NK is a place on Planet Earth, it is controlled by Humans not aliens from Saturn, people in NK need to realize they must stand up and stop fearing other humans.
Also realize the fact that their are more of them than those controlling the country, bet even the military can switch if they see people starting a revolution, that has happened many times in history.
But if they sit around accepting it and having PBS document their nightmare and not a revolution, this Kimmy regime will be there ruling them eternally.
You really have to ask why the US hasn't taken NK down?
China and South Korea in simple terms. China doesn't want American troops on its border, nor does it want the refugees that will arise from such action. South Korea wants Seoul to continue to exist, and it won't want the refugees either.

When did I ever suggest that the USA should take them out? I've offered no solutions because I don't have any. It's a remarkably complex subject and there is no easy solution, despite your insistence otherwise.

That's not the point. Then you have MILLIONS of refugees that no country in the area is able to support. And they have been indoctrinated since birth about their 'conditions'. They may have a sense that it is bad but they are basically abused people without the rationale to really think that things 'could be different'.

What dream? These people don't know what else is out there. If you were born and kept in a box and told this is your life, you would most likely accept it. See abused children, significant others, etc ... this isn't somebody you can just show a picture and expect their entire being to be changed.

Just wanted to say I had a chance to watch the docu. It is really interesting to see the positive effects that information smuggling is having on the general populace and breaking them free a bit from the propaganda they've been fed their entire lives.
I wish there was a way they could quantify the impact. Like it is relatively easy to see a handful of people getting outside info and breaking free of those shackles in a docu. But it is more interesting to me to know if smuggling is causing change like this in 2% of the population or 65% or whatever. Even with such a perception change it is going to get worse before it gets better. If the populace ever does revolt (or even a means to be organized enough to revolt emerges), it is going to be a massacre as the Kims try to hold onto power or whoever in the military envisions taking over is just as brutal initially.
And I just wanted to say 'holy hell' to the fully stocked store that is nothing but a complete front. Insane! So people are 'employed' there and stand there in front of a ton of goods that aren't for sale when most of the country starves...

Revolutions have happen many times in history, if NK humanity doesnt spark one what can the world do?, they cant rush in there based off PBS propaganda.
The US cares. China retaliating would be a huge problem economically and/or militarily. Also, how do you make it easier? It's not like the US would have to shoulder any of the aftermath (ie millions of malnourished, brainwashed, completely unskilled refugees at their border the next day) that China and South Korea would be left to clean up.
That was utterly insane. I don't even see the point, like how does it make things seem prosperous? Why even build a store if they could just as easily build a set and tear it down later?

No, you're completely wrong. It's not a 'choice' really if you don't know what all the options are. It's almost like arguing with a religious fanatic (not a religious person, a fanatic). Where they have a belief system so deep over years of indoctrination that it's really not possible to explain.
This is changing, as more and more people in NK are becoming aware (actual numbers are probably extremely low) so to a point, you are right, once they actually know of the choices. But for the people that do not know the choices, what exactly are they going to 'fight for'?

I haven't seen anyone in this thread or on PBS state NK citizen or leaders are not human.
It doesn't make any sense? A lot of things in this world don't make initial logical sense. Stockholm Syndrome? The dehumanizing conditions and actions that occurred in Nazi concentration camps? Cult members killing themselves because a leader tells them the mothership is arriving? None of that makes rational sense. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
We have little evidence of what life is like in NK as you say...correct. But when scant video evidence does emerge, rational humans should at least look at that evidence and weigh its merits. Unlike you who is dismissing it out of hand because...real people...humans...not cyborgs!! There is nothing in these videos that suggests they are fabricated or have anything to do with us thinking the NKs aren't human.
I have no doubt that NK has such places. Online accounts of people who have taken Chinese-based tours have expressed as much in the past. It's just that to me, maybe it's because I've lived in the West my whole life, that they could simplify the whole process by just having a studio/sound stage 'town' set up to film for propaganda instead of actual towns/shops that North Koreans can visit in person that would seemingly undermine their entire existence.
If anything, I can completely understand a NK citizen working in such a place, real or not. It's the people behind such a store whose thinking I don't get.

They show a poor woman running a taxi business rather than "not making business". They show recently emerging food/capitalist markets rather than not "earning money working'.
