Episode three was great, loved the pacing as it got rid of the filler that was prevalent in both the first series and in the manga.

Rose's look in this episode definitely worked better for me than in the old series as Reole was never near the desert.

Humor was awesome, there were several great expressions and I loved the break-out scene.

Ending had more weight to it compared to the old series, mostly due to the expressions from Rose & Ed.

Bring on episode four!

seeing 1st anime, i didn't mind the breeze and different approach of this episode. I thought I have to endure 2 episodes of this story. It was a good episode

However, I didn't like what Rose said at the end about Phil-Stone. I preferred the original of her saying why did they have ruin this life they have (something like that)

Ep 04 is going to be great. Oh Nina...

Why the hell is the 2nd season re-treading previous episodes? I knew Ep 3 was too familiar and it's an exact re-telling of episode 1 in the first series, with a few alterations. Please tell me it isn't going to be like this for the entire series or was this expected? I must have missed that thread =/

Its not a second season. Its a reboot thats going to follow the manga very closely. If you haven't read the manga just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Yes, this was expected, no it won't be like this for the entire series because the anime and manga diverged greatly fairly early on.

Patience.

Ahh, that makes more sense. So this follows the manga more thoroughly.

I repeat from a previous post on this page:

The manga has 94 chapters so far. Based on the creator's previous comments, it looks like it'll be 24 or 25 volumes total (she has said she does not want the manga to go more than 100 chapters, but they may want to have the manga and anime end within a few weeks of each other. This will be done by either stretching out the manga releases, or, if they have 105 chapters, they could continue to release chapters by the month, and chapter 105 would be released a few weeks before the end of the anime). Chapters are serialized monthly, and are a meaty 40-50 pages long each.

Let's put it this way: The original anime splits completely from the manga around the halfway point of the anime. By completely, I mean completely. Events are different in the first anime and the manga from the start, but not to the degree that they can be considered completely separate stories. The divergence is around chapter 20 of the manga, around the
5th lab infiltration
. In other words, there are going to be about 70-80 chapters worth of material to cover afterwards, and they'll have to move at a fast pace to get through 100 chapter total in 51 episodes.

If you didn't watch the ep of the new series, the first ep was an anime-original story involving an ice alchemist named Isaac.

The break-out scene was the best thing about episode 3. :lol Hillarious.

Oh and I think the soundtrack gets better with each episode.

This episode felt more rushed than the previous two. Part of that might be my familiarity with the original series, which spend a couple episodes on this. I guess without the Ishbal flashbacks, you can run through the meat of the story pretty quickly. It felt full, but also a little too quick. I think it hurts the battles a bit, as the original series pulled off the Cornello fight much more dramatically. Good stuff regardless. This is going to be an amazing piece of work by the time it ends. Seriously, with this kind of pacing, this is going to be one of the most amazing pieces of anime ever put together. PEACE.

It probably felt rushed to you because they spent two episodes on visiting Cornello in Lior in the first anime.

Didn't like this episode as much but Lior always sucked so that's probably why. The music was awesome in this episode and some of the shot composition was great =)

Dialogue is flat and soulless.

I really expected more from this reboot :|

I agree. Ed's delivery was completely soulless during the gate/soul-binding sequence in episode 2. Unlike the guy who handled it in the first FMA anime. Now THAT guy had emotion in his delivery!

Not to mention his grating voice.

When Ed gives Rose the composition of an adult human and then seemlessly goes into the Icharus story it just feels way too rushed. I know they're trying to get past the boring bits as fast as possible but feh, it feels like they're just dictating.

You do realize that the voice is the same, and the dialogue is the same, right?

Nope, don't remember much of the original at all. I think my sarcasm detector was broken when I responded to your post. Yes the dialogue is more or less what was in the manga but the delivery could've been better.

Thank you sir.

I really enjoy how the series is coming along. I really enjoyed the original and I'm sure I will enjoy this.

I said wow
I was only exposed to the original this past fall, and it was in English--I know, a :O moment--but I'm happy with the acting in FMA: Brotherhood. At first Romi Paku's voice was a little grating, but only when Ed is supposed to be at his most impetuous and obnoxious, so it works perfectly. :lol

Besides being in the middle of the desert and having sand everywhere, right?

Like Branduil said, in the manga, it was never implied that Reole was near a desert as it was a fairly industrial-looking town. Middle of nowhere yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's by a desert.

Out of curiosity, was "Reole" ever used as a widely published / utilized transliteration of リオール? I've only ever known it as "Lior/e."

I've seen it used as both. I flip between the two, but I prefer Reole tbh.

Not that I'm aware of. Apparently it's named after a place in France though.

Fool!

Read the thread, I've been a strong promoter of the manga since forever!

I only see two episodes, though.

Really liked the first one. The outro is really nice.

I don't think the 3rd episode is on Funimation's site yet.

New episodes are posted at Funimation's site on Thursday's. Fansubs are posted on torrent trackers a couple of hours after they air in Japan.

There's no way I'd support fansubs for a show that is getting high quality official releases within a few days of the original airdate of the show, and for free, nonetheless.

there's no reason at all.

Is Funimation now doing IP checks on the episodes? They weren't before and so UK & Ireland watchers were able to see the first episode at least.

Well, then, Thursday it is.

I like the quality of the drawings and animation, lots of references to the manga that manga readers would get, and an excellent retelling.

I approve.

I tend to think Shinsen Subs were spot on according to "sources". Correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as Ep. 3 goes, my only very very minor complaint was:

Ed's reveal of his arm and leg. I thought in the original it was made much more dramatic. But then again, it was the first episode of its time.

As for the rest, fucking awesome. I look forward to Ep. 4. :D

I hope Ep. 4 isn't as depressing as it was in the original FMA anime, but then again, that made it a good episode...

I hope it delivers. :D

The problem is they already used the super dramatic shot in the first episode. You can only do it once.

This series doesn't get me as hooked as the previous. I feel kind of disconnected this time around.. here's to hoping I don't feel this way the entire series. I liked how immersed I was last series.

Masked Man

I said wow
I think it's just the pacing that makes for the "disconnect." It's much more rapid-fire, but it seems pretty faithful to the manga. Since Ep. 3 was the one pertaining to
Ch. 1 in the manga, more or less--the only one I've had time to read so far
, I felt that the pacing was pretty accurate. I think it will become much more engaging once they get to "new" material that diverges from the first series.

Which isn't to say that I don't find it engaging--I'm really pleased thus far. :D
