Well so far everyone seems to be enacting a new rule of spoiler tagging everything not shown in the dub, so this could work out afterall. I doubt the series could sustain two cocurrent threads though.

EDIT: Dammit Pimpwerx

yeah, but then what the fuck am I supposed to do?

I've not read the Manga.. and the spoilers have been used for manga stuff up until this point.

Basically anyone who has not read the manga but is watching the subs would have to exit the thread for fear of either

1) spoiling dub only watchers.
2) being spoiled by manga readers.

seems kind of shit since I've been in the thread for pushing a year.

The only solution I can see is for either a new thread to be made for people following the dub (best solution imo), or for people to label their spoilers a lot more explicitely from now on:

ie:

Dub, sub, or manga, and including the episode #/chapter before the tagged information.

Or, people watching the dub just suck it up for being doubly late to the FMA party :p

What's the rule going forward about posting on FMA episodes?

AFAIK, we browbeat the fans of the original series to stop whining about spoiler tagging that. It's been on tv at least a friggin' decade, so I thought that argument was moot. Am I now to believe that spoilertags are needed for the dub fans of FMA:B?

I'll make my argument and then let the mods (duckroll?) clarify. This series is 45 episodes in after today. There is already unspoilered discussion of 42(?) more episodes of this series in this thread than there are spoilered ones. I understand tagging the manga discussion, because we already have a thread where we can talk about that (and have people bitch even then...but I digress). But if we're gonna spoiler tag new episodes of the JP release (which is on episode 45 now), fuck this thread.

This thread existed for a year before Adult Swim got their shit together to get the show. It was a nice discussion of the pacing comparisons early, and it's a nice discussion of the faithfulness to the manga now. But there's no way I'm dealing with tags now, just because I was an early reader of the thread. Sorry dubbers, but that's just bullshit. We don't need two threads, you guys just need to look back through the thread.

That's my POV. We always have the manga thread, if this thread is gonna cater to the dub fans. PEACE.

Yes, yes it was.

Fun fact, the voice actresses for Ed and Al voiced Mama Armstrong and Cathrine Elle Armstrong, respectively, in this episode :p

pimpwerx does have a good point. This thread already has 16+ pages of spoilers for people who just started watching the dub. Even if we start spoiler tagging that stuff now there is nothing to stop someone from popping on an old page and spoiling the story.

Hopefully duckroll can weigh in on this, but I think the dub only guys are SOL. Besides, it's not as though there is anything stopping them from going to Funi's site and watching all the episodes to get caught up.

Yeah, it's one of those things where "Well, you're late to the party and posting in the official thread. Proceed with caution."

Okay, I see there's some issue with spoilers now that Adult Swim is starting to show the series dubbed. The problem is that this series has been available LEGALLY in English to the same audience who would be able to watch Adult Swim, for almost a year now. There is an ongoing discussion as the series is still airing in Japan and all the places around the world which gets the same-week telecast/web stream. It's unfair that the rules would suddenly chance because of a dub airing on Adult Swim.

I feel in a case like this, it this no different from how the rules would be applied if a home video release for a movie or TV series is out - you either read and post in the thread after you're caught up, or you make a new thread about it catered specifically to people who are only following the new format of release. So yeah, I'm sorry dubbies, if you guys want someone should start a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood on Adult Swim thread, and keep that one going as it airs. If you run into problems with people spoiling it there, let me know and I'll take care of it.

Ep. 45. Wow. And we have 7 more to go? Right?
Nope. There is simply no way that they could cover what's left in 7 episodes. Current estimates are either 63, or 65 episodes. Prepare for awesomness.

I actually do have a question.. this show is going to have put out around 65 episodes in what seems like 70 or so weeks once all is said and done.

How is that even possible? An animated show in the US would have put out less than half that many episodes in that time frame.

Do they start making these things far in advance of the first episodes release or are they actually able to put an episode together in one weeks time?

They have several different teams working on the episodes, which is why some episodes 'look' better than others.

So one team will work on x eps, another team y eps, and so forth.

Also, I'm sure being adapted from a manga helps since they can use the manga basically for storyboarding.

Although, people are saying that they've thrown the manga out the window at some points. :lol

Not completely, but more like they cut out stuff (either important or filler), re-arranged things, or didn't bother. It's mostly apparent in the first 'season' of Brotherhood, but there are a few episodes later that get the same treatment.

Other than that, they do stick pretty close to the manga for the most part.

What Auron said, and yeah, they have a lot of episodes made by the time the shows start usually.

I believe with 4 or 5 season series like FMA, they usually have at least half of the series done (maybe very very minor splicing for some of the episodes to do) by the time it starts airing.

In fact, I think I recall hearing that they had about 20 episodes done when Brotherhood was first announced.

I missed the first dubbed episode, but caught the second one on the DVR and watched it last night. I enjoyed it verily, though I desperately miss Al's voice :( I understand why he couldn't reprise his role, but... sigh.

Also: why isn't Ed giving the alchemy speech at the beginning of the episodes? D: That's weird.

Sorry if anyone did make a specific dub thread, I didn't find it.

The reason why Ed is not giving the speech (actually Al gave the speech on alchemy later I believe) like in the first series is that it's not really needed. Episode two of Brotherhood already discusses the implication of alchemy at the beginning of the episode.

They actually used that beginning speech on alchemy for a few of the episodes of Brotherhood (I believe they stop after episode five), so it's probably best not to get too attached.

Also, all discussion for FMA: B (subbed or dubbed) is this thread I believe.

