FurryGAF |OT| They should have sent a veterinarian

For the artists in training:

Found a new figure drawing site that lets you specify“class length” and it even gives you breaks. http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/

I tried the 1 hour class, which includes:

- 10 poses, 30 seconds each.
- 4 poses, 1 minute each.
- 2 poses, 5 minutes and 45 seconds each.
- 1 pose, 11 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Short break (15 minutes, stretch, get water, etc)
- 1 pose, 30 minutes.

You can see the results here, where I talk about the class structure a bit.: http://minotaurus-rex.tumblr.com/post/127482779834/todays-practice-15-minute-warmup-of-the-usual

hello lovelies, i'm not much of a furry, more of a casual observer than a way of life, but i wanted to join you all now that i have an account anyhow!

Welcome to the fuzzy corner of Neogaf :3

Hehe! And a bit scaly too.

Either way, feel free to just...um...talk here? And maybe in some other kind of chat we do have too.

I wonder if there are people that want it enough that they'll gladly be guinea pigs for something that actually lets them be whatever they want physically.

do y'all ever peruse around threads and start to wonder where the cutoff point for acceptable discrimination is? i figure furries are still okay to talk shit about, bronies seem even more acceptable to be dismissive of, im thinking of creating some sort of hierarchy. do you think people who believe in ghosts, conspiracy theorists or furries are easier targets on GAF to go after without getting banned?

this is mostly in jest because its not like im offended, its just funny sometimes how people can go pretty far in their pursuit of calling someone a trash human being without getting banned depending on the subject

For all GAF likes to think of itself as a progressive, liberal place - it still has a massive grouping of people who are highly socially conservative. When the same-sex marriage thing came down, sure, a lot of people were outspoken in support - but those that weren't, were quick to shut up because they knew they'd get banned for saying how against it they are.

Things like furries aren't as much 'fair game' as they used to be, it's now all about the bronies since they're a much easier, and newer, target. Notice nobody talks much about how they hate goths anymore, it shifted to the projection of hipsters, and even that has faded somewhat. I'm not sure what's replaced hipsters as the 'new thing to punch down at', don't really care to find out either.

There will come a time when punching down at the perceived stereotype of bronies will be bannable on GAF, just not yet. Too many people currently get off on taking the 4chan projection of bronies as the "real thing", and using that as justification to be mean, bullies, or just idiots about it all.

Sure, every culture subgroup has its troubles, Trekkies, Gamers (for crying out loud), Comic Book Guy like figures, etc, so on. I find it best to just let it be. Besides, there is great irony in a bunch of guys on a *gaming forum* talking about how "dumb and nerdy and fat and smelly" bronies can be.

A lot of people are highly conditional in their empathy for others. Rather than having developed and internalized an awareness of other people's fundamental humanity, regardless of what surface attributes people display. They still look mainly to mainstream societal guidelines to tell them who they have to treat with a basic measure of consideration. And for what specific reason within a limited context.

Generally those without general compassion for others will fall back on citing that what clothing someone wears isn't anywhere near the importance of, say, their skin color, so naturally it is fair game to inform they are worthless human beings because you don't like their hat. Or what cartoons they watch, or what video games they play.

I tend to think all the progressive causes for "big things" are ultimately a bit futile if we end up with a society where everybody is an asshole to everyone else about all things except for a tiny handful of protected attributes. Even if those attributes are critically important. Failure to see the value in general respect betrays a lack of understanding that others - even those you don't like - are persons, like you. With their own complex inner life and a history which has led them to presenting the visible appearance you see now, which you may or may not immediately understand.

Without this consideration for the reality of others, topics can't be discussed without just devolving into personal attacks and insults for individuals. There are really comparatively few times it's actually worth asserting someone is a bad person because of X thing they do, like, participate in, or identify with.

The Brony thread has me rolling my eyes. Some people have a very thick head, you can't talk sense into them.

Anyway, onto some art I just found while browsing the web.

