Finally saw the new OP. Not actiony enough for the finale and I thought the song was boring. The visuals were nice but I'd say it's the weakest opening. I mean the series has consistently had amazing openings, 2 of which have become some of my favorites. This one is still good but not on par with the rest I would say.

After finally seeing a HQ version of the 5th OP, I can say that though it's not actiony or fast-paced, I really love it.

Considering all the things that are happening now in the manga, a slower-paced (yet spoilerific) OP is a good contrast to the fast-paced action. It's definitely more of a reflective, pensive piece that's growing leaps and bounds on me.

As for the 5th ED, just need a HQ version and need to let it grow on me more as well. It's still leagues better than the 3rd ED (God that song sucked).

5th OP was excellent. Very much like Rewrite, but slower and more reflective.
Only thing I'm a little iffy about is how much they try to fit in. Too many characters and things going on. Should have focused it this time, they already showcased the entire cast in previous ones.

So, has the manga ended yet?

Not yet. Chapter 106 should be out next week.

I think the amount of characters shown in the 5th OP is fitting, as all of them have shown up once again in the recent chapters. It shows:
the five sacrifices, those closest to them, and the people within Amestris during the eclipse. Hell, it even showed the moment when Father activates 'Human Instrumentality' :p
.

I just watched the last opening and ending on YouTube. I was surprised by the amount of spoilers they put in them.

Are you talking about (MAJOR MANGA SPOILER)
Roy and his eyesight
?
Yep, exactly this. I absolutely fucking loved how they handled in this opening - once it happens it's so obvious, but until you actually see it you have no clue what it really means.
There are some other spoilers, but this is the one that I liked the most. I wonder though whether there is any meaning to Winry-shaped Truth or not.

Yea, I can get on board with that. I didn't even really consider how much more grand the scope was of this series as opposed to the first. Its definitly fitting, considering how things end up.

Perhaps Truth=Love as if truth defines the meaning of something, then perhaps love defines the meaning of someone?

But in any case, I'm just waiting for a satisfying ending to the series in print form before seeing the awesome animated shortly afterwards. :D

Ah man, any scene with Alex is win.

I loved the fact that he kept sparkling as he was talking to Olivier. :lol

I hope that scene with Kimblee is on the next episode.

Ahh, one of my favorite moments
(only second though to Yoki coming in with the truck
...which then leads to one of the creepiest moments
with Pride
during these chapters in the manga.

Kind of confused but if the manga isnt finished how are they ending Brotherhood? I thought it was supposed to stick to the manga pretty religiously unlike the first?

Maybe im just being stupid..

Because the manga will be finished by the time they reach there. The manga has a maximum of 3 chapters remaining.

The manga itself will be ending very soon. Once the manga is done (which most people are shooting for May or June at the latest), Brotherhood itself will end soon afterwards.

Arakawa probably told them how it's going to end.

Probably a safe bet. With 3 issues to go she (?) has probably finished writing the story and is just working out the final details of panel design. I'm sure they are working with a finished story at this point.

I just pre-ordered this on blu-ray. I was a huge fan of the original and hope I like this too.

Do we know how many episodes are on the bluray yet?

I'm assuming it will be at least 12-13.. but on itunes they sell the episodes for 3 dollars each and a season pass for 49 dollars.. which would lead me to believe there are either 1) a lot more than 13 episodes on that dic. or 2) they are hosing people who buy the season pass.

It is Funi, so #2 is possible, but I would think it might be closer to 20 episodes on a disc?

Amazon also lists 26 episodes to purhcase digitially and calls that "season 1". That would be fantastic.. but I just don't see Funi giving away half of a brand new series in HD for 40 dollars.

edit: the box says episodes 1-13 so I guess that is our answer. That sounds more like the Funi I know and love :lol

Amazon seems to be selling 26 episodes digitally for the same price as the DVD which gives you half as many episodes.. so confusing.

I never read the mange so seeing Brotherhood after the old anime is pretty jarring.

I've tried watching the original series after reading the manga and watching Brotherhood, but I can't do it. I can't watch it anymore.