There aren't many people watching the show on Adult Swim. Last night, they had bumpers with ratings for the 13th and 14th. Brotherhood had 343,000 viewers and was second place that night behind The Boondocks. Boondocks had over 390,000 viewers. For Sunday the 14th, even the lowest rated show, a Family Guy rerun, had over 900,000 viewers. :/

Adultswim gave up on Saturday night, no way it is going to reach 600,000 like the original did. Between the lack of new anime, the re runs of there lesser rating shows before it, and reruns of crappy anime(2 hours of Bleach) they will not pull in good numbers. Also, you can watch it for free online at there site so that also affects ratings. And 900,000 is actually bad for them on Sunday night, those FG reruns usually pull in over a mil.

Yeah 2 hours of Bleach petty much killed Saturday, which is sad since it's also the only night they air anime anymore...

Hope you love seeing stoner comedy based on rapid fire non-sequitors.

I still miss the days when Adult Swim showed anime throughout the week. They would often show such a wide variety of shows. But now that it's being relegated to Saturday night, as well as there being various other ways of watching the show, it's not surprising about the ratings which is a shame, since the show's really good.

Just caught episode 45. That was pretty cool.

I just randomly started watching this show a few weeks back. I didn't really like the first series, and I'm not too huge on anime, but I quite enjoy this one.

Liked Episode 45.. feels like a nice set up for things to come.

I especially loved the network of rebels at the end.. really putting all the pieces in place for the finale it feels like... though with 20+ episodes to go it is going to be a slow build.

Yeah, back in the day they would run a few hours of comedy and then switch to anime on the weeknights. I liked it because it was a good way to catch an old show quickly.

They basically gave up on anime almost completely. I'm kind of surprised they bought brotherhood to be honest.

Of course back then it felt like half the anime they showed was for Inuyasha.

Uhh...for one, the two hours of Bleach only stated two weeks ago, and those ratings numbers are exactly in line with what Saturdays ALWAYS do. And Bleach had, until Fullmetal beat it last week, been routinely and consistently the top ranked anime on the block, even in repeats (not counting the week before last where some fluke managed to put Cowboy Bebop in the top spot somehow :lol ).

And that was a weekend that had:

The Winter Olympics
The biggest February weekend box office ever (and, naturally, best President's Day Weekend ever)
Valentine's Day

Saturdays only occasionally ever hit the 400ks, and only on the most extreme occasions do they ever hit the 500s. It has been this way since the first FMA series went on its mid-point hiatus back in summer 2005. We're talking about 5 years now where Saturday's top numbers are in the 300-400ks while Sunday's are well exceeding 1 million.

For a debut with only one week of promotion and some of the worst external circumstances possible for trying to launch any television series, Brotherhood's ratings on Adult Swim are very good, especially compared to what they're usually looking for out of an anime's performance.

But the anime protoplasm watching Bleach is not the same sophisticated audience that will actually watch the good stuff...

Perhaps, but in the case of Brotherhood, which has been on for nearly a year - the potential audience that should be watching this show already has thanks to not only fansubs but by Funimation themselves.

It doesn't help that Funi/AS aren't showing it in HD.

I *might* be bothered to rewatch it in HD, but it looks better on my laptop than it does my Kuro the way they are broadcasting it.

Interesting. Put the next episode preview before the ending credits. Nina next week:/

I really enjoyed the animation in the third episode, although they might've gone overboard on the side-by-sides. New direction for Rose also, kinda jarring considering the old anime, but everything's new it seems.

Ep. 46 - so good as it's getting ready for the final arc.

- Ed & Winry interaction, at least they kept the awkward moment of Winry changing while Ed's in the room

- Gotta love Greed's motivations: I wanna rule it all!

- Kept the part with showing that Ed's FINALLY taller than Winry :p

- Seeing the East/North troops getting ready for the 'exercises', very cool though Miles always looks weird without his Briggs jacket to me.

- Al...the 'attack' from Gluttony only to be taken prisoner by Pride

- Scar & co. meeting up with the other Ishvalans :)

- Roy and Olivier moment, it's the flowers that makes the scene :lol

- 'Boom' goes Bradley's train due to sheeps crossing :p, though the fact that they cut out the people who were responsible for the attack from ep. 30, their significance will be lost to non-manga readers

- Seeing Riza, Fuery, and Breda suiting up = awesome!

- last part with Father appearing with the brass...creepy.

I absolutely love this arc as it's great seeing all of the characters again as the shit's ready to hit. Now I'm getting anxious for ep. 47... :)

Just a simple yes/no will suffice as I don't want to get spoiled with the specifics, but I'm on does Mustang get a larger role anytime soon? I'm on Episode 45 and feel like he has been kind of ignored.

Just got to the part where
Maes died
:''( Cried last time i saw it in the original anime, still felt a twinge of sadness this time around.. He was one of my favorite characters, and his
daughter's
reaction was depressing. Ah well, onto the next episode.

This episode was the biggest tease ever. :lol Though you can't have something big happen without a setup I guess. Next episode looks downright amazing.

So I wasn't imagining this? Both him and Winry seemed older to me. I know they said it's spring now, but what was it before? Winter? Whatever it was, it's been less than a year. That's not enough time for people of this age to have obvious physical changes.

I loved the setup at the end. Was really well done. And yeah, I just went back to the beginning to check it. I think I fast forwarded through it by mistake.

Puberty!

I'm excited for the run up to the end. I'm really resisting the urge to look up manga spoilers now.

Oh God, next weeks episode will be an even bigger tease because one of my favorite FMA moments ever will happen towards the end. Very awesome episode, I had a big ass smile on my face towards the end.

I'm stoked for ep 48 already :lol
