No one is saying that North Korea is the United States' military equal.
But they have weapons of mass destruction and are 120 miles from one of the largest cities on the planet.
Surely you can see the quandary.
They wouldnt even have a chance to launch them...

That was an illuminating episode. One of the biggest takeaways for me was the rising unhappiness with Un's leadership amongst the people. The videos of the women confronting the male police officers were chilling and made me fear for their lives ending at any moment. One of the more enigmatic things I saw were of the teenage girls watching the smuggled videos. It seemed like such a crazy thing to risk ones life and what freedom they may have for. I was able to find some level of understanding when I began to compare it with things teenagers, or even adults for that matter, do here in the states regardless of whether its illegal or not such as pot and under-age drinking. I'm not trying to cast any form of moral judgment but rather contextualize the idea that people we value their freedom are the ones who will push it past its limit to live freely and often dismiss the safeguards that we or those who control us have put in place to dissuade us from doing so.
Yeah that part had me in fear of what would come next to be honest.
And the part at the lunch party where the woman was being very open about freedoms and how even China had had its cultural revolution etc. Just the political nature of it all had me thinking "jeez lady, are you sure you can trust who you're saying this too? I don't want to see you dragged away in this video!"
It would take time to build up our forces. NK would notice and hunker down.

Yeah the U.S would win in a straight up war, but Seoul would get shelled, hundreds of thousands/millions of north Koreans would be killed and then there is the issue of millions of brainwashed, starving refugees.
War with north korea doesn't lead to any good for anyone.
And then you gotta hope it doesn't end up like Iraq with an insurgency.
Not to mention the possibility of Seoul or other South Korean cities being nuked.

reading the op the concept of a prison camp the size of a small state is insane. haven't had a chance to watch this yet can't wait. Nk scares me but that country is interesting just the same.

Awesome. I totally came into this thread the day after it aired. Gonna watch it tonight. As a Korean (born in Korea) I have an inherent fascination with all of this NK stuff.
Escape from Camp 14 was a fascinating read. The documentary here was also interesting in how it highlighted what I thought could be sources of opposition. Which may include people that have been influenced by outside media, or people who don't like the scrubbyness of Kim Jong Un. Although some North Koreans in the documentary have mentioned how many in the nation are not familiar with the idea of being disloyal to the government. So who knows if we'll ever see a legit rebellion or regime change. Kim Jong Un is trying his hardest in purging any potential opposition in his government.
