Freedom Wars |OT| Vita's imprisonment for million years

Okay one more question: Whats the combat like? Is there a good variety of weapons? Is there a nice combo system? Is it more on the fast paced or slower past side?
Think Lost Planet in an arena setting with 'Hunter'-like melee combat.

- Gunplay is very reminiscent of the first two LPs.

- Your character has a "thorn" item from the start that is very similar to the grappling hook in the first two LPs. You can use it to latch onto enemies and attack specific parts... as you could in the first two LPs.

- Melee combat is closer to 'Hunter' style games. It is slower (unless you use the thorn to latch on and propel yourself) and allows chaining and charging.

It's an interesting mix of the third person shooter and hunter genres. As a big fan of Lost Planet 2, I'm really enjoying this game.

What. I had no idea the Lost Planet games were like this. In fact, I have Lost Planet 1 sitting in front of my Xbox right now. Time to get playing!

Is anyone else having problems with the online modes? I can't connect to a single game. My connection is fine but I keep getting booted out of lobbies in FW for some reason. I was relying on online to keep this game going. :(

Do you guys have any tips for fighting more than one Abductor? I am having a hard time with managing the AI through commands, constantly reviving my accessory so it doesn't get taken, and being juggled/killed by one abductor while trying to kill sever the limb of the other.

The juggling gets quite annoying with the optional missions on code 5. I just changed my control scheme which should help and I am getting better at crafting, so I am slowly doing more damage.

With two, I generally try to divide and conquer. Occupy and dwindle down one abductor while the rest of my party takes down the other one.

Order you squad mates to scatter. Usually ends you fighting 1 abductor while the other team fights the other one (if the space is open enough)

That is another problem I am having. Knowing what the commands do. Some are obvious, while others don't have enough detail.

Trying to set elements on my weapon has been super annoying and I'm starting to get tired of it. Getting random element up and element down modules completely messes with the values, and I'm now at a point where I have an element up for everything but fire, which has 2 different element down. I have no clue what my elements are supposed to be at anymore.

Edit:

Single element S = 5, M = 10, L = 15, XL = 20
All Element S = 2, M = 4, L = 6, XL = 8

Since they're not percent based, they're easy to factor out, except Downs when you have a low amount of the element, of course.

Thank you very much for that! Guess I better put all this on a piece of paper so I can keep track of it.

truthfully you dont really need to bother with the element stuff since its not even that well implemented into the game lol

Fun fact: I've noticed that all-purpose abductors have a sort of "blind spot" on their lower spine where you can cling to them and they'll try to grab you but won't be able to.

They waste a lot of time trying to, though, so you can hang on safely for a lot longer than usual.

I've seen a abductor suffering from the electric element once during the game.

That one's got a really low proc rate. That said, Ice procs extremely often and makes attacks count for like 1.5x lol. Will'O procs pretty often too, but it's just a burst of damage.

I've noticed that too. Its ridiculous how utterly useless the elemental stuff is - I don't even think its worth the investment. Especially when you typically see elemental abductors of different types during the same operations.

Also - late game stuff:

Yes. It is really, really upsetting to finally see that the enemies turn into DPS races more than anything else. Its not even a #gitgud thing at all. Unless you're pouring enough damage on you'll be having trouble as early as CODE 6. Really frustrating too because upgrading everything to catch up can take a while

<pause>

and before people go on about the the "use a civilian! duh :D" stuff, that still doesn't help when it comes to the tryfailtryfailtryfailtryfailtryfailtryfailtryfailfinally that is weapon manufacturing and modifying. You'll still be wasting a ton of time to get the level 1 stuff (how hard would it be to allow people to break down high level abductor parts for lower level? or at least some sort of trade down system... pls)

still love the game though.

DY_nasty you should really try SSD if you like this.

Also is anyone online I feel like knocking down a few missions, my baraba gun now does 1k damage.

