DETROIT (WXYZ) - Action News sources say four Detroit police officers have been shot inside the Northwest District on the city's west side. The district office is located near Warwick and Plymouth and houses both the 6th and 8th precincts.

We're told a man walked into the lobby and opened fire. He was killed by police.

The conditions of the officers are not known. A source says one of the officers is a commander, one is a patrolman. the other is a clerk.

They were rushed to Sinai Grace.

Police sources tell Action News that the gunman walked into station just as any citizen can do. They say the shooter walked past the desk and fired down a hallway hitting a female sergeant in the chest. Sources say she was wearing a bulletproof vest and should be OK.

Police tell Action News that the gunman then shot a second officer in the side of the face and neck.

Sources say a precinct commander then grabbed the wounded sergeant’s gun and exchanged shots with the gunman. The commander was then shot in the back.

Next, the gunman jumped over a counter to attempt to shoot more officers. At that point, other officers opened fire, killing him.

A camera inside the precinct captured images of the shooting and sources who have seen that video say it is graphic.

Story Here

Wow :( I hope the officers make it.

Wow, that's fucking horrible. I wonder why the woman who was shot was wearing a bulletproof vest inside the police station.

Geez...that's like something out the Terminator.

Hope everyone is alright.

May have just gone or been preparing to go to the firing range? I believe wearing vests is standard conduct for officers at the range.

Oh, I read the title as if four cops had shot at a police station, not shot in one. This is way worse.

It's Detroit yo.
came to say this.

time to bring in OCP for real. Detroit is a hellhole. You guys think we're exaggerating when we say that...but we very much aren't. I wouldn't wish Detroit on anyone. Suburbs are fine, though.

Damn.

I know this can happen anywhere or whatever...but what the fuck is wrong with Detroit? Seriously...why is it so bad?

high unemployment, high poverty, no hope of jobs returning because it's a hellhole, drugs, terrible weather

The city was built to be one big gigantic urban sprawl, outside of some key areas, and those are divided up by freeways, so its near impossible to walk, plus a lack of public transit. The riots happened, people distanced themselves from each other, segregating themselves into various suburbs and the city. The auto industry has taken several nose dives since then, each time leaving the city with higher unemployment, poverty, and crime. Attempts to restart the auto industry generally lead to building on top of what neighborhoods are still intact.

pretty much. and to add:

-Dependency on a single industry (for decades)
-White-flight (some decades ago, but still impacting the city daily)
-Strength of suburbs (robbing Detroit of a lot of tax money and services)
-Governmental corruption (for decades)
-Fiscal budget mismanagement (for decades)
-High corporate taxes
-Talent moving out of the state (and taking the tax revenue that they represent with them)
-City being too big for their tax base (function of people leaving the city and only poor/lower-middle class remaining)

My guess is the guy had some pending charges and was going to go down for a long time, so he went out with a bang

The first thing I thought. That and if Officer Murphy was involved too.

Is this the third shooting in America in about the space of a month or two?

Damn, hope those officers make it through...

Horrible news, but I don't see why adding that sergeant was female needed to be in the story. Like male police officers don't get hurt when they're shot? It isn't relevant and implies that the male officers getting shot isn't as big a deal. A woman police officer isn't any more valuable or noteworthy because of her gender. Her work should be noted, nothing else. Anyone who thinks otherwise is nuts. They can list names or ranks, but listing gender is just dumb.

If we had three shootings in one month, that would be a godsend.

I think you're reading too much into it, honestly.

Lol. We have three shootings in major metro areas daily.

That's what I was thinking. I know the courthouse has them. But in the end, I don't really know how our society can stop a nut with a gun from hurting people, especially if he doesn't care for his own safety.

I think it's time Detroit stops living up to its Sim City fame. Maybe they need to try and fix their shit.

STOP THE PRESSES EVERYONE! This is the REAL story!!!

Let's close this thread and make a new one about it.

Why would someone do that? Weird for me to say, but I hope it was just an isolated insane person and not some ramped-up gang initiation, or some weird intent to scare the police from doing their job, or any other "meaningful" motivation.

Har har. I was just noting it, and I see it in a lot of stories. It isn't a big deal, but I noticed it so I brought it up. It's not worth derailing the thread, and not worth a lawsuit from OCP. So I'll drop it.

I bet someday a new weapon will be developed that can stop someone with a gun and yet won't hurt bystanders should it miss. Don't ask me what it would be though.

Because most people when they hear "police officer" they think of a male cop. Sometimes you have to write the gender to be more specific.

Because taking off your uniform every time you enter the station just to remove your vest is retarded. Seriously, police officers wear vests underneath their shirts. She doesn't have the option of removing it whenever she enters the precinct.

That aside, can't say I feel sorry for them. They're cops.