I'm liking it also, although some of the scenes are a bit jarring with the added comedy. I assume it changes a bit as it gets into newer territory But I can't really get attached to this version of Hughes for instance.

Masked Man

I said wow
Episode 52 was AMAZING. The fight scenes were all incredibly well done, and the ending was one of the creepiest moments that I've seen in a while. D=

FMA:B ep. 9

- Oh Al...falling for the biggest trick in the book.

- Gotta love Hughes' quote about Ed bringing 'a nice blonde girl to service him' :lol

- I always loved the part with Al and the robot, was a nice touch

- And Hughes being the very definition of the overprotective father...

FMA:B ep. 52

- Fuck yes, Al's being awesome!

- And gotta love Marcoh and Heinkel, the latter being responsible for tearing out Kimblee's throat. :D

- Yoki FINALLY doing something helpful! :lol

- More action with the Armstrong siblings, gotta love the pair as they continued to squabble even while fighting Sloth

- Great use of the OP while Ed & Co. were fighting the zombie dolls

- Kimblee getting eaten by Pride...so much more creepier here than in the manga to me - I think it was FPV from Pride's teeth that did it

- May's fight with Envy and then her reaction to the zombies was another humorous moment to me. :p

- Roy's FUCKAWESOME entrance at the very end. :D

So much awesome action in this episode... And then the screens from next week's ep - Fuck yes, I've so been looking forward to this being animated for a while now. Will be absolutely epic.

That must have been it--I agree entirely. D= (I'm going to have nightmares...)
Watching that also made Chapter 106 all the more satisfying.

Also, next week. <3

Such a painfully stupid, naive story filled with stupid, naive characters. Ed, in particular, is unbearable on every level, breaking down and shaking his eyes in disbelief at about a thousand revelations by now, holding a ridiculous philosophy that only works because the dreadful writing allows for it.

Why try political worldbuilding when the entire flow of the plot is based on deus ex machinas? Why try to emphasize the stakes of what's taking place when everyone has full plate plot armor +5 on? It's totally pointless to try to construct a believable setting with a big ensemble cast when nothing is believable in the least and almost everyone's a painful caricature. Just about the only decent character is Hohenheim, and his screen time has been minimal across most of the series.

I think I've chuckled once at the 50 episodes of awful attempts at humor: when Al got the clappy alchemy ability and Ed drew a mental scale of his worth compared to his brother's. It mainly just drags things down even further.

I'm very surprised that I've grown to dislike the series so much. I'm so disconnected from any emotional response to the story and characters that the generally expensive fight sequences do absolutely nothing for me now, completely lacking tension.

I'll see the series through to its conclusion, since I'm so far in already, but if this is the manga story then I can only surmise that the manga is tripe.

Ep 9

I kinda thought this episode would have been better if it was a little bit more serious. they should really tone down the "goofy style" during the serious moments. but the funny moments were great. Winry servicing Ed, seducing his mechanic were great as was the threats Hugh made to the kids. and when Alicia told Winry her age was very cute.

I guess Ed and Hugh's daughter don't have the same birthday in the manga?

Nine episodes into Brotherhood, and so far this series is hugely inferior to the original. Hopefully it gets into the new material soon, because so far it has just been a rehash of the previous series but not nearly as well executed.

I thought so as well...but the series picks up somewhere around episode 13, I believe. I decided to wait until it has finished, so I havent gotten too far, though.

Yeah, that's one thing I started noticing during the Liore episode.

"The evil pope is trying to murder them, why are they suddenly doing slapstick?"

Yeah. I couldn't stand the "humour" in the earlier episode. I hate most Japanese humour. It just doesn't translate well. Thankfully it seems a lot more toned down in recent episodes.

I don't think I've had any problem with the humor. The only thing really annoyed me was the whole black/white Yoki story that lasted too long.

EP 52 was awesome but I thought they didn't do the
Kimblee execution
justice at all. The manga had some crazy suspense in that part which I thought the anime lacked. Otherwise, I thought this was a great episode.

Ah man, next week next week next week next week..
