Now since he is trying to manufacture his sons career, he thinks this will make people like his son more, so that he can inherit his fathers place.

That's the prevalent narrative, yeah.

How close to reality it might be here in 2015 is up for debate, though.

I'd argue that the attempt to manufacture his son's career has failed and won't be pursued any further, thanks to the one two punch of After Earth and his son's public behavior.

Crazy, same capitals, punctuation and everything.

Legacy of the show?

Why do people act like this show was great? It's Fresh Prince we're talking about here, not Seinfeld.

It's legitimately funny at times and has messages that are still relevant today. All while having a cast of characters that is uncommon in sitcoms.

I never watched fresh prince as a kid. I know the cast, Carlton dance, throwing Jaz out the house, and why he dont want me but I wouldnt be able to tell you anything else about the show beyond that.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
I'm going to come out and say it: the first Aunt Viv sucked. I didn't like her. Uncle Phil needed a contrast to his already tough demeanor, and there was none. There were just two stuffy and uptight parents. The second Viv was a more balanced who went with the flow of things, but wasn't afraid to scold the kids (ex: Ashley running away).

Also, little known fact, the last episode of the show was originally intended to be the ending of season 4 (I believe it was) when Will decided to stay in Philly after visiting his mom. That was the end of the show officially (it was canceled). But the outpour of letters and demands was so tremendous over the summer, the show returned.

Fresh Prince was everything.

Always hated seinfield, couldn't relate to that shit. I can understand why others enjoyed it though

I think this is very important, while Fresh Prince did have many amazing episodes dealing with race (one of the ones i remember the most is that episode where Carlton and Will are racially profiled by a cop and Carlton doesn't understand that the cop had a race bias against him and thought the cop was in the right, i thought it was a powerful episode), the show was still relatable to mostly everyone, the core of the story in the end still was "Fish out of water story where humble character moves in with rich upper class relatives" and could be enjoyed by everyone, it wasn't just "some black show".

Seinfeld is like "White american: the show".

I want it to star Jaden Smith, as the son of the original's Will, doing the stupid shit Jaden is doing as of right now. So? Will ships him off to Uncle Carlton.

Don't even care - reboot it. If it's good, it will find an audience.

More sitcoms with black people and other people of color on major networks at relevant hours PLEASE and THANK YOU. Reboot A Different World while you're at it (even though it's tainted by Cosbyness now :().

It's not like many of the other shows on non-premium TV are so amazing where these reboots/remakes/revivals are not worth at least trying.

has anyone brought this up?

I think a reverse fresh prince would be great, rich black kid goes to poor/lower middle class neighborhood . DO IT WILL

The finales for season 4, 5 and 6 were all designed to have a "series finale" vibe, as its continuation was always on the bubble.

Also, while the ratings for the initial broadcasts weren't great, ratings on re-runs were doing amazing (relatively). So they stood to make more money in syndication, which also really helped their decision for two more seasons. Same thing happened with Family Guy (re-runs on cable were beating Leno/Letterman at one point IIRC).

How could you not notice... there was a stark comparison in their skin complexion.

It's really hard not to notice man.

I don't mean from a visual perspective - I just legit did not remember the other actress, so I either didn't see many episodes from the latter three seasons or legitimately forgot they existed.

I obviously know there's a difference, and the more I think back the more I remember it (and when I looked up clips I definitely was familiar w/ Reid's voice), but I just completely forgot about it (I suppose some element of it is just because the original Viv was just a much stronger and more memorable character).

That's all I meant!

It's going to be what we all made up around the time Jaden started to get screen time. Will sends his spoiled ass kid to go live in the hood with Carlton, who runs a non-profit in the city. He learns things along the way. Hood things.

You always have the correct way of framing and putting shit in perspective Bobby.
It comes with his age wisdom.
Cracked already has the cover ready.

I would love a take with these two.

Though as much as I love the original show, I feel indifferent. Another day another reboot, I guess.

Why??? You can still watch this show on Netflix and its just as enjoyable as when it came out. They don't need to bother remaking it, because it hasn't lost anything over the past 20 some odd years!

I'm ambivalen towards this. Fresh Prince was my jam growing up but I don't want it to tarnished by a shitty sequel. Really hope Will Smith is going to be on point as much as possible to make it good.

Seinfeld is shit.
