escort RS1800 - some will be new cars we haven't seen yet, like the Corvette Gran Sport. I haven't the slightest clue what the track DLC plan is.

That's about it for now off the top of my head that might be interesting to you guys. Cheers.

Logical conclusions one could make:

A. GT5 won't have damage
B. Every car in GT5 except the R35 will have damage
C. The GTR teams makes an exception for PD because they are BFFs
D. GT5 doesn't come out until after the R36 GTR debuts and they don't care about the R35 any more.
E. Africa.

It will actually be fascinating to see what happens. For FM2, Nissan actually paid Turn 10 to have their cars be "featured" in the game (that's why the Altima and Sentra were added, and one of the tracks has much Nissan signage). The prevailing feeling was that Nissan didn't really get their money's worth.....so maybe they're mad at Turn 10

#3

No 24 hour races if that's what your thinking.

Other things that got cut:

Weather
Night/day
Active aero (again!)
Widebody kits with 12 inch wheels
Some really cool driver animations
Some digital gauge animations
Custom underbodies (with rollover comes undercarriage modeling - unfortunately, all the cars use a generic layouts, so sometimes they are wrong; like the Lamborghinis have the transmission rearward of the engine instead of infront, etc.)
Super high level of detail car models in replays (Currently the super high detailed models are used in the UI homespace/garage, thumbnails, livery editor, and photo mode).
No exposed suspension cars like Ariel Atoms, Lotus 340Rs or Caterhams, even though T10 owns PGR and they had the tech to model working suspensions.

Most of the cuts came about because there is immense pressure to hit the release date. There are careers on the line with this one, because FM1 and FM2 were so late. There WILL be a game called FM3 ready to go for October, the only question has been what kind of game it will be.

No WTCC cars,

There will Australian Supercars though, both Holdens and Fords. And NASCAR cars in all their asymetrical glory

#4

Oh yeah. Fox body '93 Cobra R - in.

#5

The new Focus RS and the Fiesta.

Others I forgot to throw in there:

Mercedes AMG ML63
Aston Martin DBS
Alfa Giulia Sprint
'72 Datsun 510
Pontiac G8 GXP
Lotus Evora
BMW 135i
BMW E60 M5
BMW M1 ***HOPEFULLY M1 PROCAR LIKE IN PGR4***
BMW X5 4.8i
BMW Z4M Coupe
'94 Mazda Miata R-package
'78 Pontiac Firebird
Viper SRT10 ACR ***Fastest production car around the Nurburgring in the world***
Chrysler 300C SRT8
Dodge Challenger SRT8
'09 Honda Fit Sport
6th generation VW Golf GTI
VW Scirocco (new one )
Volvo C30 R-Design
Mazda Mazdaspeed3
Citroen C4 VTS
Lexus IS-F
Audi A4 Touring Car (DTM)
Mercedes C-Class Touring Car (DTM)
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe (might be DLC, can't remember)

Stuff coming in DLC:

Lancia 037
Corvette Grand Sport
Toyota ST165 Celica GT4
Ford Escort RS Cosworth ***Yes it is the one you think ***
McLaren Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss
'10 Shelby GT500
Lamborghini Murcielago LP670SV
Mazda RX-3SP
Mitsubishi Starion Turbo
Toyota MR2 Supercharged
'10 Porsche Boxster S
Porsche Panamera
Ferrari 599FX
'64 Chevrolet Impala SS ***We'll be low riding with this one ;D***

Fuck... I'd kill to have the ST185 Celica GT-FOUR in Forza. I don't recall seeing it in 3, but it's by far my favourite of all the AWD Toyotas.

They really should bring back all the FM1 and FM2 tracks they have cut from other games, plus all the new stuff from FM3 and new tracks from FM4

I honestly don't understand why they don't do this. Just do it for shit sakes, it'll make your forza fanbase that much stronger... But what do I know?

Blue mountain was like dancing with my controller, the battles friends and I had on there were some of the best. I'm really tired of racing on laguna seca and the terrible test track, it got old in forza 2.

Hell, import Edinburgh from pgr2! <3 Massive elevation ftw.

Che said it was so that you see as much of the track as possible, and that you shouldn't need to see the dials, since that's why you have a HUD.

Lol, did Che really say that? What a crock of shit! By using the FOV glitch at 80 degrees I can see the dials absolutely fine, but can now also see the whole of my rear-view mirror, half of my driver's side wing mirror, and can actually see cars along side me. I'd say the view of the track is a lot better, too.

I can't believe how much better it is than the default view. If nothing else it just looks more natural, less like I'm leaning forward in my seat.

I'd implore any cockpit users to give it a try, it transforms the game completely.