I see an abductor get electrocuted about once per missions now. And it feels like they are constantly catching on fire (due to fire elemental weapons?).

In other news, my accessory has revived me one too many times and is now kindly reminding me at every opportunity to stop getting killed. It seems to be working as now I'm remembering to jump off abductors before they do their big attacks.

Can anyone confirm if the accessory missions count towards the special operations trophy? I doubt they do, but I'm having a hard time finding a good group online. The search room feature could be a lot better.

edit: Whew, just did the one where with several abductors, imitation red rage, and you have to kill the Bee target

probably a stupid question but what the hell is Will'O? I'm at the CODE 5 exam now and saw it mentioned a few times but I have no idea what it is or does.

I don't really consider any of this a spoiler since there's no important plot around it, nor is it really explained well to my knowledge lol, hell I still don't know any intricacies. But I'll spoiler tag it anyway because why not. Just a basic explanation of what little I know of Will'O.

I think, to the extent of our current knowledge, it's a form of energy. It's what powers Abductors and Accessories, fuels the Ibara and also what materializes our weapons(the black box we carry into battle gives the weapons form, and the items themselves are like blueprints - think that's explained early on. Why the hell do we need so many materials to make blueprints >.< Someone copy them and just give us sinners an easier time taking down other PTs dammit!)

I think the source of Will'O is currently an unknown. The name suggests a connection to the spirit, imo, though.

On another note, Will'O in element form is weird to me, because all Abductors are powered by it, it should be neutral in theory but it seems to be placed in the wheel as weak to lightning, strong to fire. The non elemental abductors may even be resistant to it x.x It would make sense if you're basically overloading a part with excess Will'O, causing an explosion in the process, that it would work on all of them equally lol.

A couple of frustrations tonight.

I had a good co-op session going, helping some newer players and the game straight up, yank the cartridge out of the NES style crashed.

Then I was in a game with a higher level group. We were doing a special mission. Took down a really powerful abductor. Next thing I know, one of the other players says "Nice work" and everyone leaves the game. Two more abductors spawn and juggle my accessory and me for a few minutes. Game Over.

Oh well. I made it to CODE 4. I'm taking my sweet time, I know. It's nice to have the option to customize my accessory now.

One thing that really sucks is that there are almost no resources about this game. No guides, not much talk about it, etc. I keep trying to look up information and help for certain things, and I've never seen so little info about a game.

edit: Ugh.. The game keeps not giving me credit for the DO:_____ missions when I do them online. Is it because someone else is picking them? It's the 3rd time it has happened.

edit 2: Wtf? Just did 7-8 for a second time, and it still says I haven't completed it.

Yes, you need to pick (talk to Natalia) the mission for it to show as 'Complete' in your menu.

Are the elemental bipeds considered to be All-Purpose regarding drops?
I need tons of synth generators mk2, but I'm tired of doing 4-3 and there's a mission on CODE 5 with a bunch of elemental bipeds mk 2.

edit: thanks Shengar!

Yep, they drop All-Purpose Bipeds loot too. I think I got one of my synth generators mk2 from them actually. Do remember that they tend to grab, a lot.

Tried online co-op today.
It was really fun! My connection kept me lagging somewhat though. I kept running all over the place trying to heal my teammates and they... well... teleport.

Might do it again sometime soon-ish.

Yup the game is fun solo, but co op is really where it's at. Not a big fan of the PvP.

Pretty sure I'll need to upgrade my weapons a bit before trying the boss again. I've mostly been running through the game with a slow and steady approach, taking the time to kill the abductors and what not. This guy though, taking my time just seems to get me killed. -_-

Got the hang of the game after finding a control scheme that worked well for me. I read a lot of you guys prefer the Technician set, but I was really struggling with it. Marksman works more intuitive for me.
Really having a blast with the game, combat is so badass!

On a side note, the Citizen Voice only shows the '24 hrs Surveillance" image, I've tried updating it several times now but it won't show me anything else. Am I missing something?

