Fuck you, Rick Berman. Jonathan Frakes wants to direct Star Trek 3

Insurrection was bad but still better than Into Darkness imo so I'd welcome him.

But the way things are going, I'd be surprised if there's a Trek film that'd be as good as First Contact within my lifetime.

SG-1 avatar + criticizes DS9 = Not my friend no siree bob.

Anyway, Frakes is washed up, of course he'd love to get his hands on a big budget Hollywood blockbuster. Realistically if he wants to regain some relevance he should probably ask Wil Wheaton to score him a Big Bang Theory cameo or something.

Frakes has grown into a pretty good director over the years, but I'm still voting Edgar Wright, because Wright has the clout and talent to refuse to direct Orci's shitty screenplay if it's as terrible as every single other thing Orci's ever written. Frakes would probably have to just accept whatever he's given.

DS9 and Voyager poisoned the body, Enterprise and Nemesis delivered the killing blow.

RDM is a hack who consistently writes himself into a corner and pulls gods out of his ass to save himself.

Give him a single episode to write and he'll do great. But he can't run a show for more than a few seasons before it all goes to hell.

The only good parts of DS9 were the explorations of Klingon culture.

Did we watch the same Deep Space Nine!?

You are insane if you think DS9 wasn't amazing trek.

DS9, specially post season 2 was amazing. Voyager had some real stinker episodes, but there were a lot of really good story arcs too.

I'd love to see Jonathan given a chance.

He certainly can't do worse than the idiot who did the reboot (though into darkness wasn't as terrible).

Both series had a few good episodes and some arcs I enjoyed (Blink of an Eye is one of my favorite Trek episodes for example), but overall they were mediocre at best. The last season of DS9 was a complete train wreck. It didn't feel like Star Trek anymore.

I can't even recall specific DS9 episode names because it left such a bad taste in my mouth.

On topic - I'd be okay with Frakes directing. Yeah Insurrection was kind of bad, but First Contact is one of the best Trek movies (and the only good TNG movie).

Slightly off topic. DS9 was amazing. Voyager was a great premise that was never utilized right. It felt like the show had 4 seasons of good writing that got stretched out to 7 seasons with a bunch of filler episodes. Voyager also has an absolutely awful final episode.

The fuck...

Pale moon light
Rock and shores
Duet
One little ship
Times children
Sons and Daughters
And the list goes on and on!

All magnificent stories without klingons.

But SG-1 was a decent if uninspired TNG-ish show for 4-5 seasons, and a tired suckfest for another 5-6 with two of the worst spinoffs of all time.

Well I mean in the context that they'll say First Contact is one of the best but ignore that he also directed one of the worst ones, too.

If you read Michael Pillars book about the writing of Insurrection. There was no director on earth who could have salvaged that film.

Seriously, they were already this close to getting Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) before Orci sabotaged that shit with his powermove.

Just call Cornish back. Get moving.

There's a book about it??

I'm googling but I can't find a title or anything. Link please?

I dont think anyone would dispute the TNG films were abysmal failures and a betrayal of everything fans liked about the show. But FC was the best one. It may be the shiniest turd in the box but its still a turd.

In a vacuum, it would be the best movie but as a fan of Star Trek, it really really sucked.

Berman and crew were the problem with the way Star Trek went. Frakes is a competent Director and he certainly knows the franchise so could do worse.

As long as Berman and crew are kept away as well as orci and shits we might get a decent movie

It's an unreleased book, the studio wouldn't allow it's release. But it's available for free online.

It's called Fade In. http://pineapples101.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/fade-in-mid-res.pdf

Warning: if you like Patrick Stewart he doesn't come across that well in it. He's not awful or anything like that but ultimately some of his ideas led to the mess.

It's a very interesting insight on how fucking impossible it is to write a big studio movie especially a franchise.

Insurrection was a boring - really boring - episode of TNG. Like, the kind you don't even bother keeping on as background noise while you do something else.

To be honest, I really enjoyed the JJ Abrams movies. I really think certain plot elements of Into Darkness were forced in by people above him, so I don't really fault him for that. I don't even know who else I'd want to direct it. Jon Favreau? He can probably squeeze some brilliant Kirk moments out of the movie.

Thank you for this. I'm looking forward to digging into it later.

This would be awesome, if and only if he makes everyone sit down Riker-style

seriously, this should have happened in every iteration since TNG.

First Contact is probably the best Star Trek movie, but his other stuff has been pretty awful. Not interested in seeing another movie by him.