Soft edit: on the Top Gear thing, the producers admitted a long time ago that it's evolved into an entertainment show that happens to feature cars, rather than a car show with entertainment. A bit like how Forza is evolving into a car game that happens to feature racing...

So there will be a MS community event at Gamescom, and Forza 4 will be there. Hopefully they will show something new, and we'll be able to do videos. I'd like to do more 60 fps stuff...

If it's just the bernese alps again, please try to record a replay from that one track with the tunnel.
Need to see dat lighting !

It seems that most people hating on Top Gear would rather watch a normal Car Review show, which there are plenty. One more boring and sterile than the next. Could also be that people can't accept comedy in conjunction with cars.
One could argune that Top Gear is as sterile and boring as the usual car shows, because it's predictable and scripted to death. The last two seasons were mostly crap, because of this.

I feel the last couple of seasons of Top Gear have been pretty shit to be honest.
It's gone from excellent quality to downright lacklustre.
At least the first several seasons struck a good balance between 'education' and 'entertainment'. It is becoming stale and needs to be taken in a better direction imo.

Was just watching the old top gear shows( pre 2001? format) and was surprised to see how different it was from the current format. Clarkson was still himself albeit with an afro, but there was a lot more information/reviewing going on than there is today. I actually don't mind the older stuff...

Anyway, i'm still excited to see that we have TG in FM4...looking forward to it..

Fifth Gear in the UK is more akin to the old Top Gear format. More cars, less pantomime.

Still not sure what to make of the Top Gear affiliation with Forza. It'll always be in the back of my mind that the resources funnelled into making novelty games like Car Soccer and Bowling would have been better employed recreating Spa or some other, you know, racing environment. Everything comes at a price.

I think people just hate it now because it's mainstream, just like everything else. The band is cool until they go mainsteam and everyone else is into them too.

Not my favoirte show but I don't hate them. They are entertaning and it's always cool watching cars.

A pattern of greatness.

I'm still wishing they'd implement the Salt Flats like some other user mentioned (either in this thread or another). Just a huge open vista and you could just screw around and write stuff in the dust for photomode. Plus really push cars and turning and such. There wouldn't be much to the environment so you could make it HUGE with glorious vistas.

Yep.

FM4: Lost In Space Edition

Dr.Smith will provide the voice over work in this edition with a cameo apperance from The Robot.
Instead of Top Gear stunts, you fight aliens using the Asklon Warthog as the prime combat vehicle...
Available at launch for $165...

So, I ask again (and see Mascot was wondering last page), is that a new track in the second Starion pic? There's no snow and I don't recognize it from FM3.

The first of the two Starion pics is definitely Alps, so imagine both were taken at the same location. The second image might be near the tunnel where there is less snow?

Maybe. Was so hopeful for unrevealed locations.

There are no more unrevealed locations.

The whole budget for new tracks was spent on a three-week Turn 10 jaunt to Switzerland, and in securing the exclusive rights to the Nissan Leaf.

Has TURN 10 confirmed how many discs there will be? I'm assuming its the same two disc setup like FORZA 3- One main disc the core game is on, and then a second disc you have to install to HDD.

I don't think they've confirmed absolutely. But given that the new disc format has more space available per disc and the relative emptiness of FM3's disc 2, I can't see them needing more than 2.

nope, still the bernese alps; there's several parts of the track without snow
i don't think there's anything new besides alps, top gear, infineon, hockenheim and..indianapolis, was it ?
unless the track people thought was infineon isn't in fact indianapolis or sidewinder, which would mean another location we don't know of.

Or unless "locales" from the leaked trailer is used in a broader sense, so maybe "the alps" counts as one but actually includes tracks in italian alps too.

Saw those on FB, I hope they tone down the motion blur for the next racing batch of screenshots. :p
Also, I really hope this bloom won't be my new nightmare in photo mode... :/
Other than that, I know we've already talked about it but I really like the fact that the generic driver is a thing of the past, looks so much better. :)

They already stated at E3 that it was still 2 DVDs.

As for announcements, Skate-zilla posted this over at Forza Central (down at the moment) yesterday :
As for A Bomb being Dropped, theres a few announcements before TGS, and Huge ones at TGS.
IIRC, he's working at a video production company and had seen the (real) E3 trailer before anyone. Still, take that with a grain of salt.

So it's not GC, but TGS? What a bummer.

I've got one as well...sort of.

A guy who worked on the Bernese track posted some information about his work and such. It was asked..

"Those are some great pics..awesome work. By the way, since you worked on the various lighting conditions of the track, is there any night racing or what?"

"Can't talk about that right now"...was the reply..

Take that one with a grain of sugary salt..

Man, I reaaaaally hope there really is some A-bomb jaw-dropping megaton unbe-fukkin'-lievable stuff still to be announced. I'd hate to think Turn 10 don't have a few triple-A surprises for us.
