Especially in Detroit. Not like that stuff ever happens up there, anyways...Boogie said:Yeah! The world would be so much better off if there were no one to respond to 911 calls, no organization that investigates murders, fraud, child pornography, rape, assault, human smuggling, drug deal--oh wait, this is GAF, nevermind.
So much better if there were no organization tasked with arresting drunk drivers, responding to domestic disturbances and assaults, of stopping riots, of responding to gun calls, dealing with the mentally ill who go off on rampages...
Fantastic ending.Blackace said:I was about to say the same thing about you...
I thought about that too, I'm guessing he tried to shield the downed sargeant with his body while reaching for her gun, got shot in the back then turned around and shot at the guy and missed.rainking187 said:I'm kind of confused as to how the officer that was shooting at the guy managed to get shot in the back.

An update to a sad story now gives it a positive twist as the officers are doing well.
And to top it off, the troll of the thread got banned.
Cheers everyone.
Edit: Although that last bit about the burglary wasn't nice to hear. :/
Livonia Police Officer Larry Nehasil died Monday evening in Walled Lake, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound fired by a burglary suspect who had stolen the pistol moments earlier, according to Mayor Jack Kirksey.
For a city that prides itself as one of the safest in the nation, Nehasil's death -- the first felonious officer fatality in the police department's history -- came as a shock to friends, peers and the community.
"I can't begin to describe the deep grief that (fellow officers) are experiencing," Kirksey told host Paul W. Smith this morning on WJR-AM 760, describing Nehasil as a personal friend.
"Police units typically are very close, and their camaraderie goes beyond imagination. And when they lose one..." he said, trailing off as he broke up.
Nehasil and a small group of fellow undercover officers were tracking two men and a woman tied to a number of home break-ins in Livonia and the surrounding region, Kirksey said. The officers learned the suspects had been evicted from their residence in Detroit and had set up shop in Walled Lake, where they attempted to rob a home across the street while under investigation.
Kirksey said Nehasil, clearly marked as an officer, followed one of the male suspects into the backyard as the other loaded stolen goods into a car parked in the driveway. It was there, in a small wooded area behind the house, authorities say the suspect opened fire with a pistol he had just stolen from inside the house.
"It sends shivers down your spine," Kirksey said. "There was an exchange of shots and Larry's fellow officers rushed around to the back of the home where they found Larry and the perpetrator dead. Larry had his vest on, but it was just the way he was hit."
Nehasil was a 20-year veteran of the force and previously worked for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
"My heart goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of this dedicated public servant," Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon said Monday night in an e-mail message. "He stood in the gap to protect others from harm and for that Officer Nehasil will always be remembered as a hero."
I don't think much else can be said for that story. A thankless job that doesn't get enough recognition.Dreams-Visions said:damn. :-(
Haha good work. Anyway very happy to hear these four are OK.Blackace said:I was about to say the same thing about you...

10 officers shot in 24 hours, as well as 2 officers who were killed on Thursday in Miami.
Shit's pretty nasty out there.

The gun the suspect killed him with was stolen from the residence he had broken into minutes earlier
Wow thats fucking crazy... dude jumped the counter and everything. Can't believe none of the cops died there.Roude Leiw said:
How was he still walking after the officer shot him? Adrenaline?Roude Leiw said:
It's not naive, maybe just ignorant. I would guess that the main reason they don't have metal detectors it makes it harder to walk in and out if you have to check in your service pistol every time but apparently this police station has now put in metal detectors.Boogie said:Dammit, where's the lol emoticon when you need it?
The musings of the naive...
I don't think I've ever heard of metal detectors at entrances to police stations, dudes.

PhoenixDark said:No fucking way the police would simply tail theft suspects like that if they were black. They'd be stopped, searched, and arrested immediately. In no way am I suggesting the police officer brought this on himself, but having visited Livonia many times I know how things go down there.

LaserBuddha said:You have absolutely no idea whether he was tailed because he was white, or if him being black would have made anything different. You don't know this cop, and can't make assumptions about him any more than you can about any other human being. Shove your assumptions right up your ass where you pulled them from.
