Forza Motorsport 5 |OT| Open wheel, tyre squeal, orange peel, dat next-gen feel

The "clean lap" marker on this game is just plain broken sometimes. So frustrating - especially around a long lap like Spa.

Not sure I've seen any "unfair" marks against me yet, but there is a cock up on turn 5, you can completely leave the track on the inside without getting a mark against you.

I almost think it's glitched so bad that when you have a "bad lap", it never resets itself. I've tried crawling through the last chicane without making any contact with the curbs and it still doesn't start clean the next lap.

I think it doesn't reset if you make a mistake in the last 3rd or quarter of the track, but before the half way mark it will reset I can attest to that.

Yeah, on some of the tracks the marker for setting the next lap as "dirty" seems to be incredibly far away from the line. Pretty aggravating to get a great start on a lap and see that goddam ! mark.

I can pretty much confirm this is a bug. As soon as you get into dirty lap territory in Rivals mode on this track with this car, it's impossible to get out of it without a restart. Lame.

I'd disagree, having lapped around making laps dirty as sin and getting clean laps a couple of laps later.

You're right. It seems that anywhere on the back straight will cause it to remain on for the next lap, which is silly.

I'm just frustrated. To me the whole "dirty lap" marker is an excuse for poor programming. Surely if your lap is dirty, you shouldn't be able to set a fast time.

As an aside, it's times like this I wish I hadn't put my Playseat and steering wheel up the attic. This car is so hard to drive with a controller.

Just put in a 2:00.566 around Spa. Left at least a second or so on the track, lots of little mistakes. I suspect the winning time will be in the 58's - probably quicker.

I don't see me getting down to 2.05 let alone sub 2 minutes :(

It's one of this circuits where a poorly taken corner will cost you a lot of time given the fast flowing nature of the track. Give it a few laps and you'll be taking corners flat that you were nowhere near before.

I just got into the 59's with a sloppy lap so there is time there for sure.

It's really easy to slow down TOO much in these cars going into corners. Don't be intimidated, just push that bitch. And a LOT of turns you don't even need to brake for. The car loses so much speed when not throttling that you can just coast.

This and the sooner you get on the throttle, the sooner that nose turns into the apex. It's hard to trust that the grip is there sometimes.

No, just saw this as well http://mjr.mn/1hKu37m

Yeah, saw his post last night and am glad to see that we will all be able to play again.

Still can't wait for the new Twitch app tho.

Also, the Geneva show just keeps showing me all these awesome cars I wish we had in F5. Like the new Lambo, the new TT, the new Infinity 4 door GT-R, the new Koeniigiggsisissgggisisgig, the new Type R, etc.

Sorry for asking again but I can't find any answer from when I asked before, but can you access tuning from pre-race screens or do I have to quit out every time just to make a car tweak? can I load a saved car setting before a race at all?

It seems so backwards since forza 2 to not include it or make it obvious.

Also guessing the 600mb update for forza 5 was a car pack?

Yeah, it is stupid but you have to go ALL the way back to the tuning screen if you want to change that stuff. No idea why they did something so stupid.

ah ok so it's not just me then, yes it is silly as not every track uses the same car settings, and if you want to beat the harder drivatars you need a unique car tune.

Fix that shit guerrilla

Heh, i was running 2:03's on spa with stock tune.
But the car always lost grip on the front, just plowing through corners.
So i dumped on full down-force on the front, stiffened the suspension to compensate.
I also noticed that it ran way into negative camber, so i cut that from -2.0 to -0.7 on both rear and front, then i ran a 2.03 from standstill on the first go!

I usually don't tune cars, so it might all be placebo.

Finally landed on 1:58.919 after a few laps \o/
I still feel like i'm understreering.....

Race 1 video is now up. Lots of battles throughout, great stuff guys. http://youtu.be/MzX2rYY9tE0

Awesome as always zorbsie!

The IndyCar sure is a pain in the ass to set up.

There's a decent circuit racer in there somewhere, buried under a pile of understeering misery, but it will take a better tuner and driver than me to find it and make the most of it. I was languishing in the 2:05s for the longest time, but I seem to be closing in on a drivable setup and my best time is currently a 2:02.800. Can't maintain good speed through the final chicane for the life of me, though.

I'll try and make it this Sunday. These cars are a big step up from any we've yet driven in terms of speed, and I wouldn't want to miss the mayhem.

Tell me about it. I've been reverse engineering some old F1 setups that I have used in the past on various other racing games and it hasn't been a pleasant process.

There is a 58 in me I'm sure, but I'm not sure how much quicker I can get.

Anyone tried Yas yet? I put in a 56 yesterday with my Spa setup - it's surprisingly nice to drive once you get into a good flow.

Races on Sunday should be awesome.

would anyone mind sharing their tune? i am no tuner and figured this would boil down to having a decent tune to be competitive.

if you search for "devildoll" you'll find my tune, its just something i put together really fast and is far from complete, or possibly even an improvement.

but it is the one i used to run the 1:58 time, this is what it looks like in action.

Damn, it sounds like I really need to spend some time tuning these monsters. I have been so caught up in the South Park game, I haven't played Forza in a WHILE.

Doing this with all assist off is hard work!

Best I've done is a dirty 2:08 and my best clean was 2:15. I don't want to add any assist just for the principle.