I'm downloading the game right now. Any tipps and advice for a new beginner?
I'm only CODE 3 so far, so more seasoned players will have more advice, but:
-Point the Thorn at the Abductors legs to make them fall down easier.
-Your Accessory has unlimited ammo. Give them a heavy damage weapon like a rocket launcher.

Alright, I'm up to the end of the game (already know about the final boss) however
Natalia said it'll also be the code 8 exam, yet I don't actually have the requirements for code 8 yet.
Do I actually need to hit the requirement before starting? Also, are there partner restrictions for those missions? I stupidly
put a lot of my contribution points into levelling up Beatrice's gear, but obviously I can't use her. Can I at least use Marie and Natalia? Otherwise I'm going to be forced into the final boss with a bunch of level 1-3 partners in addition to barely upgraded weapons.

So, I'm kind of stuck on mission 3-4. It's an escort mission, (uggh...)

My abductor just keeps on getting stuck and won't move towards the beacon. I'll move the beacon up to the next turn in the road, and then hang out by his feet and clear out all enemies, but he still won't move. Is there anyway I can kickstart him?

The beacon gets turned off sometimes and you have to thorn it to make it work again.

Couple questions...

What is the easiest mission to fight a paradoxa and a dionaea solo for the trophies? Any strategy tips?

I know where peltatum is.. Any tips solo? I've heard people talk about cheesing or an "entrance trick" but I haven't seen any explanation.

Check out the 'Showdown Operations' in your Contribution Directory, those let you fight a singular enemy of a specific type (with help of Comrades if you want). I can't remember how/when they become available though.

CT813 = Paradoxa
DS816 = Dionaea
XX815 = Oltatum (counts as well) has more favourable ammo box spawn locations over 7-5

NB: the Imitation Red Rage in DS814 doesn't drop Red Rage Mk 2 stuff (at least not for me) so isn't good for farming materials for high level weapon upgrades.

Woah, did not know this. Thanks!

I have 813 and 815 unlocked, but no 816 yet
(I haven't done any CODE 8 stuff yet so maybe that's why)

Can someone please explain the trick to soloing the final boss? I have never played a game with so little information online. No youtube videos, no guides, no gamefaq, nothing. People keep mentioning a trick to doing it, but whatever I'm doing just isn't working and the boss is so goddamn frustraing.

I know I'm suppose to destroy those boxes, but he keeps sending the chains out too quickly and the NPCs are useless.

If I hide in the entrance, the chains just AOE me and the NPCs down over and over.

Spoiler tagging just because.

After a box is broken, the chain that belongs to it cannot be respawned. Chains are also very easily dragged down and the claw/head is a notable weak spot. Drag it down and unload into its head and it's easy.

I think the chains are released at intervals based on its health. The first two waves(2 chains then 3 more) are usually pretty close to each other. If you break a box, its chain is released right then and there.

If you aren't powerful enough to just blow through the fight, then you'd need to try to manage the chains as you go. Try to at least break one box and deal with its chain before a wave to keep the number down a bit, when the chains come out, try to take them down.

It may also pay to simply upgrade your weapon more. Really, that's a huge deal. And getting Power Up L + XL modules is like a 50% damage boost, too. Honestly, this is probably the thing that would make the greatest difference for many.

Shield thorn has a defense buff as its stage 1 charge which is also helpful for keeping yourself alive lol.

Oh my god. I had 4 boxes/chains down. He fell down on my whole team, and my teammates just stood there and didn't revive me even though I had everyone set to prioritize revival.

God. Dammit.

WOW again. why are the NPCs so bad? If they are set to prioritize revival they don't do any damage... They refuse to rez me from a distance, so once a chain starts spinning over me there's no way to rez.

So, I'm super interested in this game. How essential is the online to enjoy it though? Is the online something you have to try and pre-make a group for, or is there some form of matchmaking?
