FromSoftware Announces The DuskBloods - Switch 2 Exclusive

If Duskblood has a similar game design to Escape from Tarkov, then you'll get dropped into an instance, fight bosses and other enemies in the world, loot and survive the encounters. You'll occasionally run into other players making each run much harder as you fight to survive against everything trying to kill you. Once you've looted enough from your battles or are ready to get out of the instance, you'll need to find an extraction point to get out alive. If you die, you lose everything, if you get out with your loot, you can stash it or gear up with it as you prepare for the next instance.

Nightreign is leans more into the battle royale multiplayer design, with closing zones and character classes in a team of 3. Resources and buffs looted/gained in each session is limited to that session.

I think both could be fun but I'm definitely digging world and character designs of Duskblood way more.

The frantic pace of Nightreign kills it for me.

8 players in Duskblood worries me and my thoughts are clouded after the Nightreign beta so I might be overly harsh.

I'm just glad not a lot of Miyazaki's creative processing power is wasted on this shit.
Miyazaki's blood went into this game. Show some respect.

8 players seems reasonable when I try to think about the scope of each instance. Having more players in each instance could present balancing issues in terms of loot distribution and boss/enemies encounters, unless they respawn but I doubt they would. Escape from Tarkov is 8-13 players per instance. It might be the better game to play between this and Nightreign if you prefer playing solo, that is if this even is anything like an extraction shooter (I've convinced myself it is).

I was sold on the idea of beckwards compatibility. Since I missed out on switch one entirely. Between all the retro stuff and the new stuff. This was the icing on the cake. Plus…… arcade perfect ridge racer 2. F zero GX….. I'm sold. I gotta pre order a switch 2.

i don't understand why Nintendo settled with a multiplayer soul game instead of a regular sp entry ?

Maybe FROM just wasn't willing to make a proper single player game for them, and Nintendo decided having an exclusive FROM game was still worth the price even if it's some multiplayer game.

Unless Nintendo is willing to pay a ton of money it'd be dumb to make a proper AAA souls game exclusively on Switch when they have a massive established audience on Playstation, Xbox and PC. Meanwhile this seems like a smaller scale and more experimental project, and they can offset some of the risk by having Nintendo pay for the exclusivity.

It's not that I think 8 players is too few, the opposite really. I just think it makes the focus of the game PVP and that doesn't sound terribly appealing or at the very least, not why I love From's games.

Fromsoftware was: lets throw all the past ideas, lvl designs in a hat and pick them blindly.

I see reused assets from ER, Bloodborne, DS. One time you think its BB and in the next scene you see ER

I think it will be entirely dependent on how well the maps are designed. More enemy encounters or more player interactions will be decided by the size and design of the maps/dungeons. I doubt they'll nail it, it'll need a lot of user feedback and patches before it feels right.

I'm not terribly familiar with extraction shooters so it might just be my lack of knowledge talking.

"Developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2; 'THE DUSKBLOODS' is a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes.

Play as the "Bloodsworn"; a group that has transcended human strength thanks to their special blood, and throw yourself into a violent fray for "First Blood" as the twilight of humanity approaches."

Genre: Multiplayer Action

Online: Up to 8 Players

Yeah, this is definitely not for me. Super disappointed 😞

Seriously don't understand the frothing at the mouth over these From Software games. It looks like absolute shit

I'm not that familiar with them either to be fair. I've played a couple, but it's just like any other multiplayer really in the sense that level design can make or break the experience.

That's part of it but so is character progression. And Nightreign's character progressions was pretty unappealing even if I understand the design decision.

It will be interesting to see what they do with this here. Because progression will be measured by the loot you manage to extract with if it is an extraction game. What that loot is, is beyond my imagination, it has to be far more than cosmetic loot surely.

That deal only happened at the tail end of December 2024. Nintendo was already talking about a partnership with From Software in their financials report from November. This predates Kadokawa trying to be acquired, just like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo were PS5 (timed) exclusives because Bethesda inked that deal before the Microsoft acquisition.

Yeah thats what I assumed tbh, Im not sure I believe it will stay exclusive though. Guess time will tell.
More importantly its literally NOTHING like Bloodborne so I hope that stupid knee jerk comparison stops. Gothic cities have been in every Soulsborne game…

Seems from software just found another excuse not to upgrade their godawful engine with the switch 2....
Gonna be interesting to see how well a game like this can sell on Nintendo hardware.

Me: Woah, Nintendo landed the spiritual successor to Bloodbone! That's a kick in the teeth for Sony.

Nintendo: It's a multiplayer game.

Me: Oh, nevermind.

Could be something like Mikami/Capcom doing exclusives on the GCN.

There are definitely on the record comments from Mikami on how he enjoyed working w/ Nintendo, etc. That could be an element at play; simply wanting to work with Nintendo on something exclusive.

Oh Come On GIF by Saturday Night Live

Yeah, definitely not what I'm looking for when it comes to From.

Incredibly hype trailer but I never play these games for PvP so I can probably skip it unless there's a dedicated solo mode.

ridge racer 2

It's only Ridge Racer 1 for the moment. No brainer buy for me though. Hopefully at some point we'll get an official home port of Rave Racer.

We have this mp game our 16yr old intern has been working on ... throw some millions at us and Miyazaki san will slap his name on it and buy a new yacht.
I keep seeing this sort of comment flying around since this announcement. 'It's a side project', 'B team working on this' etc. This is very much a Miyazaki game, a game that he wants to make. There was an interview someone linked to a few pages back from a few years ago, probably around the same time this game was conceived. Miyazaki clearly states he is highly observant of multiplayer technologies and game design, and is a fan of Escape from Tarkov. Let it go guys, this is the reality of your beloved developer, either support or ignore.

Exactly.... a fun side project to win some Nintendo bucks ... nothing wrong we all like money

I seriously doubt this will remain exclusive forever but it's a great get! I am super hyped already! !!

After the Elden Ring sales, I can't imagine how much Nintendo paid for a full exclusive. I'm guessing it's a timed exclusive. And where is the blood? Better be buckets. The graphics are fugly af, hopefully we get a big upgrade when it comes to PC.

So.. if this is a multiplayer game, I will have to pay for that shitty Nintendo online service to play it? Damn, that's a shame. I'll obviously do it, but I hate that consoles makes you pay for basic shit like this.
Depends. Switch has a literal MMO you don't need Nintendo online to play (palia)

From my own personal experience, it seems to be all over the place. Some Nintendo games allow me to play online without an online membership, others require it

Holy shit the hyperbole in this thread. If you're a fan of souls games … has Miyazaki ever failed you? Give it a chance. The rest of you ass hats can go back to playing cod and spider man ffs.

I'm going to assume both this and Nightreign are 2-3 year projects to get new hires up to speed / work on multiplayer tech / keep some resources busy while the next mainline soulslike is being ramped up to full production. That's the only explanation I find rational.

The downside to this is that FROM is taking some pretty big reputation hits from a lot of people-I hope it's worth the risk (Especially with Shadow of the Erdtree reviews being mixed on Steam, which needs to also be thrown on the pile of negativity...)

Likely been in production before the Elden RIng launch.

Kinda disagree on the ugly remark. People were comparing this to Bloodborne and while I like the look of Bloodborne more, if this isn't straight up bullshots, this IQ is clean, better than Bloodborne anyway. THough that's not really saying a lot, given that Bloodborne is ten years old. Still though, I hope the framrate hold sup better than that game as well as having better IQ