Simple style but I dig it.

nice picture. and yeah the brony thread is kind of hilarious in how shitty people are, if you can glean joy from such things!

personally some of my favorite internet drama is when furries lash against bronies in a subculture war, its like console wars but not about consumerism, just plain old every day emotional craziness

Also Kelly would not side with basic furs like that. He would back the Hardworking Artists and not expect handouts like Today's Messed-Up Youth would.

A bad parody cartoon.

If the cartoonist is using actual Kelly satire, then the "honest furry" is the one really being mocked - for expecting talented illustrators to make whatever random fans demand, for free.

But I've seen enough people fail to grasp Kelly is a character, and think his toons are played straight. So this cartoon might honestly accuse artists of being greedy for thinking their work is worth something.

There have been plenty of creep-tier fans in the community who bitch about people daring to charge for work. Yet somehow the art is valuable enough for them to desire it in the first place.

As someone whose circle of friends includes several furry artists and suit makers, it's surprisingly common for people to expect cheap/free stuff. They even get upset if you turn them down sometimes. Not about that shit.

I know its not serious, I love the Kelly cartoons. Just been waiting for an opportunity to use my kelly.png for 3 years now lol

anyone who asks for something you make money on for free i automatically assume is a jerk undeserving of my time unless they frontload it with groveling. then they are just desperate! not that it helps, but at least humility is a positive trait

I suppose there is a certain exchange of social capital with a good, solid groveling.

How many grovels does a tractor go for these days?

The "trinity" of fandom dragons that I see fanart of

With that said WarGreymon is more common than Greymon. And in hindsight while I am a huge fan of Shoutmon (easily my favorite Digimon) I don't think seeing him buff fits him lol

You could trade something else for artist services rendered, like the first bushel of your potato crop for this year, or 3 fresh buckets of milk from your prized cow.

If they're really good, you'd have to step it up to the hand of your first child in marriage, but in that case you'd better get a 10 page comic out of that at least

Oh my, all this muscly dragons... I think I'm gonna... Love them!

Yeah, I think boss doggie is rubbing some of that buff love on me at this point...

buff dragons are rare, usually it's either chubby or musclegut, or lithe or lean

with that said I'm more of a WarGreymon dude, the digimon who sported ass shots before the female digimon did it, and Japan loves their muscular dragonman ass for some odd reason

"buff dragons are rare" is something I never thought I'd see someone say, in a million years.

But sure, there are 'trends' to these things, and it all depends on where you look at art, but historically in my experience, 99999% of dragons in the fandom (or art made of dragons) are super buff. At least half of those, ridiculously hyper.

Though I'd agree, recently it seems there's been an uptick in alternates, like chub and lean.

the usual place I see buff dragons are kemoart, and even then it's a tie between chubby or buff, furries I tend to see more lean builds

the most of the buff in furries I see tend to be based on existing characters/species, hilariously enough

Then again, perhaps the fact that I mostly see furry porn, might have something to do with it. In that, the dragons are usually buff, with the rare svelt one.

Narse/Tojo being among the more slim type

The vast majority of dragon art probably fits the streamlined description, I think. I mean, what else would medieval/high fantasy have to fall back on? Griffins?

... hmm

I don't have a Skype but I could make one. What do you guys do in the Skype group?

since i joined this morning it has just been a constant wellspring of hot, sweaty orgy sex. they welcome you by having everyone run train on you

so far we have talked about khajiits and muscles and linked pictures

These guys' muscles remind me of Panda Express's orange chicken.

what's that

... hmm

griffs are probably big in furries too (they have griffin month)

with that said they kinda made avians sorta rare :(

Great avatar; Awkward Zombie's Fox and Falco are great.

She does make great Fox, much better than Nintendo's anyway. Her Falco could still use some work though.

Heh...forgot about this guy, but after I saw it I felt I should pop by for Boss Doggie.

I play Culdcept Saga on the 360. One helluva amazing mixture of Magic the Gathering and Monopoly (no shit...this title is big in Japan and music from it is even in Smash Bros).
Anyhow I was playing and I found Ookami Kun in the game as an opponent lol.
